Rather than make changes below and have new stuff get lost amongst the really old clearance prices, I'm just making a new list up top but keeping the old list below. Who knows, you might still find something tagged with the prices in the older list so it's worth keeping around. Most of the current list is here thanks to kaydigi.

OK, here's the latest Kmart clearance thread.

Three important notes (please read these before posting questions):

1) Most of the prices listed below will not be shown on the games at any given Kmart. Chances are if you can find them they will ring up at one of the clearance prices listed. The best way to check it is to bring a UPC sheet with you and use the floor scanners to verify the pricing before you ask the Kmart associate to open the case.

2) Kmart price drops are generally national in scope. However, each store must process the price drops individually. While the price drops originate from corporate, different stores have wildly different ways of dealing with them. Some will implement them immediately, some weeks later, and some, it seems, never. Also, there are occasional glitches in the pricing where a game that is otherwise on clearance will ring up at full price at certain stores.

3) These prices will not show up on the kmart.com web site. Don't even bother.

Old list:
Explanation of pricing list

OK, on to the prices...

The wonderful thing about Kmart is that they combine dirt-cheap clearance pricing with a general lack of organization. Thus CAGs in the know, hopefully using info from this thread, can find some amazing deals.

First off, here's the UPC database list as created by Slash and updated by MightySlacker: chttp://kmart.slashbunny.com/. Use this to verify pricing in your local Kmart.

The prices are organized alphabetically and by system (thanks again to ShiningSlade for starting it off this way).

Since the exact pricing is so YMMV, and many games ring up at 2 or 3 different clearance prices I will list all of these separated by slashes, with the cheapest first. For example: Psychonauts $3/$14/$24. I am also adding a bit to the color coding - see below:

Color Scheme
New additions verified by CAGs
New additions reported by one member (needs verification)
90% off games (the lowest they will go before they drop out)
* - Denotes original Xbox games playable on the Xbox 360
(spoiler tag messes up colors so just ignore all this ;)).

and finally...
That's the truth. Seems like 75% of the time I go into one the electronics/appliances employees are mostly huddled together by the washing machines talking to each other. Then, me being the PITA I am, I go up and ask them to check a price or open the case for me.
Hah. More often than not when I go to Sears (the one store around here, anyway -- the others aren't quite so bad), there are a bunch of appliances employees huddled together talking to each other who claim to have no knowledge of the electronics department, and no one to be found in the electronics department itself. If one of those appliances employees is really feeling generous, he'll offer to page an electronics employee, who then won't bother to show up.

No.

That's cause there's no commissions on video games. Why interrupt a nice conversation for no commissions? This is actually Sears HR/finance/comp dept's fault.
SHC, you need to be on an episode of "Undercover Boss".

I don't think it is as hopless as some are making it out to be. Some employees just need to be retrained and there needs to be an overall attitude shift within these stores. Its something that you can't do by yourself and I hope you'll be touching base with the other departments during this process. Adding more employees isn't always the answer either. One or two really good ones can make a store hum.

I know the 2-3 employees that work in the my electronics department know nothing about electronics and even LESS about games. I just can't believe they can't find someone who is pasionate about gaming/HDTVs/movies to work in these departments or at lease find someone who is willing to sink there teeth into it and learn. I would never work in a car parts store because I know nothing about it and care even less. And probably wouldn't get hired to do it becauese of it.
To that point though; I definitely need to find a way to get content information to store level to educate our sales staff. Something like a SHC Gaming Weekly type communication that details launches and explains what they are selling. I can't expect everyone to love this category as much as I do.

Definitely not deaf bud; I hear everything being said here loud and clear. All I can do is promise that over the course of the next year I will put plans in place that hopefully address all of the issues that have been raised here.

No offense intended but unless you're the CEO of Sears, you're not gonna be able to put plans in place to fix the core customer problem.

This isn't a case of "well, the guy in electronics didn't know that God of War I & II are in one package" -- it's a case of "there is no one in electronics and when i found someone, he told me it was not his department. then someone else paged someone that a customer needed help in electronics. then 15 minutes later, no one showed up and I left."

One or two people bitching, you got random store problems. But I would venture that 95% of people in this thread have had that similar experience.

Excellent, I'll definitely be awaiting some of those :D

Though if you're the video gaming representative for the company, how are you able to affect the entire company directly?

Actually it was right next to Tiger Woods 09 in the case.

and I kind of like the midgets. They hide games and reward only the most dedicated.

we checked out our local Kmart last night. None of the games they had checked out on the clearance list. Had the guy grab the price gun and scanned a good amount.

dam guys give the REP some time to get the ball rolling, i mean i know there wont b dramatic changes overnight but at least SHC-Gamer can let the right people know about all these issues, rome wasnt built overnight

anyways, picked up PS3, Rockband Metal Track Pack, Red Faction Guerilla ($19.99 each)

suggestion - if u really want ur department (video games) to be more appealing, ummmm....make it appealing... the electronics section looks old and dull in every kmart near me, example, best buy, target, walmart, there electronics departments, are loud (not loud but loud enough to notice), put some signs up (example, new games - GOW, FF, etc etc), and most importantly, have someone working in electronics that knows something about electronics, (theres a 50+ yr old lady working in the electronics department) i think also price matching would bring more people into kmart
Also, I just updated the OP with Kay's last update from March 16th. I'm aware there may be a newer one from SHC though it is buried (well, Kay's was about 20 pages back ;)). I saw some whining a ways back about the OP not being updated since Dec. Well, that was wrong as I last updated it on Jan 20th. But really, besides missing some Ener-G and Petz games for the DS the list was pretty much what Kay had except a bunch of the $14.97 games dropped to $4.97. It was hardly anything that a decent CAG couldn't have figured out (look at the OP and check games that were likely to drop since Kay said a lot of $14.97 stuff went to $4.97). Anyway, now it is all there for people from other web sites to steal. Enjoy!
How much do you wanna bet that some of the same people whining about the OP not being updated will come back whining that all of the clearance games from their stores were bought up and now they can't find anything to buy?

People are never happy, no matter if you update from day one moment one or if you wait 2-3 weeks to do so.

But I've already picked up the games I wanted from my local Kmarts that had some of the ones I still wanted to grab, so if the other stuff disappears I might be a lil perturbed. But that's only cuz I was going to offer to grab some games for those CAG's who can't find them in their area.

A couple of my local stores have ample copies of XBlades, SvR 08 and 09 and Dark Sector for PS3, as well as some scattered copies of each for the 360 and some of the Wii games(Madworld, Pikmin).

Mind ya, I only ship Priority Mail flat rate envelope anymore though, so it'd be like $5.65 total with DC for shipping alone. I just hate waiting and watching shit bounce around various post offices for 1-2 weeks before getting delivered FINALLY.

Well, like I said, the list is pretty much the same but just some of the prices have gone down. So I imagine people who were using it before were pleasantly surprised that some of the $14.97 stuff is now $4.97. By the way, most of that stuff was long gone by me when it was $14.97. I'm not even bothering to look there this time. As far as I'm concerned, Kmart hasn't been a good place for clearance games in about a year or more.

I got everything I wanted off that list. 8 :360: games in all for myself and a couple for friends

there are still more out there at some of my kmarts

My closest store hasn't been a good place for clearance games, but the further ones I've been hitting(two about 20 miles from me, one about 5-10 miles from me)have been great.

The one clerk at the next closest store to me even remarked how there's three rows of Wii games in front of each other in the case.

I have to get back there before everything goes out of the system.

Who knows- if he does a really good job at cleaning up this department maybe CEO could be in his future. Theres nothing to say that emplementing his plans for Games couldn't be used in some way in other areas.

Oh I wish him luck. I used to love the blue light specials as a kid.

Now, if it weren't for this thread, I wouldn't be caught dead in a Kmart. It's too depressing.

I'd also pay price + shipping if anyone doesn't mind.

I think some of us should give feedback on what we want in a gamer's club maybe, can't hurt. I'd like to see a low fee $10-15 but preferably free, coupons that target all price spectrums so that it's not just money off a full priced $60 game, money off the cheapest, or money off bad games. Look at what Best Buy does on their reward website and try to do that but improve upon it and tailor it more to Kmart's inventory situation. For ex: BBY's program is free (you don't get a mag, but I prefer free with no mag) & they offer coupons for across the price range. You should be able to do everything online and get your coupons online.

Hey guys, long time member here. Haven't posted much (once or twice), but I felt I had to contribute when I read this thread and saw that there was a Sears Holding rep here. I worked at K-Mart for two summers (actually, I think I'm still on the payroll--listed as being away for college), located in the Indianapolis area. However, in only a short time as an employee I discovered plenty of concerns, many of which are echoed here by SHC-Gamer and thehoweller.

A lot of the problems listed, at least in my store, were due to a few main reasons: communication problems, lack of education for employees, and a general tone of apathy by everyone but the managers. Also, there is the ongoing problem of disorganization in the game area. Understand that my K-Mart store was supposedly (according to the managers) the best in our district, one of the cleanest, and the first in the nation to undergo testing for an entirely new store layout.

As far as communication within the store, one thing to realize is that communication between employees is difficult and sometimes impossible. I definitely know and appreciate the complaints of employees passing off responsibility to someone else. Unfortunately, the store-wide intercom is highly ineffective. The speaker in the receiving area can only be heard from certain areas, and not at all if the baler is running. Often times, an employee will page someone but only say who they need once and then hang up, so one isn't sure if he/she was actually paged or not--and there's no way of knowing who just paged. So when a customer wants a game out of the case, the only person with the key (who might be helping someone in furniture, auto, or the housewares, as I was often asked to do) might not hear if he/she is paged. It's a problem that could seemingly (yet probably expensively) be solved with a walkie-talkie system, which would allow direct contact without the need of customers hearing sometimes comically awful mumbling over the intercom.

Employees within K-Mart receive virtually no education to work in electronics. Upon being hired, I was required to watch dozens of DVDs and VHS tapes in a small room by myself. I honestly don't remember if any of them concerned electronics, but I don't believe they did. The only practical training I had was learning how to open the game cases and how to unlock peg locks. Any knowledge I had of electronics and games was due to my own experience. The person who was "in charge" of electronics was a very nice senior woman who couldn't tell the difference between God of War and Pokemon. So when an employee seems ignorant, well they might be, but it's also because they've been asked to work in a department in which they have no formal training to work in.

As for the complaints of employees huddling around and doing nothing well, yes, that's a huge problem. But the problem seems to lie within the hiring process of the company. The turnover rate at my K-Mart is huge; there are new teenagers every week. It seems like they will hire anyone, and it's mostly high school kids. I'm a senior at Indiana University, so working there as a summer job, I was in the minority. The young kids would openly text message friends, yell across aisles, and sometimes even steal things (security at the store is an entirely different topic, and one which I would not dare detail here unless SHC-Gamer wanted to hear it in a PM or something, although it has since improved). At the other end of the spectrum is the "lifers". These are typically elderly women who struggle on the cash register, but cannot work in any other area. It seems there is a startling lack of young and middle-aged men working in the store (we had one, part-time), because I had to do any physical work that was required (including, for several weeks in my first summer, painting the majority of the interior of the store. Not what I expected when I was hired as a part-time worker).

Basically, what I'm trying to get across in this incredibly long rant that hardly anyone will read, is that there are core problems within the store that affect every department, including electronics and gaming. Yes, the game cases are a nightmare for customers and employees alike. Yes, there are a lot of games that never get marked down or scan differently than they are labeled. In my store there were literally marked-down games that were shoved so full on the shelf that they overflowed onto the floor in a corner which could not be seen by customers, and was only noticed by me because I was going through every game looking for deals. Problems such as these can only be fixed if the store as a whole goes through some massive changes. Management is optimistic, and things have changed for the better already, if only minutely; I could tell that even in my short tenure. But it's going to take time, just like SHC-Gamer has said. It is truly admirable that this guy is getting on these boards and trying to fix things one problem at a time. I know some of you wish the thread would just stay on track with deals, but in a company whose right hand seems to be working independently from the left on most days, it's good to know that there are people like SHC that are willing to at least attempt to make things better. Hopefully it will pay off in the long run!

Honestly, if it were going to be anything other than free, Kmart would need to have a much better selection of games than it does now. I was willing to pay for ECA for the Amazon discount because Amazon has just about everything that's in print available. I (grudgingly) paid for my GameStop Edge card because I was already going save half of the cost of it with the Edge discount on a purchase I was making in a B2G1 sale anyway, and I figured I'd at least make up the other half before the year was out since they frequently have rare/out-of-print titles used. You would really have to have a selection like those places to make paying for a membership worth it, though -- otherwise, I can find sales that match most discounts any membership would give me (case in point -- when I briefly had an FYE membership, I still found myself getting most of my games elsewhere for better prices than I would have gotten them for at FYE).

But Kmart? Honestly, I can't remember the last time that I actually bought a game there (well, other than that copy of NBA Ballers that I picked up for $1.97 at one point last year because I figured that any game was probably worth $2 -- boy was I wrong, at least until I flipped it for $5 later). I'm just not convinced that things are going to change completely enough to make paying for a membership worthwhile.

But yeah, I do have to say that Best Buy's (free) Reward Zone program gets me to shop there a good bit more than I probably would otherwise. Their program would be a good one to base a model on, if it's feasible.
It's a problem that could seemingly (yet probably expensively) be solved with a walkie-talkie system, which would allow direct contact without the need of customers hearing sometimes comically awful mumbling over the intercom.
At target we used to use a 2 channel but now a 4 channel walkie-talkie system. Basically channel 1 is quick convo's and alerts (like guest needs help in electronics), channel 2 is reserved for back room team members or where you would reach one if u needed them and channels 3 and 4 are for in depth convo's between employees. but i can tell you the walkie system definitely improve communication for your stores.
No kidding. What are the chances of walking into my local K-Mart and finding these games at the clearance prices. Is it really that simple?
Yep - the issue is finding someone that lets you go through the case. They're not supposed to. You're supposed to be able to use X-ray glasses to see through the new titles to see the games stacked behind them. I usually get them to open the case and then just push my way in and dig through the games. The young kids don't care that I pushed by them. The old ladies are afraid to say anything. What can I say? I'm kind of an a-hole.

Same at the home depot, but channel 4 is reserved for department heads and managers only. Us lowly employees on the floor only get one channel for the private convos.

Here's where the shortsightedness of Sears/Kmart comes into play.

You pay peanuts so the only people you can hire are teenagers who don't give a fuck. But they don't give a fuck so they suck at working. Then you constantly have to retrain new ones. Meanwhile, their atrocious work habits means no customers so now you have no revenue. Tough spiral to be in really.

This is why (other than the yummy goodness) that I'll pay extra for In n out vs Burger King any time. The teenagers at In N out, though possibly part of some weird christian cult, are the friendliest fast food workers I've ever seen.

This is absolutely true. Before minimum wage was raised, I was being paid $6.75 an hour, no benefits whatsoever. Hours were sporadic--one week I'd be working twelve hours, another week thirty-six. With no commission or any sort of incentive program besides the Sears Card program (we get money for each card applied for, but they have horrible interest rates so NOBODY wants them), there's little motivation to work, especially for teenagers who just want some spending money.
Same goes for the movie section, what a wreck. I've talked with the rep from the company who manages it, she told me that their company alphabetizes the wall...Yet 300 is after 10,000 B.C. Chronologically, the company has its beans in a row, however they're stupidly wrong. Unlike the game case, the movie wall should have no flex, all alphabetized (with newer/popular releases featured in alphabetical order) with the large portion, including most of the movie archive lined up.
Go to any store and this should be how it is arranged. bestbuy.com does the same thing (one site I checked really quickly to make sure I was right), and I would be surprised if somewhere was organized differently. If it is, they're wrong.

Think of numbers like letters. 0 is A, 1 is B, etc. So DAA (300) would be after BAAAA (10,000). What the value of the numbers is is irrelevant.

And SHC, thanks for listening, and hopefully for being able to do something about it. My complaints mirror what's already been said in this thread (horribly organized case and horribly overpriced old games), so I have nothing new to add.

Went last night and picked up Tiger Woods 09 for the PS3 and very easily obtained help from a CSR who used my UPC sheet to check whether they had star ocean in stock. They didn't, but the service I received was very good (and pleasant).
Wow, it looks like I have a lot of catching up to do. I had no idea we had this SHC guy here... Hey, I should dig up my game return story from last year. Basically, I tried to return some clearance games within the 90 day limit (as clearly stated on the receipt) and had the customer service rep argue with me that it didn't apply to Electronics and that the date was wrong because of that. They pointed to the text behind the counter and on the back of the receipt which clearly (to me) stated that the 30 days only applied to air conditioners and gas powered equipment. They took that to mean all Electronics and I had 3 Kmart employees ganging up on me and telling me that. Finally, after consulting with the store manager, they did it "as an exception". But what should have taken 2 minutes took 20 or more and left me infuriated. I was particularly appalled that the store manager didn't know policy and straighten her out. Then when I bought some more games in Electronics the lady, clearly watching me the whole time via video, called and had the clerk cross out the 90 days on my new receipt and write 30 days. I was so pissed I basically haven't gone back there much since then (well that, and the clearance stuff has sucked the last 6 months or so).

I wish we had a rep around then. I wrote to a Customer Service contact email I found on Kmart.com but of course never heard a thing back. Great CS there...
Some other comments:

Kmart here is definitely a wasteland, I mean its to the point where there are only a few customers in the store right after the ad comes out on Sunday, and for every other store here that is the busiest time to shop. Its clear that Kmart isn't doing much to bring in customers with their weekly ads. Before I couldn't find any ad items in stock, now they are all in stock (a very good thing) however, I only believe that is because the store gets next to no traffic. Go in there on a weeknight and you might find 10 customers in the store if you are lucky, although weeknights are traditionally slow in all stores in my area. It was not like this during the holidays though, Kmart was booming during that time just like every other store here. My suggestion for customers would be during next Xmas season to show the customers the best shopping experience ever so that they will come back during the year not just for holiday shopping when they cannot find what they are looking for at any other store.

The return policy does need to be made more clear. If your store has a return policy that basically states no receipt no returns no exceptions then it needs to be written that way on the sign, not in a language that beats around the bush. I can assure you that at my store location the no receipts no returns no exceptions policy is enforced to a tee. Get straight to the point, your company is clearly not accepting any non receipt returns at all without a receipt so that needs to be made very clear. There is one woman at my Kmart who is very helpful with returns however the rest of the "lifers" aka the older workers seem to act as if every return is coming out of their own paycheck. The return desk definitely needs an overhaul.

I understand that Kmart cannot afford to take non receipt returns in order to prevent fraud but I do believe this is hurting them especially when in my area Target and Walmart take returns without the receipt.

Target never takes returns without a receipt in my area (unless they can look it up on your cc). And I'm fine with it.

Too many scammers try to return shit without receipt. You don't want those customers anyway.
especially when in my area Target and Walmart take returns without the receipt.
I really doubt that.

I think target does under $40 and walmart does one return per year or something like that. I've never done it but I have heard that it does occur.
Great suggestions; I'll definitely pulse you all once I am able to confirm a tentative rollout with our "Shop Your Way Team."

I think free is the right way to go as well. Only way I would charge anything is if we had a magazine subscription tied with it. Is that worth it or should it be skipped?

Very informative, I don't know if I can affect this idea, but I will definitely forward it on.

The case organization is the issue I want to attack first; we will be providing new signing and organizational tools for the field team in late July (quickest I could get the reset).

Honestly, I think the magazine is just worthless. A little email newsletter is cheaper, and more likely to be read (if you include coupons in it).

This is a big deal in my opinion. Clearly you want to deter theft but as is the cases are deterring sales.
