Official Mario Strikers Charged! Discussion and FCs

I'll be picking this game up next week after trading Mario Party 8 to GS... it'll make this game only $7. Sadly, it seems I won't be in time for the tournament. That's just as well, though, since I'm terrible at Strikers.

w00t, I just beat the Crystal Cup without losing. :D Kicking ass and taking names up until the final, where it went sudden death. And pwned Diddy Kong in the second game to win series. :D

i was just trying as well and got killed by diddy

Tyber..if I could make suggestions...thats why I played you. You need to lob pass a lot more. Also make use of dekes. Put Birdo or Hammer Bros on your team...at least one of them so you have a shooter. Boo Toad and Koopa aren't shooters at all. Hope that helps. Good game. Look forward to playing you more in the future.

Boo is decent but shouldnt be with toad. You need one powerful player...like drybones as well.

EX logon I wanna see how we compare now. If you beat CC you should be better than me.

I'm sorry, but Koopa plays like a punk. Two Birdos launching eggs all day long and Waluigi walling himself up to pull off unmolested Mega Strikes.

Bad form. :bs:

Yeah, at least it takes a little skill to pull off the specials. I'm still quite terrible at it, but other people can use them quite effectively and get off 6 orange Mega Strikes on me.

Edit: And speaking of the specials, I fucking love the chant the crowd does when Wario has his queued up.

Ex me and you seem to have the best matches.

O comon. I wasnt going to shoot it with him. I dont abuse it. I think its part of the game, the ball was charged up all the way and I took advantage.

As deep as this game is ultimately there are a lot of things in the game that will keep happening oevr and over again. The key to being a good player is how to stop them. There is time to interrupt a character's charge shot. Honestly, complaining about it is just pointless, learn from it and don't let it keep happening.

Ugh, I'm sick of being mismatched. I'm rank 5000+ something, and the server is matching me up with people in the top 20. :bomb:

Botticus, I took the liberty of typing down the Mii names for the following CAGs for you:

bardiya27 (Bardiya)
hohez (Rob-Hohez)
mpj31 (Koopa)
retodd (ReTodd)
pastaeater (pasteater)

I'm not blaming you, but I can't believe he got wide open.

Played against a guy who was amazing at using his items to get off the mega smash shots with his captain.

He would always hit me with a shell or something right before I tackle him and then pull off 5 shots.

So has anyone here played on wifi in 2 vs 2 (you and someone else on the same wii)? How is it? Is there a specific ranking for this too?
the fire cup was surprisingly easy. no losses...total cup score of 86 to 2.
on to the next one.
dont get too cocky it gets hard in the crystal cup playoffs.

Yeah, I've gone undefeated in the Fire Cup a couple times now...and I suck. ;)

After taking loss, after loss......after loss online, in the Crystal Cup, and in a couple of the higher challenges, I feel it necessary to play the Fire Cup just to remind myself what it feels like to actually win a game.

Sorry for being a snot earlier, mpj. The Waluigi thing was actually pretty impressive....Just not so fun when you already feel overmatched and your opponent starts pulling off stunts like that. ;)

hah i beat crystal cup by getting up and just running with dry bones in the back court. Koopa couldnt catch up to me. The game wants to be cheap I'll do the same.

Interesting... Another day for me, another run at the Crystal cup. I got to the championship series against Diddy Kong and lost 2-1 and 4-3 or something in SD. Suckage - all the way back to the fucking beginning. Who thought that was a good idea? Damn...

I actually used a little bit of the keepaway strategy myself when I was up by 1 goal with 30 seconds or so left in a couple of games earlier. I went up on Diddy early and should have done that, but it would have been more like 2 minutes or so and I didn't want to chance a steal and quick score on his part. Of course, what happened was a miss be me followed by a quick score, and then a shuffling of the characters so he was left with Diddy and that stupid mole. Then any slight slip-up with your 2 chars and he gets off a megastrike. I actually blocked 3 out of 4 so it wasn't too bad, but then I was playing catch-up. Next time I play keepaway if I get the chance.

While this cup looked flat-out impossible at first, I know now that I can beat it if I just keep at it. This time I restarted the Fire Cup so I could have Luigi (just 'cause) and pair him up with a couple of toads and a hammer bro. I use the toads and Luigi for quick passing to charge up shots and take several toad jump attempts for goals. I got all kinds of goals in the Fire cup since I could megastrike a lot, and used the rest of the time practicing toad jumps. In case anyone blazed through the Fire Cup the first time they played the game (as I did) and didn't snag both trophies, you should do it again. I got the Wasteland field unlocked by getting both the brick wall and golden shoe awards (fewest goals allowed and most goals scored). That should be pretty easy for most of you at this point. I just figured many didn't know that as they probably played that one day 1 and haven't gotten back to it. The first time I played I got the brick wall but not the golden shoe.

Then on to the hard part, the Crystal cup - I would usually end up with 1 or 2 toad jump goals, and maybe a hammer bros skill shot goal and/or a megastrike or regular goal. That got me wins in most of the qualifying games. My achilles heel was damn Daisy and her lightning speed. I lost 2 qualifiers to her and then had to face her in the last elimination round. I finally beat her by going up 2 goals and then playing keepaway - the key thing being I didn't let her fire off all the megastrikes she did earlier. It seems like she can get them off WAY too quickly, so I just made sure to have the character I controlled shadow her whenever possible. Diddy Kong is pretty fast, too. Had I just played keepaway when he and Luigi were knocked out and I had my toads to run around with I would have won that one game at least.

Oh well, I'll give it another shot tomorrow.

And isn't there ANOTHER cup after the Crystal? Has anyone even tried that one? Does the difficulty take the same jump as from Fire->Crystal? If so, screw that .

I did it yesterday. I found it confusing because of the 4 people playing. You never know who your passing it to (you or your guest) so when you try to do a combo you never do it correct. Also, for some reason it seemed to lag more than usual - even though I had a 4 star connection.

Got online for the first time two nights ago - it was fun and a lag free experience at four stars and I was able to get around a couple of hammer bros. spams to win it 2-1.

I've added every one on the OP - please add me! So far, the only ones I can tell that added me back are:

Exstrike (Exstrike)
Courageous (Johnathon)
Bardiya27 (Bardiya)
Snipegod (DannyBoy)

Thanks!

Man do I feel you on that one! I'm afraid to even go online anymore lol I always get paired with the mega top players and allllwayyyyssss looooseeeee. There should be separate rooms for beginners, experts, etc or just freaking casual for people who just want to play

Same here! I finally got paired with someone who I had a chance with. Beat them once but lost the series :( Oh well, now I have 1 win and 9 losses :p

i wish that all these games would have the tetris ds online system. you were given a rating. and you'd be matched up with folks with similar ratings. and your rating wasn't just a measure of your win loss ratio. it took into account how good or bad your opponents were.
and also it was only based on your last 30 or 40 games so you were never afraid of ruining your score because you could fix it in no time.

io there is the strikers cup. I havent even attempted that one yet.

May I mention too that when I played Diddy Kong I got two or three megastrikes with walugi....around 4 balls each and right on the red. They never went in.

Well, I'll be getting this game today. Probably won't sign up for the tourney, but I'll probably play some of you online sometime, if only to improve your ratios. :D

I'm honestly on the verge of selling this game. I don't want to sound like a whiner but seriously I honestly don't even have fun playing it anymore. I won the Fire Cup and haven't won a single game since online or vs the computer. I just don't think I was cut out for this game. I never was any good at sports games but I took a chance that this one would be different....gosh I'm the fat kid in gym in real life and online lol

My friend and I finally beat the crystal cup together by being cheap as all get out and one person having the captain and the other just bashing everyone to keep them safe to do mega strikes. I'm not looking forward to trying Striker cup, cause even being very cheap like that, it still took us 3 runs at the cup to win.

This looks like the best tournament for Strikers so far. Count me in for sure.

That's the only way I've played online so far. It's been fun , it's more up tempo and I think more fun because of the teamwork you have to do to win. I will playing solo for awhile, until my son get better or my nephew come over again.

That's an interesting strategy, and one I can do with my son. Maybe we'll try that this evening. He can be the bruiser and take everyone out. He ought to like that ;).

So, uh, what's everyones favorite captain/sidekick combination for online ranked play? I don't think I've seen it discussed much here.

..............................+ Hammer Bro./Birdo
I like Waluigi/Luigi...................................+ Drybones
..............................+ Drybones/Toad

I just got through the tutorial, and man, I already know I suck at this game. I had a hard enoguh time beating to final tutorial match.

It just seems that all of my shots are blocked, and I can never seem to pull of any kind of special move without getting tackled.

You should try passing in the air (Z+A) a few times, like 4 time in a row, then while its in the air, let go of Z and hold b, you should shoot right away, and if your lucky, the gollie will be confused and you will score!

if you wanna add me I'll play with ya. I suck too and friend vs friend isn't ranked.

I'll add you later tonight. I think I'll practice a bit in single-player before I go online.

It's not as easy as it sounds as sometimes guys come out of nowhere, but I think only once in some 30-odd games did the computer shutout a megastrike, so it's at least a mostly sure 1 goal, if not 2-5. I don't think we ever got 6.

It's also a pretty easy way to assure you get at least the golden foot if not the brick wall. One round we scored like 83 goals and let 9 in (10 wins in a row, then got eliminated by one cheap goal in the first elimination round--gosh I hate the way this is setup with no retrys available. It's such a time waster!)

Man, I discovered a game breaking glitch/tactic tonight which will guarantee a win every time - and it is simple. I don't even want to say what it is because I know people will use it.

I'm sure others have found it as well but I haven't seen anyone doing it yet (besides me to test the theory). If it becomes widespread the game will be completely broken online.

It'll only be a matter of time, lebowsky.

My FC is as follows:

184790 722221

If anyone is up for playing a newbie, I'm game. Only did 2 Fire Cup matches.

I checked around and apparently it is already known. I give it about a week before everyone is doing it. I wonder if Nintendo can fix glitches like this? The game isn't hosted on a server so I doubt it unless they sent out a patch.

EDIT: Apparently it has existed since the EU launch so it is very doubtful it will be fixed.

Googling around brought up one technique that I actually used in my two single player matches. :x

Although it doesn't seem like a glitch, so I'm not sure if we're on the same page.
