Official Mario Strikers Charged! Discussion and FCs

Is there really a bad glitch. Theres a lot ways to create 'glitches' persay but I still think its part of the game. Why can't the other player do the same glitch...its all part of the game.

I've seen a lot of cheap moves and seemingly insurrmountable tactics....all used against me. But they all require some level of skill and timing and I wouldn't call any of them "glitches." So I'm curious about the tactic of which you speak. Whatever it is, it would certainly be tempting to use in the Crystal and Striker Cups, given the already ridiculous difficulty level.

eh so I guess I can't add anyone from outside NA? I tried adding a friend from UK, no dice, we couldn't play. I'll decide later if I want to be in this tournament as I just got the game about 4 hours ago.
Man, I discovered a game breaking glitch/tactic tonight which will guarantee a win every time - and it is simple. I don't even want to say what it is because I know people will use it.

I'm sure others have found it as well but I haven't seen anyone doing it yet (besides me to test the theory). If it becomes widespread the game will be completely broken online.
This kind of crap ruined Mario Kart DS online, and if it ruins this, I'll have no faith in Nintendo's online service. I haven't even received my copy in the mail yet and people are already taking advantage of glitches?

there is no glitch known yet. there are some things that can be quite annoyin... (when people constantly pass it in the air) but so far as to my knowledge (I've played over 60 games) there hasn't been anything abused.

the main overused move has been the hammerhead deke and shoot. this can be fought with a well timed slide tackle. or you can just stand nearby and wait for him to power up his shot, then knock him down. if you're oppoent is lob passing you to death, you simply need to knock them down before they get the ball, or better yet, get in the way and steal the ball.

for the first time last night, i saw someone try to use the ghosts to get by the goaly all game. i couldn't figure out one sure way to stop it. i still nearly won the series, but i wasn't confident with my methods. i've also recently seen a lot of people try to jump over the goaly. this is awsome when it works, but i've only seen it work once. and i've yet to try it.

so far, for me, every attack has a counter. you've just got to find it.

the problem is this crap happens in every online game. I don't get what's so fun about boiling a game down to only 2-3 tactics ever working.. There's always those morons who HAVE to win and will use whatever they read about on gamefaqs to make themselves feel good.

These people usually have no skill otherwise, though and if you can break their routine, they fall apart fast.
the main overused move has been the hammerhead deke and shoot.
If by hammerhead you mean hammer bros., then that's what I was using in single player and then found people talking about online last night.

To be honest, boo and birdo's techniques seem to be pretty foolproof at the net as well. Drybones is also good, but only if you're open for a good period of time, to get the ball after you shock the opponent.

Thumbs down to the online ranked matches. I thought they were supposed to put you up against people of similar rank, but that never happens. I always get somebody ranked way above me who proceeds to hand me my ass. Not fun at all.

I guess what I was referring to is not a glitch (although it should have never been allowed in the game) but a tactic that is super cheap. It has nothing to do with any dekes or jumping goalies etc., and since those maneveurs take at least some skill to pull off and are counter-able, I don't think they are that cheap.

What I am talking about involves no skill whatsoever besides scoring the first goal in a match.

I'm sorry I'm being so vague, I'm not doing it to act like a douche or to make myself feel important because I have some secret info, I just don't think it is a tactic I would like to spread around.

If you search the MSC forums on GameFAQs, you'll find it in there.

i forgot about birdo. her deke and shot is excellent since you can do it from anywhere in the offensive half.

at this point, i really don't have a sidekick i don't like. they all have pretty fun abilities. i always just use the random sidekicks they give me and i try to master all of them.

The only thing I've seen cheap so far, is when people "teleport" via a deke method to show up behind the goalie and score. I hope that's not going to be allowed in our tournament.

if there's still space in the tourament;
my friend code# - 244919 844414
mii name - jeffrie

death to friend codes.

You can get a defender behind the goalie, tackle/steal before the deke, tackle/steal while the opponent is passing the ball in order to get a white charged ball (since these dekes don't/hardly ever get past the goalie without a good charge), etc.

From what I've seen, the game is very balanced. There's always a counter-strategy. If you don't have a high speed, high defense defender in the "protect your goalie" slot of your three sidekicks, an opponent with a high speed or high offense deke can do certain categorical things well when strategically unaccounted for.

I'm interested to know what lebowsky is talking about regarding the "tactic that is super cheap."
Yukine, Waluigi's Wall at my goal not stopping you because of the small divide was classic. Good games.
Yeah, good games.

OP updated with all the weekend adds - we have 21 people in the tournament as of this post. I will put the bracket together in a few hours, so let's put in a 6pm EST deadline for joining.

If anyone has a favorite bracket-maker, let me know. Otherwise there are some freeware ones that will put something together in HTML, so it shouldn't be too painful.

Well, hell. I thought I read a day back or so that the registration for the tournament was closed.

If it's still open, I'll join the tournament.

Edit: I also just added everyone from the OP to my friend list. Some of you that I've added are still showing up as "Connecting...," so I think I either entered them wrong or those are the people that didn't enter my friendcode. Anyone know definitively?

It will tell you if you enter an incorrect code as soon as you enter it.

Not sure if I'm going to do a physical bracket since it won't be updated dynamically or anything, as long as a written-out lineup isn't too confusing. 22 people means there are 10 byes, but oh well. First round will be very quick.

Oh, right, my Mii name is Derek (not Dad ;))

I'll add everyone in the OP later tonight.

Very disappointed with online. It was laggy, and I, playing my first online match, got matched up with some guy who had 50 wins. That's just great. Guess this further solidifies my belief that Nintendo cannot do online.

Disappointing.

Yeah, the matchmaking can suck, but that's a factor of the game mode - they can't match you up with people of similar records and then have that count towards a universal leaderboard, it has to be random. It's missing Mario Kart's "rivals" mode.

I've had some very laggy games on 4 star connections.

Awww. I'm too late to sign up. I'm actually on my way out now to go pick it up.

Oh well.

I'll just play you donks some other time.

Lebowsky if somone did that cheap shit to me I would just turn the wii off. I dont think it will be a problem. It takes too long.

I suck so badly I didn't want to embarass myself in the tourney. I'll play YOU though, Strell ;). And I'll use lebowsky's secret and annoy the hell out of you ;). Actually, no, I won't do that, but I will try toad jumping you.

Can anyone tell me if The Vice or The Classroom have any goofy special effects, that should make them excluded from the tournament?

I'll try to get this put together as simple as possible. I've grouped everyone with a first round bye together so they can immediately play their second round match. All of this will be put in the OP. The bracket was put together seeded in alphabetical/pseudo-random order.

You can blame Nintendo for the whacked out matchups, but the lag is between you and the other player. All WFC does is match two Wiis together. After that, it is just peer-to-peer networking so if either you or your opponent start getting a crap connection, the game is going to suffer.
Lebowsky if somone did that cheap shit to me I would just turn the wii off. I dont think it will be a problem. It takes too long.
I would be super-pissed if someone did it to me as well, but I did it to another guy for a minute, 30 seconds so it can be done the whole match. BTW, I felt like a complete ass after doing it and the entire time it was happening I thought for sure the other guy was going to disconnect.

To his credit, he didn't - and then proceeded to destroy me on the last game.

I don't know if it improved, or just luck, but I was just pared with someone almost identical to me, and I won! Yay! and Botticus, I don't get it, who am I playing against, and what time?

Thanks.

Thanks.
You had a bye the first round, so you technically "won" (noted by the bolding). Your second round match is against CouRageous. You can play whenever you want.

I put in a hard stop of 8/11 for the first round, so if one of the two people in a match was completely unavailable to play by that time, they'll get a loss, and we will move on. I'll put in a hard stop for the second round once the first round is completed.

Good game, SnipeGod - that was intense - each and every match. As you could probably tell, I'm still trying to figure out Waluigi's Wall-Luigi to get the mega-shot off.

Anyway - thanks for the invite and the match.

A true nail biter. Good games.

You had good execution on the wall (and I certainly give enough penalties), but Drybones is so fast. Heh.

Order of weak sauce, table 7.
If you had an even number of competitors, why couldn't everyone have a first round match?
Because unless it's a factor of 2, then you wouldn't have an even number of competitors the next round.

I.e. we have 22, so if we just matched everyone up, the next round there would be 11 people. And if you set up a bye that round, then the 11 would turn into 6. And then the 6 would turn into 3... and then you have to somehow go from 3 to 1. To have no byes, you have to have 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.
Why do I get a Bye Week? Drug testing?
Yeah, your Luigi failed... hopefully by round 2, it'll be out of his system.

Basically the top 10 people alphabetically got byes since they were the top 10 seeds.

daroga I want a rematch. Good game though! But thatbt far the worst game as far as lag goes! l I also had to walk away at the start of the second match because my wife was mad at me. I came back and had to try and stop your charged kick. I normally play at night after the kids are in bed any where from 10PM-2AM EST.

You hate me, that's it, right botticus?

You match me up with the best player of the CAG Strikers? Legendaryhedgehog is going to crush me.

Edit: Oh, and the vice/classroom are vanilla, there are no wonky field effects going on.
