You'll have to fill us (or at least me) on who your team is.
Yes, UGA is terrible right now. We haven't recruited (or landed, either way) good, tall DBs for years. We have hard hitting safties, but we need some CBs who can cover and can shut down these big time receivers that are popping up (Meachem, Johnson just on our schedule alone). Willie Martinez hasn't shown me anything that he isn't riding the coattails of Brian Van Gorder and his defense from a few years ago. Prior to contrary belief in local and national press coverage (mind you, I didn't see the last game) our quarterbacks aren't the problem. We haven't had a trusted receiver since Terrance Edwards left (and even he wasn't that reliable). When your all-time mark for receiving yards in a season is right at 1000, it tells me we are relying on the run too much. We have great running backs, but every defense out there knows they could whisper to our WRs and they'd drop the ball. The problem isn't with the guy throwing, it's with the chumps running the routes. Massaqoui was supposed to be this next great thing, but he's turned into Fred Gibson, a guy with a bunch of hype and he can't catch a cold.
Our OL, DL and RBs are great. Our safties, LBs and QBs are okay, and our WRs and CBs plain suck. We aren't going to beat anyone at this rate, and in the SEC, losing to Vanderbilt is right there with Texas losing to Baylor.
I gotta agree with you on this one. Hell, look at Alabama last year. Their QB was decent (besides being skittish in the pocket and being sacked more than pork and beans at a Winn Dixie grocery store). When Alabama lost their star receiver (Tyrone Prothro), the entire offense fell apart. I also attribute that to Schula's conservative coaching and dependance on one strength in the offense though.
I should be at the Auburn-Georgia game this year. Regardless of the weaker season Georgia is having in comparison to past years, I still think it'll be a good game
