Official NCAA Football 2006 Thread

Oh well. At least the crystal football will be coming back to the state where it belongs. It's about time they got their second NC anyway. Only took them 100 years ;).
I hope UF gets the recognition and accolades for this victory rather than focusing on Ohio State's downfalls and loss.
Not going to happen

The National Championship was sweeter in '96, but this one feels pretty good too!

I almost wish Florida teams would stop winning championships this decade, it's starting to get a little stale

See, to show no ill will towards you Gator fans, I've already changed the title thing under my avatar. Congratulations from a Nole.

Even though I'm a Gator fan and thus hate FSU and Miami, I always rooted for them in their national title games. Gotta stay true to the state in spite of the hate

You know this does prove that Florida produces the finest athletes in the nation. Now UF has 2 NCs, FSU has 2, Miami has friggin' 5. FSU had 14 straight seasons finishing in the top 5. FSU played in 5 NCs in the 90's. UF has played in 3 since 94. Miami, who the hell knows. USF and UCF are both improving. We really do produce the best football players in the country.

Not only that but Florida has some pretty damn good pro teams as well.

Teams from Florida have won titles in every single major American team sport since 2000.

College Football
Miami Hurricanes (2001)
Florida Gators (2006)

College Basketball
Florida Gators (2006)

Major League Baseball
Florida Marlins (2003)

National Football League
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2002)

National Basketball Association
Miami Heat (2005-2006)

National Hockey League
Tampa Bay Lightning (2003-2004)

FSU won the men's track and field national championship this year as well. Lakeland High School was named the #1 high school football team in the nation for like the 3rd consecutive year as well (beating my alma mater in the state championship in all 3 years).

Good to see the sportsmanship gofishn :applause:.

Amazing game and there is no question that Florida is the best team in the country. Ohio State and the Big Ten were clearly exposed in the bowl games and it's great to see all of the analysts get to eat their words about UF not belonging in the game. Glad to see Chris Leak lead the Gators to a title through all of the changes and struggles during his career. Finally, Ron Zook deserves a lot of credit; he recruited a lot of these players, and brought in those coordinators and built that defense.

Now it's time to look forward to March Madness and the repeat for Gator B-ball.:D

It's going to be a long day for me tomorrow. As some of you know I'm in law school here at FSU. What most of you probably don't know is that like 80% of the students at the law school are UF alumni. Ugh, at least I only have one class tomorrow. Actually, it's going to be a long year for me. I'm just glad it's finally all over. The football season from hell couldn't end soon enough.
Obviously it is: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/recap;_ylt=AqCPr9lwLkjJOsCmn_HmVrgcvrYF?gid=200701070105

Not that even the Bobcats played THAT badly.
Haha, me and my mom were rootin' for Southern Miss all the way, seein' as how Brett Favre came from there ;)

Congrats Gators! Not too surprised, Florida did have the harder schedule, thus more than ready for this bowl game =).

Now I wanna see Boise State go for it all as well next season =D

I love how everybody knocked the SEC, downplayed them, and acted as if the SEC was a bunch of hype. Corso is in shock! Watch the weaseling bastard squirm in his chair, as he's shitfaced and has to swallow his pride.

I may find myself there in a year or so :)

You'd fit right in. They even have their own club here called the LitiGators (which is probably the lamest name of all time).
Unbelieveable.

Playoff, please.
I love the fact that Meyer was vocal about the need of a playoff system this year, and claimed that the SEC would not make it to a title game due to the toughness of the conference... yet he just got the crystal football. I hope that both the Florida victory and the Boise St win open a few eyes.

Oh yeah.. didn't somebody beat Florida this year??????

I'm glad Florida won this.. and hell yeah I wanted them to win. This is a huge deal for the SEC, and they had BY FAR a tougher schedule than Ohio, Michigan, Notre Dame, or USC.

Go back out. You have the rare opportunity to be in the same place that's celebrating a major championship. Get out there and enjoy it.

I think there might have been a small fire, trees coming down, people and a cop on the buildings, cops just looking and even taking picture of people taking down trees and stuff, etc.

The real tragedy here is the national champs aren't undefeated... while Boise State will not get a shot at Florida next week.

What's that? Playoffs? Don't talk about playoffs! You kidding me? Playoffs?

Babies will be made in Gainesville on this night :)

I've been to Gainesville a few times. Had a blast each time. I can only imagine what's going on right now down there.. and I'd be running up a $150 tab on Swamp Water... although I am an Auburn fan.

The jean shorts are coming off in Gainesville tonight!

Hehe, Carolina played the Gators better than OSU did.

The people screaming for a playoff system just doubled. We really do need one.

Boy am I glad I went to bed after halftime. No points scored at all second half?! What the shit guys?

I knew that they lost when it was super-quiet all things considered at the end of the game (got up to pee). The only real sound was people slamming doors as they went into their rooms....

What a joke.

You see, I don't get that. OSU got shanked by Florida. How are they still #2? I think LSU deserves that 2nd spot.

And let's take a moment and reflect on how dominating the SEC was this year. In bowl games they went 6-3 and won the National Championship. The most ridiculous part of this whole thing is that Florida isn't even the best team in the SEC!

This is SEC football. No conference is better. Period.

I agree with you. Problem is that competition in the conference is only going to get tougher. You have your mainstays like Florida, Auburn, and so on. Next are the teams getting better like South Carolina. This is one conference that anybody can trip you up. We just like to knock the hell out of each other. Making it that much harder to be in the national championship game. Just another reason to have a playoff.

Edit: Though I do think the talent gap is narrowing between all schools. Like I said before, only so many scholarships to go around.

So true. Florida got really lucky this year, but they were also really good. Barely beat a decent SC team. UGA had six turnovers and it was still up in the air at the end. Lost to a schizo Auburn team. Beat a very good LSU team (arguably the best team in conference up until Russell left).

I've said it once, I'll say it again.

THE Overrated State University

Quote of the year:

"Honestly, we've played a lot better teams than them," Florida defensive end Jarvis Moss said. "I could name four or five teams in the SEC that could probably compete with them and play the same type of game we did against them."

And apparently OSU is 0-8 against SEC teams in bowl games. That's a crazy stat.

How long til the 07 season starts?

To bad Auburn rotates off Carolina's schedule munch. We missed our chance this year. We picked up LSU in Baton Rouge. Which comes after our trip to Athens. Great way to start the conference schedule. Glad we have some non-conference games mixed in there. At least Florida is at home.

Here is looking forward to next season.
THE Overrated State University
Hey, at least they had the better of the two bands on the field last night. That wasn't even close. Best damn band in the land indeed.

Ouch. Hopefully you'll go to Baton Rouge 0-1 in conference.

But I'm always pissed that Florida gets a bye before we play them, and usually we're on our 6th or 7th straight game. Anyone wonder why we don't play them well? When we had the bye, we dominated them. Now it's on the other foot. Both teams should get the bye, or don't have one at all.

And Carolina has 2 of those wins. :) A couple of back to back Outback bowl wins. They won the national title the following year.

I want to say they had a bye before the Carolina game. Not sure.

Edit: Nope, just checked. They barely beat Vandy the week before.

Ok, this is hilarious. Did anyone watch the OSU halftime show? Did anyone notice that they played the theme to Titantic? How fucking ironic is that? The unsinkable ship that went down. My friend and I laughed are asses off at that one.

I'm pissed that Auburn didn't a bye all year. That's horrible scheduling. Auburn was so banged up all year long. There's a pic somewhere of Cox's knee. The bruise was huge. He was having his knee drained twice a week leading up to the Georgia and Alabama games. He, and other players, needed a week off.

Just checked our scheduling for next season. We play 11 games before our bye week. Who the fuck did our scheduling? Well, it does give Spurrier 2 weeks to prepare for Clemson. :) Feel bad for them.

My friends and I did too

What the fuck was up with the tarp they had going? Was that supposed to symbolize water or were they trying to cover up the stinker of a first half their team had on the field?

I never imagined...a band outplaying a football team, let alone their own school's football team. That "Ohio" thing at the start is still the coolest fucking thing ever.

SEC did a bang up job this year. They looked much bigger, faster, and stronger than any other conference in the land. I don't know what's in the water down south but it's workin for these boys. Maybe Wisconsin was really the best team in the Big 10 this year.

This season illustrated perfectly the need for a small playoff system. 4 or 8 teams. I don't care. Just give us something and we can tweak it from there.

I think it all comes down to one thing. How long are we going to continue telling half of the NCAA Division 1A Bowl Subdivision that they have 0% chance of winning a National Championship. How long do we tell them that they're just playing for the sake of playing and maybe you'll get a shot at a multi million dollar BCS game to play a contender has been. Oh and you better go undefeated or you're stuck playing some 6-6 team from a BCS conference with a coach on the way out and players hungry for a win in the Toilet Bowl. Good luck with that.
