The decision was based on overall ability to contribute to a win (skill, positioning, teamwork, adaptability), and line chemistry. You were considered for a D spot. Since I've pretty much been the dedicated Dman for the last two seasons, I was pretty much in by default. Then it was down to you and Matt. I've played more with Matt as my D partner, so we work together a bit better than you and I simply because we know when to cover each other/be more aggressive, etc.

As for agility, I strongly disagree that it's the least important. I got mine to around 80, and I have never slipped on the ice, while I see others slip at least once a game.

I'm not complaining about being off the playoff roster, my internet sucks during the week anyway (you guys would be stuck with another AI half of the time). I respect the decision, but I recommend adding a "second playoff line" so that you could have 10 possible players online instead of 5. That way, in case one or 2 people are missing, you can fill up the roster. I look at it as a challenge for next season to make the roster.

Also, as for saying that agility was useless, I was just fowarding what I heard. I still put it around 80.

Useless? I posted rumours and the new tuner set details, I didn't know that was useless.

Anyways, I tried putting my speed at 80 and my endurance at 88, and I found that I was flying across the ice. Bit slower going left/right, but it shouldn't be too much of a problem as long as the auto back-skate doesn't kick in. I think that perhaps if you use the leftover points for acceleration on offense or use agility on defence(or mix both if you're a hybrid), it should be good enough to avoid arguments over which is better.
I don't understand why I keep coming to this thread. Maybe it's the useless banther back and forth between magicking and the rest.
"Banther?" Is that banter between Sex Panthers? I like the term, unintentional as it may have been.

Gary, if you were serious about what you messaged to me and Nate last night, FrankySox or Pure Apathy might be interested. I can't say for sure, but they're the only ones I can think of.

Just a heads up: The guys in the Madden thread were posting that franchise servers were offline. Not sure if that extends to NHL and the EASHL. I hope not.

All I'm saying is, every time you get to the second game of HUT, it's near impossible unless your goalie is Jesus Christ. I shot 50 shots against the other team with out a single goal. Granted I only have players that are in the 80's and 90's with boosts. But ONE of those shots should have gone in. I already thought about Franky and Apathy though. I'm very tempted.

Edit: Apparently I picked out two words that were bad. BANTER. But now I think I will coin the word Banther.

Like I said, I like "bather"! It's like a term for Sex Panther banter, and also sounds like "bantha".

I have not played HUT online, but the single player tournaments I have tried have been really easy with my starter team. You're playing online, eh?

Like to know what tournament your playing. Cause the second team in the tournament always stomps me no matter who I have playing on my team.

Online and offline. Sometimes I get a really good opponent online who just isn't a douche. Then 90% of the time I get a douche.

I'm playing the very first open tournament, after the original one which is now locked. I can say that, in the demo, I kept losing by 1 goal in the semifinal round of the tournament which was against the Blackhawks, I believe. I also lost in a shootout in my 3rd game of the one solo tournament which is now locked.

I agree with Alan that it seems crazy anybody would call agility "useless". To me, almost everything in that "athleticism" section seems to be pretty important this year. I still think I'd rank acceleration ahead of speed...just for the reason that getting away from the pack is more important than reaching top speed. I'd probably rank agility and endurance even...since not falling down and not getting tired are both important. And balance SHOULD be important...but I'm not sure how much the attribute actually changes. Strength is also far more important than I initially thought. It not only allows you to resist hits, but also to shoot the puck harder (kinda weird though considering there are sliders for slap and wrist shot power).

As for having a "2nd line", if we could do that in game, I would be all for it (and I wish there was a way to do that). But in all honesty, I don't know that we even have 10 dedicated players. We easily have 7-8, but rounding out the 2nd line would throw people in who haven't made near as much of an impact on the team. It would just be tough to play line 2 with players with 15 games and 12 points over line 1 with players with 80 games and 75 points.

HOWEVER, it is a month to month thing. So, for October, everybody is back at zero and has an even shot at making the playoff roster. In the future, having two lines might work if more people increase their team involvement. But for now, anybody who cares that much about being on the playoff roster should play more and prove that they deserve to be there. You and Striker were easily the next top candidates and you both received very strong consideration for every position. But then the idea of mixing up the line and messing with the chemistry came up, which made it tough to decide how subbing someone in would work. Like I told Matt, the winger position just has multiple strong candidates.

As Alan mentioned, not many have bothered to learn defenseman, and the ones who have don't play very often. There was definitely less competition for those spots than there was on the forward line. The possibility of even putting me at the other defensive position was brought up, but we felt that could possibly weaken the forward line by either sticking somebody there who doesn't play center often, or by having an AI center (as we did last week...and then got destroyed on faceoffs). We really did consider almost every possibility though and tried to be as fair as possible.

And yeah, if people want a spot on the playoff roster, it should motivate them to play better next season...which ultimately, helps the team. And just to be clear, none of us are untouchable. If somebody outplays me at center and gives us a better chance to win, I will gladly give them my spot. I'm sure Alan would say the same thing. It's on every individual person to make sure their spot doesn't get taken.

I get that the conversation in here can get heated at times, but mostly for the past week or so, we've just been discussing changes to the game and how to best handle different situations. There have been some disagreements, but I kinda like that people voice their opinions...especially related to the gameplay. It makes it pretty easy to know where everybody stands on things.

I also appreciate it when Alan or Magic relay information coming down from the EA forums. I don't check on there as much as I'd like to, so it's nice to know what people are saying. Yeah, I know, we're taking it seriously. But we've won 9 out of our last 11 games and jumped from 10,000 overall to 3,118. We're having fun.

Also, I tried to give as much attention to your team in the OP as possible. People should have all the info they need to sign up. You guys have 3 members now. You should get some games going and have some fun of your own.

We should have gone undefeated last night, but our AI goalie shit the bed in that one game. Hopefully, the same won't happen in the future.

Nope. It was late, so we just did regular, non-playoff games. We went 3-1, with a fifth game dropping due to the servers going down. It was tied at 2 in overtime.

I'll start playing more in the next month. Between school and work I haven't really had time, but I've stated upping my players ability so I'll be on more.

Well, we didn't bring home a playoff banner on our first try. After the playoff system didn't even work the past couple days, we found out tonight that it's still pretty messed up. At first our team of 5 kept getting matched up with teams of 2 or 3...and of course they wouldn't play us. Then, Matt thought to change the option to find a team with the same number of players. This worked...but it put us up against an elite team.

We backed out, turned that option off, found another team of 2...and they backed out again. So, we gave it one last shot, amazingly found a team of 5, but upon looking them up, discovered they were an elite team as well. After spending about 15 minutes trying to find a fair match up, we just gave up and played the elite team. We caught some bad luck early, getting called for a bunch of odd penalties, and ended up losing 3-0.

It's really pretty crappy considering the game has separate trophies for winning an "elite division playoff', a "pro division playoff", and an "amateur division playoff", but yet an elite team could potentially earn their elite trophy by beating 4 amateur teams. Really lame. After returning to the dressing room, the game informed us that we had been eliminated from the "Division 2" playoffs...to which DarkTower responded "well, yeah...because we played a Divison 1 team!" It's too bad EA's matchmaking doesn't do what it's supposed to do.

Other than that though, we played pretty solid throughout the night. There were a few rough spots, but we went 5-2 (counting the playoff game), with our last two games being DNF wins (even though the last one didn't count when the team quit in the 2nd period).

Sucks that you guys could only find Elite teams, but this is EA... Speaking of which, I'd like to point out that the boosts and achievments for "being part of a team when they play in the EASHL Playoffs" only unlock if you actually PLAY in a playoff game.

Anyways, I found out the general idea of how Endurance works, quote from OS:
If your Endurance is typically around default (65-70), you can only last at maximum ability (on the basis that you do play within your position and you aren't skating freely) for about five to seven minutes.

For every incremental increase of 10 in END, you can last another five minutes. 90 END will let you go till about 2-3 minutes left in the period
If it's one of those games when the players are just skating up and down the ice, I think you cut those times in half.

As for you guys who want to try out goalies: (keep in mind I've gotten all of these from friends and other players)
 • Challenging shots is crucial
 • Puck cover up is no longer automatic for pucks that bounce off of you
 • Screen effect is up
 • Deflections are up
 • One-timers work wonders on Human goalies
 • Shortside is much weaker than last year
 • Centers can do a faceoff deke and get a wide open lane to the goal
Time to get ready for October, eh?

Oh, and before I forget... I'm not the only one on this team with bad luck, you know: http://www.easports.com/media/play/video/38483000

Yeah, so this is what I've been talking about in regards to my Vegas weekend:

FF13-web.jpg

Did you ever notice that my guy can rocket backhanded shots faster and higher than most of our Dmen's slapshots? I could pull out that slapshot that you took from the slot last year that you somehow put wide between the goalie and the net, but trading stupid open net misses is just a bad idea. Know why? Because it only happens when we win the game XD

I Facebook liked that second video, but anyway, how the hell do I send friend requests on EA? Gary requested me a while back, but I can't find a way to send one to Nate, Alan, or anyone else.

On your main hub on the website, there should be an option on the lower left. Also, we are already EA friends Matt.

Magic, Nate's miss wasn't even that bad. He had a VERY small window to shoot it through, and he had to bring it to the front of the net since her picked it up at the side of the net. If he had brought it out any further, he would have shot it into the goalie.

Haha, no need to defend, Alan. I'm sure Magic's just trying to motivate me to be as good of a player as he is. Maybe someday, if I try really hard, I'll have two game misconducts too! :)

That's weird. It only showed Gary as my friend and no one else. Thanks for letting me know where to look, though.

I haven't played a hockey game in years so I picked this up and so far I'm just not getting all the hype. Am I missing something? I really want to love this game but I'm not. Did it take anyone else a little while to get into? I'm trying to decide if its worth sticking around for or dumping it while it's still worth money.

I'm guessing shooting with the right stick is completely foreign to you? It's tough because EA has changed the game TREMENDOUSLY in the past 4 years. I mean, back in the days of NHL 2005-06, it really wasn't good at all, and the 2K series was the standard for hockey. But they turned the entire franchise around by implementing all these changes to the gameplay.

Most of us have only had to deal with one or two new things because we've been playing every year. To learn all of it at once is just going to take some time. I really can't imagine anybody thinking it's not a very good representation of hockey though. What hype is there that's unjustified? It's a great game...you just have to figure out what you're doing.

Hey, aren't you the guy who wanted to play South Park on XBLA? We should do that sometime.

But yeah, what Nate said pretty much covers it.

It's almost a reverse image of the 1 shot 1 goal game. At least the result was in our favor. I looked up their team again, and no wonder they kept up with us. They played that Quebec Force (rated 7 overall now) and lost 1-4 before playing us.

And after watching the video, you can see how we capitalized on a Defensive mistake, as you can argue that all 5 of their skaters went into the corner to dig the puck out.

God, that was draining.

Matt, I think I am down to hop in and join you guys finally... Although I do have the preview update, so if you use party chat I guess I'll have to wait until the full dashboard update.

So I realized that I swapped the console ID and serial number when I filled out the survey for the beta, which is why I haven't gotten it yet. Hopefully they'll be a fix in the next few days.

How do you quickly figure out if the team you are matched up against is an elite or pro level team prior to playing? Can you see the details of their team when you are chosing positions prior to the game or are you quickly looking it up on the EA website before confirming and playing them?

Also did you guys get credit for your playoff games in your player tracker? The playoff games I played while trying to get the achievement for the win didn't seem to count to my games played or stats count.

When it shows the lineups in the loading screen, it also shows the full team name. Then we look it up on their site.

Playoff games don't count towards the tracker iirc.

Nah, just trying to motivate you to not miss the net as much as I do. Also, I'm trying to figure out if Microsoft did accept me for the beta. I'll be sure to let you guys know when I do.

Just wanted to say that a fresh season of hockey will kick off in about 30 minutes. Not sure if anyone has any intentions of playing a few tonight, but definitely anyone who is interested in elevating their play and earning a spot on the October playoff roster should come out tomorrow night for our official Hockey Night. Everyone is set back to zero. So what you do this month will determine whether you're part of the fight for a trophy in the playoffs.

Since we're going into this season with the idea that the strongest players will represent the team in the playoffs, I suggest that if we have 6 or more people on, we definitely have one group running a game and one group running a practice. We can switch up the groups, work on different strategies in practice, and try to get everybody moved up to that next level. We're ranked like 1800 overall now, and should honestly be fairly close to becoming an Elite team. If you think you can help get us there, be sure to be there tomorrow night at 8 PM EST.

Don't worry about it, I don't have mine either. As they said, there's always game chat.
Not looking good for me to play tonight, as I'm still waiting for my beta update.
Yeah, statnut, you can still play with us. We'll just have to switch out of party chat. I don't know why we didn't think of that the other night. I think we were just all thrown off because voice chat sounds so different now. It's like being in the room with somebody. But don't hesitate to message one of us or just show up in the locker room if you want to play...and we'll just switch over.

If you still don't have the update, why did you AGAIN try to invite me to a party last night? You said that you wanted to "test it for tomorrow night". What part of "Players in the update CANNOT party chat with players not in the update" is difficult to comprehend?

Because it's Microsoft we're talking about here. They always say one thing when it's actually the opposite. Besides, EA's game chat cuts out a lot.

I think they would have a fair idea of whether something works or not. Besides, statnut tested it the other night, and it didn't work. He could join the party, but we couldn't hear him. So, it's game chat or no communication for those not in the update.

Well, it looks like there's a boost glitch this year. Aparently, there's a way to have an endless supply of +5 boosts (so you could have +15 speed or something like that), and from what I've heard, most of the top teams are using it.

and of course the boost glitch is super easy to do too. Some boosts overlap so you can have +30 to some attributes. Supposed to have a patch next month to fix it.
