So NHL is just backwards. Club mode is gone from last-gen consoles in Fifa.

Sounds like FIFA 15 PC is not nerfed in any way, so I might hop on that version.

I'm kinda baffled that you hate soccer Nate, it's pretty much hockey with your feet.
I just never had any interest in soccer growing up. I actually always played basketball with my friends, haha. I had some friends who played soccer, but I could never make myself care about it. Too much running, too many players, the field is too big, etc. I mean...I don't hate it like I have something against it. I just can't find a reason to like it, lol. :)

EA still might add with a PATCH, correct? Seems like total garbage.
All they've officially promised is that they will patch OTP in via drop in games. This means you'd select "drop in" from the menu, and get put into a matchup, where you'll pick get to pick an NHL team (if you're lucky enough to be one of the first two people in the room), pick a position, and play as whatever players that team has at that position. They've talked about eventually having lobbies so you actually have a way to be on the same team as your friends...but that could just be hyperbole to not lose any more sales.

They also talked about possibly removing line changes from this mode so people could play as the same player (ie. the 1st line) the entire game...rather than having to play as 3-4 different guys, who might have different handedness.

Most importantly, they don't have a timetable for when any of this will be out. OTP could be in the game a few weeks after the game comes out...or a few months. EA is basically in damage control mode here, so anything they can exaggerate or stretch the truth on, they probably will. Like I've told several people on EA's forum, they're asking you to take their word for something after they just got done lying about it, haha. If you're not happy with how the game is at launch, you're probably better off waiting to see what actually happens.

Another thing I read the other day about why season mode is actually different from Be A GM is that in season mode, you could use non-NHL teams. Some people talked about enjoying doing a CHL season...and maybe more importantly, it allowed European players to do seasons with their favorite teams. You can't do that in Be A GM (or at least you couldn't...we'll see if they actually improved any of the modes that are still in the game). So, yeah...EA's kinda just going out of their way to exclude people at this point.

For Online Team Play, can you have a party of like 3/4 friends? Just curious. I'm a bit bummed.
There's no guarantee you'll end up in the same matchup. When they first patch OTP in, it will be random drop in only. So, the only method you'll have for trying to get in a game with your friends is having everybody hover over the "drop in" option, and say "Ok, ready. 1 - 2 - 3 - GO!" and hope everybody selecting it at the same time will put you in the same room.

EA claims that a second patch will provide the option you're wanting (where everybody in your party can join the same lobby, you can invite them to your lobby, etc). How long that will take EA to accomplish, or if they'll actually do it at all depends on how much you trust EA. As is, I think they're damn crazy thinking they can take 7-8 modes out of the game and still charge the same price. So, I'll either wait until they add back at least a couple of the game modes...or I'll buy it used for significantly less than $60.

In "N8's World" news, lol...the DK2 is here! And holy crap...it's not user friendly at all, haha. I feel like I'm pretty good with computers and I had the first Rift...and it still took me a good hour to get it working.

For one, it needs a firmware update out of the box. But of course, you can't do the firmware update without connecting everything. And before you connect everything, you have to install the drivers/config utility. Even after that though, I don't think it defaults to the right settings. I had all kinds of craziness going on...including color smearing and graphical glitches on my DK2...which scared the shit out of me. Finally, once I figured out the right formula, everything worked perfectly.

It's definitely an improvement though. It's weird thinking that the hardware is better because in a lot of ways, it just feels like it's optimized better. Like playing the same demo in the DK1, I was struggling to get 50 fps...but in the DK2, I'm at a steady 75 fps. I wonder if that's due to my PC not having to render the game twice (once for monitor and once for DK2). That could definitely help people not need monstrous PC's to get the performance required.

Anyway, once I get my daughter down for her nap...it's ETS2 time. OH YEAH!!!!

Huh, thats crazy that you're getting a better framerate at a higher resolution.
Yeah. It's interesting. I do think not rendering to both screens helps though. Playing ETS2 was awesome too. Since i could actually see down the road further, I found myself speeding almost the entire delivery, lol. The menus work with the Rift too, so you can lean in if you can't read something.

The game freaked me out when I finished my delivery because I detached the trailer and instead of the usual job grade screen, I just saw the background. I was like "what the hell...", but then I turned back around and it was just sitting there waiting for me, haha. It's like you're in a room, and the menu screens are just on one wall of the room. It's pretty awesome.

Also, this guy seems to really be enjoying Project Cars. He put the game on Ultra which just destroyed his PC...but the graphics are insane.

Haha, from yesterday's Rust update blog

Censorship
I fixed players being censored even if you had trousers on.. and I added an option to toggle censorship (censornudity 1 in console). Censorship is now disabled by default.

It’s a dick, get over it.
Full update here. I don't know why their pictures look so good, but when you load up the experimental build, it looks nothing like that.

DK2 seems so awesome. Is there a guesstimate on the price they are aiming for retail version whenever that is ready?
The most they've said is "around the same price". That was before the Facebook acquisition too. After that, they claimed being owned by Facebook would allow them to reduce costs...but we'll see. If they keep upping the final specs for the retail version, I would imagine the cost would have to go up. For what the DK2 has in it (front end of a Galaxy Note 4, accelerometers, gyroscopes, leds, etc...not to mention the positional tracking camera), I can't imagine that they're selling it much above cost.

But even still, people are hoping for higher resolution, larger FOV, lighter weight, and other really out there wishes. It'll be interesting to see what else they can accomplish But to me, the biggest areas that need improvement are on the software side. Being more user friendly, better rendering, more natural integration, etc. I think the hardware is pretty damn good right now. Once developers learn how it works a little better, we should see some really amazing stuff.

Highlights from Saturday night...with a couple from the week before thrown in as well (I didn't have a lot of clips that week since it took us so long just to get the server working). Some pretty funny bits though.

Maybe nothing bigger than 32", lol. The one in the living room of our house was massive. Brandon stole a smaller one. Now, we have to go back into the city.

Also, some pretty good and varied sales on Steam this week.

The Bridge - $0.99 (I will likely finally pick this up)

Ducati World Championships - $0.49 (reviews indicate this game is horrible...but for
1352193362_50cent-309.jpg
, it seems like it could be fun)

Check vs Mate - $3.79 (I always get these damn Steam chess games mixed up, but I think this is the one that sucks...good sale, but I'll probably pass)

Violett - $1.99 (Game looks really weird, but that art style is awesome)

Rabbit Hole 3D: Steam Edition - $0.74 (looks kind of like Velocibox, but less rage inducing...maybe)

And I think this game is coming for FIFA...

Hahaha...so awesome how he just walks off the edge. Makes me feel better about my jump fail death.

Also, I was able to grab a beta key for The Crew this morning. I'm not sure if the gameplay will be as tight as Horizon 2...but the premise and atmosphere are outstanding. It's definitely got that Need For Speed Underground/Midnight Club style. Just fun ass arcade racing. Lots of co-op and mini road challenges in between actual missions too. And being able to drive all over the country is badass.

There's a ton of car customization too with specific kits depending on the type of terrain you're setting up for (street, dirt, circuit, etc). The first thing I did was put a giant ass wing and a carbon fiber hood on my Ford Mustang, lol. :)

Even if it doesn't have the same driving physics as Forza, I think this game's going to have so much freedom, it's going to make it a lot of fun.

Hopefully this game breaks Ubi's poor PC port track record.

To be honest, I forgot the NHL demo came out today.  Since I don't have any reason to play the game without team play, I haven't been paying attention.  I will probably download it to see if the game is improved at all since that was the excuse for leaving everything else out but really don't have any interest at all until they at least patch in OTP with friends.

That's because it wasn't supposed to be out until tomorrow. So, either the EA Vancouver team literally can't do anything right...or they're really getting antsy about losing sales, haha. I guess I might as well download the demo. Though even if it plays better...the game has been like that for several years anyway. Demo looks really encouraging...game is pretty solid at launch...then they fuck everything up. At least they did us a solid and fucked everything up early this year!

All right...so I played the demo. For anybody wondering "How different is it from past games?" this video should say it all.

Man, I wish I had known about the demo earlier. No time to play it tonight at this point.

By the way, since it's almost midnight here and already Tuesday in Tennessee: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NATE! I have no funny pics or jokes or anything prepared, but I wanted to post something about it before going to bed.

Now back to talking about things that don't suck, lol. :)

Yeah...I worry a little bit about optimization. Right now, it's locked at 30fps (though you can manually unlock it...but then things get dicey). And they must not have the game set to allocate enough CPU resources because it has some stutter issues (without dropping frames). But people figured out that if you go into your task manager and just set TheCrew.exe to high priority for your CPU...it runs perfectly (i tested this myself and it ran flawlessly after that). So, yeah...definitely some bugs to work out. But the game has so much potential.

I just drove from Detroit to New York City in about 15-20 minutes, haha. Then I went sightseeing. I recorded a video to give a feel for the game. The first few minutes are just me screwing around with customization, so if your'e not into that, just skip ahead to around 4:00 to see gameplay. And all the NYC landmarks are near the end of the video.

Haha, thanks! I'm just old. That is the joke, lol. :oldman:

Though, I would settle for a dirty limerick.

Thanks, guys! Yeah...I don't know what it is with Ubi and not understanding how CPUs work. Watch_Dogs had stutter issues too. I never tried the priority fix for Watch_Dogs because that nVidia update that came out right after the game's launch seemed to fix it, but it makes me wonder if that would have taken care of it too.

I would say maybe they'll fix it before launch, but if it's a common problem for most of their games, then probably not. It seems like such a simple fix too. "Hey, CPU...don't worry about other shit while I'm playing this game...ok? All right, good." lol. The game still looks like it will be pretty good though.

Where is the demo on PS4? I can't find it in the store.
Well...this is the Xbox forum. So, I doubt anyone here is going to know. Last I heard, people were jealous last night because it didn't go up early for PS4. And I have no idea what time demos normally go up on PS4.

The PlayStation store updates seem to come in gradually. Some stuff will be free/on sale and some won't at times until they fully complete the update. Should be available by this afternoon (Pacific) if not earlier.

Can somebody explain what you get different in the $70 version compared to the $60 version? Also is there a better place to pre-order other than Best Buy which is giving away $15 in free HUT items with a pre-order. Also I have GCU from best BUy so a regular copy would be $48 and the definite edition would be $56.

Thanks

Pretty sure it's all HUT shit isn't it? And I wouldn't know about pre-order bonuses. Most of us aren't getting the game, haha. But I would imagine your GCU deal is going to be as good as you're going to get...unless you want to wait and buy the game used and not give EA any money, lol. ;)

It's fun, not $60 fun though. Press nation is nice, and Doc doesn't sound as bad as I thought. I'm confused why there is a water bottle on top of the net when the holder is on the back. Also, all those fans and no hats for a hat trick? Sigh, features for next year I guess.

The thing I told Brandon last night is there needs to be something about it that makes it feel obvious that I'm playing a "next generation" game. And I'm sorry...but I refuse to believe that most of these things couldn't be accomplished on the 360. It was just impossible to add 3 more referees on the ice? Bullshit...both Madden and FIFA have more moving parts on a larger playing surface.

They couldn't remove the "hitting bubble' and give us better physics? Bullshit...collisions mostly worked fine in NHL 12...back when goalies were live. It only became a problem when penalties weren't called properly.

And as long as the same tricks work, people will play the game the exact same way. Like people have been saying, sure, they rebuilt it "from the ground up". They just followed the exact same formula.

Hm, I must have signed up for the beta for The Crew at some point, just got a key :D/
Oh, nice. Definitely check it out. I think the beta only runs through Friday. Maybe we could all get on and try some of the co-op missions one night (I actually got an extra key today in case Brandon didn't get one, haha).

The $70 version comes with "$40" of HUT content. As far as I know in regards to pre-orders, Best Buy and Amazon get you $15 in HUT and Gamestop gets you $20.

This was posted about The Crew by a community manager earlier:

The game will run in 1080p with 30 frames per second on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Xbox 360.

For the PC version, we will offer the option to play with either 60 frames per second or 30 frames per second. That said, in order to provide a smooth experience for everyone during the closed beta on PC, we chose to lock the code on 30 frames per second.
So, good news for PC...probably a little weak for consoles.

Also, I know how this guy feels.

well was going to pick up nhl this year seeing it's been years said i owned one. After playing demo that turned into a no buy for me. I don't know what it's with these dev's but they remove so many things on their first try on this new gen. The only cool part about the demo is the sweet nbc stuff.
