You can but you have to go to the Move Deleter. You can't overwrite it with a new move or another TM/HM.

You can also re-teach a Pokemon a move by going to the same house in Blackthorn and talking to the fat guy. It costs a Heart Scale though.
 
Yes the Move Relearner, need to find him and import some Heart Scales.

I like the whole Shard thing better for the move tutor instead of BP from the battle tower.

Beat the Elite Four last nite. Most problem was Lance and his damn dragonites. My Lapras was great it was just everytime i got him down to a lil hp, here comes Full Restore.

And beware of Karens Umbreon, he loves him some Double Team.

I'll probably end up replacing Giga Drain with Earthquake since I already have Razor Leaf, and that has high attack power. I'd replace Cut, but I have no one else right in my party that could learn it.

On that...do people typically only have 1 type of move per Pokemon? My Staraptor right now has 4 Flying attacks...I realize now that it limits its ability, but what would people suggest?

Also, I forgot to mention that this is in Platinum (I post here now since the Platinum thread is dead....I'd suggest someone make a single, dedicated Pokemon thread) but I do know that the Move Deleter is in Conclave City there..

I usually at most have two of the same type. One attack that is physical damage and the other special. I find it better to have a variety of attacks. An example is my Feraligatr has Ice Fang. Although Feraligatr is weak against grass types, ice moves are super effective against them (and a few other types too). It gives me something to counter attack with so I don't need to keep switching Pokemon. This is all just my opinion though. In no way am I am competitive when it comes to battling other people. I have never fought once over WiFi, but enjoy the single player story.

For Starapator, I had Close Combat, Brave Bird, Aerial Ace, and Fly. The former two deal 120 damage. Close Combat is especially good since it's a great fighting move and Starapator is the only bird that can use it. Aerial Ace always hits, which is good if you ever run into Pokemon that use Minimize/Double Team. Fly I only used for transportation.

It's best to mix it up. As Bretts said, having a move that is super effective is good in the event you have to use that one against your weakness. Having more than 1 type attack also allows you to take out a lot of Pokemon, too.

I agree here, personally I don't like having more than one type of move per pokemon, but that is more on a competitive level. Game wise it should not bother you much.

Say Staraptor I would probably would have gone with Close Combat, Brave Bird, U-turn and for the final one I may have gone with Roost just to recuperate any HP lost in battle from Brave Bird or getting hit or perhaps breeding it and making it learn Pursuit to do some extra damage to Ghost Types.

U-Turn I would probably use to attack an electric type and immediately switching him out.

Yes a lot of pokefreaks like me say only 2 moves tops of the type that your pokemon is. They say you should have status affecter like Thunder Wave or Spore. Something like that.

My suggestion is stick with physical attacks as thats what he is good at.

TM51- Roost- restores your HP
TM06- Toxic- very good poison if you have a open slot
LV28- Aerial Ace- good flying move that never misses, good for pkmn that like Double Team and Minimize.

Use Brave Bird and attach Leftovers and use Roost. Great damage and you dont take that bad of a hit.

Or use Close Combat if you dont mind having your defense lowered.

If you liek flying pokemon id try one that is duel type.
I personally like Yanmega or Togekiss.
Both great pokemon that have good stats.

The Bug Catching Contest is fixed. I caught a level 14 Pinsir which I got excited about. I retired since I needed one and the only thing better would be a Scyther which I can get later. 3rd place was a "writhing Paras", 2nd a "wiggling Metapod", and 1st was a NPC who caught Pinsir. That's a bunch of bull :bomb:

How much HP did your Pinsir have? I lost with a Scyther the first time I tried the contest, then placed in first when I caught another one again on the second try with full HP. I think HP really helps determine the rankings.

I totally agree. Same thing happen to me with some dumg Paras and his Scyther was better than my Scyther that still had 1/3 its HP. I was so pissed. Like I want a damn Shed Skin.

Will my damn mom stop giving me berries that I dont use.
I want her save my money but stop stalking me with berries too.

The Move Deleter and Move Tutor are in a house in the bottom left of Blackthorn. He takes one heart scale to relearn a previous move. I don't know if that is what you are looking for, but that is who is in Blackthorn.

It's HP was in the yellow. I was more concerned with catching it, didn't think HP counted. It shouldn't either. A weak Pinsir could KO a Metapod and Paras.

That is lame that HP counts, but it does matter in this contest.

No, unless you can rig the GTS in both games to get them transferred, but it it nearly impossible to do it that way. That is the only way with one DS system that I know of. I really wish you could just send items and Pokemon to friends and different games at anytime you wanted. If you want, I would be willing to help you trade them over. The only thing is, you need extra Pokemon in SoulSilver to trade to me to get back your original Pokemon from Platinum (it's not like I want to take them, but it has to be a one to one trade if you follow that).

I usually agree with their reviews, but this one was terrible. 90% of what the narrator says is exaggerated nitpicking (like a lot of random encounters and the Pokemon cries). The remaining 10% were compliments but usually attached with some minor gripe (mostly with online). It did say it was the best in the series but never explained why. And people comparing the scores wouldn't be able to tell unless they watched the reviews.

My back was sore last night, so I gave the Pokéwalker to my husband when he went to the gym. When he came back it had nearly 6000 steps. After eight or so tries, I finally caught a Magby. Sweeeeet.

What's the point of the other in-game characters calling you, if you can't tell where they are? "Oh, you almost caught an Abra? Great... I don't know where the heck you are, but boy, I'd like to catch an Abra."

I mean, I know I have the guide and can just look up where a Pokémon can be caught, but this phone system just seems retarded.

Lol yea. Here is a list of their locations, but it just another thing to look up. It might be worth it though because usually when they mention a rare Pokemon, it means it is swarming on that route. It would probably be a good time to try catching it if you want that Pokemon. If that kid calls me one more time and tells me how awesome his Rattata is, I promise to look him up and kills his "special" Rattata. I gave my number out to way too many people (everyone that asked for it).
 
I'm sooo happy! I got HG and SS with the hope that my wife would try it and like it.

Well, she tried it, and she likes it! She asked me all kinda cute pokemon questions last night and I explained some stuff to her about strengths and weaknesses of different types.

Im about 10-12 hours in and I think she's already caugt up to me.

Now this weekend I need figure out the Pokewalker and get that going.



Question: When am I able to trade pokemon from other games? Do I need to beat all the gyms or the final four? I've love to import some pokes from my other games already. I just beat the second Gym.

Congrats on getting your wife into Pokémon. Games are always more fun when someone close plays it too. My husband has a mild interest in Pokémon, but I think the first time he realized he'd have to level-grind, the game would be put down for good. He is a gamer, but RPGs just aren't his thing.

You can start trading Pokémon from the other games as soon as the bottom floor of the Pokémon center is open, which is around the 3rd gym badge, I think. You can trade with folks you know the friend code of.

You can trade around the world when you reach Goldenrod City. Not sure if you need a certain gym badge or something to get in there. I know I had already beaten the gym before I discovered the GTS was there in Goldenrod.
 
I grinded in the Burned Tower until I got a Magmar. Goes to figure as soon as I get a Magby from the Pokéwalker, I'll get a Magmar in the game. Ah well, at least future hatchings will go much faster.

And btw, the GameStop Jirachi is pretty sweet. Transfered it from my Platinum and am using it now.

Not bad Brett, I was thinking of doing a mini guide for them.
I got my Magmar in the Safari Zone and it helped me get my Eevees and Chikoritas.

I agree about Joey and his damn Rattata are getting on my nerves. In the old GSC you used to be able to delete number because it couldnt hold all of them. But this gen can hold them all. If you can only add the people that say they sometimes find stuff because every know and then whatever Pokemon type they are they will give you a stone which is sweet but takes forever.

Caught my Raikou the other day by using Drakes idea which is what i used all the time. But instead of using repel all the time i just check the map and see if hes there. Talks a lil more time but u dont waste repels.

The only mistake I caught is you forgot to bold Water and Grass for Onix since they're both 4x effective against it. I'd recommend adding the genders to their Pokemon, too.

As for those phonecalls, I'm also sick of Joey and his Rattata fixation. So far one person called me and said 'I'm waiting here for you' and when I went there the guy gave me some berries. But the rest of the calls seem pretty worthless.

Although I think I miss alot of them. I ususally listen to music on my headphones and play the game with the sound off. I went into a Pokemart and the delivery guy there had like 7 things from my Mom for me. I guess I missed her calls. Just like with real mom! =P

I dont know if it makes a sound since i keep my mine on mute and rock my ipod.
But i know as soon as you do something like talk to someone or battle they hang up.
If you missed calls just go to your map and stroll over the routes. If you see a !, that means someone there wants you to battle or give you something.

I'm a bit undecided as to what to do now. I could easily beat the Elite 4 with the 4 Pokemon I have (Typhlosion, Heracross, Lugia, Dragonite). But I've always gone in with 6 Pokemon and it would feel incomplete if I did now. I have a Staryu (lv 20) and Larvitar (lv 18), but they'd need serious grinding to get to the minimum 40 (especially Larvitar). I have a level 55 Tyranitar on my Diamond I could use, but that feels cheap.

Thanks, that's what I thought and that's what I did yesterday but for some reason the little icon doesn't show up. Maybe I'll shoot them an e-mail about it.

About your E4 problem, I know what you mean about feeling incomplete going in with only 4 Pokemon. If you bring Staryu and Larvitar to one of your favorite training spots Im sure you could train them to decent levels in less than a day.
 
Argh, I can't catch Raikou. I used faint swipe to get him to 1 hp, but he just busts my pokeballs (trying fast and ultra).

I have six badges and my main pokemon is level 34. Should I wait until later to try to catch him or is he always hard?

I'd say he's pretty much always been that hard. Raikou was always the most difficult one to get for me.
 
Quick question.... I can bring Arceus over to my SS, but what pokemon should I pick when it lets me get the bonus lv 1 legendary? Thoughts?
 
Icedrake, I suggest a dark or Ghost type.
Maybe a Gengar or Umbreonto help pad the team out some.

With Raikou, once you have him down to 1HP, next is Paralyze or Sleep. A status condition helps out. Then use your highest lv pokemon when you start throwing pokeballs.

I like having my team fully evolved with most of the moves I want when I go to face the Elite 4. Also helps in case of an emergency. It seems kinda pointless, but I just like having 6, fully evolved Pokemon the first time I'm enshrined in the Hall of Fame.

I used Gengar in Diamond so I don't want to use him again (which is unfortunate since the first Gastly I caught had a Modest nature). I am training a Larvitar so that'll fill the Dark spot.

I would pick Giratina, because that is the only way to get the Griseous Orb in HGSS. That item is unable to be traded over to the game from Platinum, and the Lv 1 Giratina should be holding it when you obtain him. When he is holding the item, he changes to the Origin Forme.
 
Plus it's a Dragon/Ghost. The two coolest types (though Giratina isn't as awesome as he could have been).

From a usefulness standpoint, I prefer Palkia, especially if you will not be doing any competitive battling. paulcalypse is correct in saying that choosing Giratina is the only way of getting the Griseous Orb though.
