Official Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver thread of 10 year nostalgia rush

Real quick: I thought someone had mentioned there was a way to transfer the items and Pokemon you've caught in the Pokewalker back to the DS without removing all the watts from the Pokewalker? This way, you can keep getting more stuff. I tried this a couple nights ago, and I must have done it wrong. Unless it can't be done?

Can't be done, which is really annoying. I have had to transfer hundreds of watts at a time that I did not want to send.

Getting pissed that your not winning the Bug Contest.
It seems they have getting harder then the GSC contest.
Heres some tips on how to win.

1. Get your strongest pokemon with a Sleep indusing move.
I used my Lv 54 Gengar, with a Heart Scale, he was ready.

2. Find a Pinsir/Scyther as they are the best.

3. Use Sleep and throw Balls.

5. I tried this and won with a Pinsir. And every pokemon I tried it with was caught without fail.

6. Once youve caught your top pokemon, go and catch others till the 20 minutes run out or youve caught them all. Never trade away your top pokemon. Just fill you pokedex.

Good Luck and have fun.

Yeah, annoying for sure. Glad I wasn't doing it wrong. Just can't be done.
Is there any way to use the wi-fi service for downloading the yellow forest etc. with a WPA wireless router set-up?

I've been trying with my DS and my nephew's DSi and am wondering if everyone else simply uses WEP security on their networks. Or is there a public hotspot with WEP security that people with WPA networks use specifically for DS-related downloading?

I want the Yellow Forest route, but I don't really want to mess with my router configuration.
I hate this about the DSlite. I wind up connecting to my neighbors network whenever I want to go Wifi with my DS.

Does the DSi or DSXL work with WPA networks? It might be worth me upgrading just for that.

I still dont have Yellow Roadway, my new DSL I'm using isn't setup for any Wifi right now.

Can someone remind me about the whole breeding from another region increases the odds of getting a Shiny? It's gotta be like, breeding one Pokemon from SoulSilver and one from Platinum, for example?

Different geographical regions, like using one from NA and one from Asia.
Different geographical regions, like using one from NA and one from Asia.
Ah, great. I got a Ditto over the GTS from England or somewhere. That should count, I imagine.

The one who had mentioned you could keep your watts was you Utop :p lol. Now I wonder, is there a specific way to know if your pokemon is indeed from another region? I remember there was this one NPC in Diamond that if you took him foreign pokemon he would add their description written in the foreign language. I think he would give you a German Magikarp.

How can one be so sure that pokemon you got from another region is indeed from another region not from that place. Another question is, say I got a Japanese totodile and bred him. Are all those new Totodile foreign or counts as U.S.?
Not true on the saving watts. There are two options on the pokewalker, return from stroll or receive gifts. If you return from stroll, the pokemon, watts, items and any pokemon obtained in your walk will go to your DS game.

If you choose receive gifts the pokemon will stay, but the watts, items and any pokemon obtained in the walk go to the DS game.

The only advantage of keeping a pokemon in the pokewalker is if you know which 3 from each group you obtained and you want that. For example you know that Surfing Pikachu is in group A, so you decide that you want to keep your current pokemon in. This will make it so you will run into Surfing Pikachu and not Flying Pikachu. If you want to take your chances for another group, then exchange pokemon or just put your pokemon in the game and back to a stroll.

I think Ryu mentioned he got a Flying and Surfing Pikachu, but one of them would have to be from another stroll. There can only be one pokemon from each group, and both of those are group A.

Also if you do run into a better item or pokemon you are able to replace the item. It will show the pictures of either three gifts or three pokeballs. You just have to remember which one is which and then replace it with the new item.

Remember it is different regions as in say a Japanese Pikachu and a U.S. Ditto, not a Sinnoh region pokemon breeding with a Johto region one.

Also, I just saw your message adriley, maybe tomorrow we'll do some trading, had to finish up some homework and such...might have to do the same tomorrow...so we'll see. But yeah, I'm up for some trading when possible.
The eggs take on the region where they are hatched. Your pokedex might be able to help you identify which region a pokemon is from. I got a German Charmeleon last week, and my pokedex updated to add a German description of Charmeleon. Also, most if not all of the pokemon I get from Japan have their names in Japanese, so those are really easy to tell.

grr I spotted some of those special walmart bundles, it's temping to get SoulSilver with the pokewalker cover (I already have HeartGold)someone talk me out of it lol

Is there any way to use the Global Trading Station so that you can actually find people that accept something other than Lv. 100 legendaries?

I would like to see that as well. It's just not fun. I know we all want level 100 legendaries but seriously folks lets get real ok?

I gave up on the special Pikachus. I'm sure someone will get one, then breed the heck out of them for trades. I'm at 4 badges right now. I need to find some Oran Berries too.

You can't breed Surf or Fly Pikachus since those moves aren't egg moves.
You can't breed Surf or Fly Pikachus since those moves aren't egg moves.
While you can't do it for Pikachu, you can definitely pass on HMs via breeding if the baby pokemon can learn the HM regularly. Breeding for a Surfing Pikachu wouldn't work anyway since the one you catch is female and not male.
Ah, great. I got a Ditto over the GTS from England or somewhere. That should count, I imagine.
Nope it has to be from a different language.

Well I know most of the Japanese have Kanji in their name, except when they evolved, or if the they have a nick name given. I didn't know this game had the option like in Diamond where you can see the foreign description, that's cool, guess I'll check to see who I have.

You know if it's for all pokemon or like last time only a certain amount of pokemon who would give the extra descriptions

If you want a Surfing one, I'll be willing to trade. As I said earlier I'll take 2 pokemon, that I don't have in my pokedex, and that includes a lot of the bug types out there. If not, at least one pokemon and an extra you have around, I'll give you a Surfing and either a Flail or a Volt Tackle Pikachu. I just have so many of those I want to trade those group B pokemon.

Oh yeah if anyone wants Totodile, I'll take whatever, don't really care. I have plenty of those too.

I'm putting myself at risk here because I'm admitting I'm not going back to read all 69 pages of this forum post so far, but I'm having problems connecting my DS to my Wii.

I saw the last option on the main screen that said "Wii Message Settings" and entered my Wii number as indicated. My Wii is online via my wireless router, and my DS has the same capability. The DS indicates that it sent a message to my Wii number that I entered, but then it asks you to type in a 4-digit confirmation number.

I've yet to get a registration message with the confirmation number. Has anyone had this problem and knows how to troubleshoot it? There are days where I'm in that great debate between 360/Wii/DS that if my Wii had a message saying my GTS trade went through, I'd probably pick up the DS.

Thanks in advance everybody! Happy hunting!

The directions for the game indicate that you need to add an email address to your address book on your wii in order to receive this message.
I believe it is: [email protected]

I'll hit ya tonight maybe :) Only have surf pika though.

For sure, same reason I want the flying pokemon, just to have one haha.

Hmm I am home right now, but doing some homework...I see you on yahoo, so when I finish a few of these problems I'll hit you up and do a trade, though I am in the Ice Cave right now, but think I may have an escape rope...if not might take longer, since I'm exploring there anyways.

No Prob

Some of these ppl in GTS are stupid.
Unless you hack how do you get a under lv 9 of final forms like Dewgong and Ampharos.
Really people. I just want some pokemon to fill out my pokedex.
lol.
Ill try and catch some JPN Dittos from the Jpn Diamond. Maybe
No worries. I can just get one from the GTS. Dittos aren't hard to get in HG/SS.

You can't live without it! Go back and buy it! :bouncy:

I always just figure it's trades put up by people who don't really understand Pokémon.

Though sometimes they just want to show off a certain pokemon. I tend to see say a legendary and they would ask for an evolution of a pokemon at a very low level. Since normally you couldn't trade that since it wouldn't exist. Though sometimes I wish I would go get an action replay or something and show them!
Haha

uto- u gonna trade tonite or 2moro
either way is cool
thx a bunch
I can get online now. I'm playing the Xbox with the hubby, so I can't really be on CAG too. We game? I can hop online in a sec.

I'm going in the living room to play with him, so I'll have my DS in the Wi-fi room. Just join me when you can. I'll keep it going for 10-15 minutes or so.
Yes I beat him
Congrats!

I'm still only at 6 gym badges and like 60 hours into the game. There's so much to do that's not part of the main storyline. I love the value of Pokémon games.

Man, this pokewalker reminds me so much of the "Pokemon Pikachu" handheld thing. (Without all the annoying clicking!). God, 12 years later and I'm still doing it, just more high tech.

I love life.

does the mood of the pokemon have any effect on it?
for example will a pokemon thats bold perform better than one thats timid.
why do some people prefer certain moods over others

What you're referring to is nature.

The way natures work is that, once the Pokemon reaches level 100, one stat (Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Spec. Defense, Speed) will be 10% greater and another stat will be 10% less than what it would be.

Some stats don't have this affect (they're neutral since they'd be adding and reducing to the same stat). What nature you want depends on the Pokemon and it's role. Usually you'll want to add to what it's already strong in. For example, Alakazam you'd want Modest or Timid. Both stats reduce Attack, a stat that is useless for Alakazam since it's best attacks are all Special. Modest increases Special Attack while Timid increases Speed, both of Alakazam's best stats.

This only applies to competitive battling though. In game, it doesn't matter. It's nice but not necessary.

Here's a list of all the natures and which stats they affect.
