Official Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver thread of 10 year nostalgia rush
Man, just checked the guide, and you're right. All the Pokémon offered in the Game Corner can be achieved through other ways in the game. Kind of stupid. I thought that in the past, you could only get the Pokémon offered there from the Game Corner. Maybe it's just you can get them earlier or easier from the Game Corner?
In Red and Blue (and their remakes), Porygon was the only Pokemon you could get from the Game Corner.
The old game corner was easier as the games were easier and you could just buy the coins.
Which I always did to get my Abra.

So I was browsing thur Seribii and found that you can get Hoenn and Sinnoh pokemon with just your radio. Now I can get a good Electric pokemon than Flaaffy.

Just get an Elekid and eventually turn it into an Electivire. It was pretty easy catching mine on the pokewalker, though I want to try and get a better nature than what I currently have. Once I get set up, I am planning to use Feraligator, Magmortar, Electivire, Gengar, Tyranitar, and Dragonite I guess. Might swap out Electivire and Gengar for different ones, as I am trying to use pokemon I do not normally use. Nidoking would take one of the spots and no clue on the other, maybe Umbreon. Not too concerned about maximum coverage as the gyms are usually pretty easy, so just focusing on pokemon that I haven't used and wouldnt mind using.

Finally my Eevee evolved into Espeon at lv 21.
Got a TM for Psychic and then some lving up as Espeon is the king on my team. Now I need to start training a Larvatar so he can be ready by Elite Four.

Have fun getting the item that evolve into Electivire. That took a long time for me in Pearl.,

I have them on platinum, I can just move them over.

So far I only have 2 pokemon:

1. Typhlosion
2. Porygon-Z

They are both lv. 45.

Suggestions for dragon type?
Natures

Different natures effect the Pokemon's stats, which in turn plays a role in attacking, defending, speed, etc. It is pretty complex, but follow that link and it should clear somethings up.

Edit: If you don't understand Pokemon stats, go here first: Stats
Thanks! I've been hearing a lot about EV training but never really understood it.

Dratini takes forever to level up (36 then 55) but Dragonite has a big movepool. Tyranitar isn't a dragon but the GSC psuedo-legendary. He's awesome but I'm not a huge fan since he has a lot of weaknesses (4x weakness to fighting is especially bad). There's Kingdra who is easier to get but more limited. It does however not have a weakness to Ice, all but Palkia and Dialgia(?) do.

I'd say Dragonite is the way to go. You can get it early in the Goldenrod Game Corner and it can learn a lot as Dragonite. You could always go with Gyarados who would be a dragon if they could have a 3rd typing.

Alright, I'm gonna go pick up a copy today, its too tempting not to buy it for $10. ($20 GC from buying GoW III and the $10 off coupon).

So, which version shall I get? I was leaning towards HeartGold....simply because its Gold.

Bout to go fight Pryce as ive just beat all the trainers.
All my pokemon are around 30 and i know they are to low and need some serious training.

Spent some more time in the new Safari Zone which is kinda cool except i couldnt get Larvitar. Oh well.

How did I miss this? I saw it at Best Buy and snapped.

The only difference between each is a dozen or so different Pokemon right?

Since Gold/Silver was on GB, I assume the graphics have been updated to DS standards?

Yes graphics have been updated and lots of small changes.
Plus since the original there are now over 400 pkmn
worth the buy

Same here. That sucked.

Right now I'm in Olivine town I think it's called and been enjoying the poke'walker I was surprised it was coming to our version I thought we'd just get the games..

The second night of playing soulsilver I caught a shiny hoothoot and then the third day I caught a shiny rattata which this makes three shiny pokemon in my collection out of all the games Giratina, hoothoot, rattata, and it would have been meowth too in my diamond version, but I fell asleep while playing and never saved after catching it.. lol

Playing this brings back a lot of memories I just loved the G/S/C GBC games.

So, can anyone clear this up for me, are any of the Regi's capture-able in Platinum? I've read Serebii....but it lists them as "Interact" and I'm not entirely sure what that means...

Hmm dragonite seems to overrated IMO. So I went with a Salamence!
I also thought about raising a Tyranitar and Snorlax. But IDK yet

Good choice. Salamence is the coolest looking dragon, IMO. I would have used him but I like to stick to Pokemon native to the region and haven't used a Dragonite since Blue (my file which crashed that is).
Can I trade from Pokemon FireRed/Ruby with SoulSilver, or do I need Platinum for that?
The old Safari Zone in Fuschia City is the new Pal Park. So yes, you will be able to import pokemon from the GBA games.

There was some special event Regigigas given away at Toy's R Us. If you have this guy in your party, then it unlocks the area to get the Regi's.

Noobish pokemon question for soul silver:
Do you folks know of a good website that will help me sort out pokemon development and which ones I should focus on when I encounter them? I've never played through a pokemon game before and I want a guide to help evaluate and choose which Pokemon I should be pouring time into leveling up etc when you add so many different ones.

For instance, Oddish looks hilarious as a plant-type, but is he worth building up? Or spearow vs. pidgey?

Games like Devil Survivor and DQ Monsters have a hierarchy of monsters (grades for DQM like A, B, C) and I'd appreciate a quick way to know which one guys are going to develop well.

For the Pokemon you use to get through the campaign, it really doesn't matter. Anything you want to use will work.

Here's a guide for using Pokemon competitively. Though a lot of it requires breeding Pokemon to get certain moves and natures and then training them in specific ways to get EVs (hidden boosts to their stats). But, as I said, it's not necessary to get too involved in this for the single-player.

Thank you very much!

all I have left to do is face Red and that's going to be a task within itself. After getting all 16 badges my Pokemon are in their early 60s and even when looking at other Pokemon I've trained in the past I only have two in their eighties. I guess beating the Elite 4 a few times might help matters.

Ive:

-Beaten the E4
-Caught Lugia
-Beat Surge and Misty
-Explored a bit of Kanto, beat a dozen or so trainers
-Did the Power Plant sidequest

And have a team of:
-Level 51 Umbreon
-Level 49 Feraligatr
-Level 46 Togekiss
-Level 47 Golem
(Also using Lugia to act as a bit of padding when my team isn't doing so hot)

Kanto is pretty cool so far. I like having so much to do with so little direction. I think Im going to have a team of 65-70 by the time I face Red.

Oh, and Im almost 24 hours in. Havent touched Game Corner/the cave with the Tyrogue/Dark Cave/Pokeathalon/enough of the Safari Zone/The Route before Safari Zone, so Ill probably check those out when Im housekeeping after I beat Red.

After beating red you can also fight the rematch with Elite 4

Sorry for the noob question but how do I transfer Pokemon to the Pokewalker? The manual isn't very helpful at all. It says I need to put a Pokemon in my PC first but it says I need ball capsules/seals first but I don't know where to get any. Do I have to play the game for awhile before I can transfer?

Thanks

I just want a diverse team meaning all types I can think of and from all regions, kanto, johto, sinnoh, and hoenn. I think this will be my first time NOT using a legendary on my team.

You know what would be cool? if we could trade our from the RBY generation all the way to HG/SS. That would be awesome. But too bad you couldn't transfer from Gold/Silver to the Advance generation. Otherwise, you would have your pokemon from the 90's (thats if your file isn't corrupt)

Get it in your PC, save+reset and go to the third option on the main menu. Press the middle button on the pokewalker a few times to connect. It uses line of sight connection with the cart - make them face each other.

Your pokemon must be in the PC that is all. Save and then reset the game or turn off then on. At the beginning you will see different options like the continue or start a new game, in those options one of them will be about the pokewalker. Choose that, and everything else should be self explanatory. I think the option to send to the pokewalker is obtained as soon as you do your first save.

Also, even if you just register your pokewalker by turning it on and connecting it with your ds for the first time you can use it and obtain watts. At times a wild pokemon will just join you. So you don't even need to go and transfer a pokemon if you do not want.

I used my Pokewalker today, and walked about 7000 steps for exercise. Leveled up my Red Gyarados halfway. I've got to move that Pikachu-colored Pichu into my game.

If anyone is interested, I have 6 extra female Dratini caught via the pokewalker that I would be happy to trade. Off the top of my head, a Cyndaquil, Chickorita, or Extreme Speed male Dratini would be great in exchange. If not, maybe I'll just hand some out for some version exclusives, since I only have HeartGold.

Ugh, while playing today I accidentally dropped my DS and the bottom touchscreen now has lines on it. I could still play pokemon but it will be annoying.

that sucks man.

Just made it to Blackthorn. but i think Im gonna go down the dark cave and try to do some serious leveling up before i go after Claire and the rest of the game.

Anyone got a spare Eevee they want to trade for a Jolteon.

Thx a bunch

im so jealous
I want one.
i put mine on my dogs leash and let him run around the yard which usually gets me 2 miles a day. Tried a fan but the ride is to smooth.

Just traded a spare Chikarita for a larvitar
Then breed 3 eevee, for a jolteon until i remembered i dont have a thunderstone

can anyone help out with that and a fire stone

Wish I could say go to the yellow forest, but we haven't had that route opened yet. Well at the end of next week you should be able to obtain it through wi-fi and that would be one way to get a thunderstone.

I just put up a turtwig up on the gts for a chikorita. Got myself a male nidoran for a female nidoran. Unfortunately when I got platinum I got one of those first batches where you can't trade, only put up a pokemon, so now that I can trade very convenient.

You could always trade in platinum. The 'bug' was that the GTS did not tell you the level that the other person wanted when using SEEK POKEMON. If you just deposited a pokemon and asked for one in return, you would also have no problems trading, assuming somebody liked your trade.

Man, I feel like all I've done so far is just train, train, and train. I spent like 4 hours just training three pokemon before even going to the first gym. This game is more addicting than I thought. I really wish we could be allowed more than 6 pokemon in the party.

I know, that's what I said. I said I can now actually trade and not just put up a pokemon. Being able to see what other people have up and actually be able to now trade for it is much better to me than just putting my pokemon up. Now I can do both.

You keep saying you can't trade in platinum when you can, which was my point. I have done many trades in platinum via seeking. Sure it's a pain in the ass to not know the level beforehand (since you run into cases where you have the pokemon requested but not of the level wanted), but it was still possible to trade via seeking. I didn't mean to turn this into an argument, I was just pointing out that it's possible to do both on Platinum.

It is so hard finding a "fair" trade on the GTS though. Everything I look up wants Celebi, Arceus, Darkrai, etc.
