Official Rock Band Thread (It's out, bitches)

This may be a dumb question, but can you disassemble the drums for storage?

I've just realized I don't exactly have a ton of room in my dorm room for all this crap when I'm not using it.
Off the top of my head: Misirlou, Psychobilly Freakout, Carry Me Home, Institutionalized, Six, Thunderhorse.
I'd probably dispute some of those (Misirlou was pretty easy on Hard), but yeah, the rest are pretty close. Green Grass is quite a bit longer than those, though, which should add to the difficulty a bit.

Yep. Assembly/disassembly video here.

I just preordered the bundle at Gamestop. I called them just to check, and someone cancelled their preorder earlier today. I immediately swooped in and took it.
Nice! Congrats on that. After all the talk about problems shipping units, I am happy I pre-ordered last month.

Two more days to go!!
Yes, everybody can have a different difficultie in World Tour mode. It is a very nice feature as most people find the drums to be a bit more difficult then the guitar.
Thank you, sir, for the answer :D

We're going to have a fucking blast with this in a couple days.
Just got my call from gamestop informing to pick up my copy at midnight tomorow....can't waittttt.
Yeah, I was psyched to find out my Gamestop's doing that. I'll be there tonight!

I haven't been this psyched for a game since Morrowind on Xbox :)

I'm pretty angry about the fact that the PS3 Les Paul controller will not work on Rock Band... X_X

It made me do a 180 and now I'm getting a Xbox 360 version + GH II bundle...

Haven't gotten a call from the GS I ordered it from. Then again its run by morons. They better not screw this up.

Interesting that "Dead on Arrival" is in a higher tier than "Epic". I'm excited to play both of those songs, but Mike Patton anything is always tough vocally.

I pre-ordered October 31st and the manager at my EB said I was alright (since this was before the email confirming number of units). I know I'll be pretty nervous though until I get my copy tomorrow.

How oversold are most stores? I don't think I'll have a problem, since I plan on being there by 11:30 or so tonight, but it's pretty shitty that we've reached a point in which pre-ordering doesn't even remove the potential of being left empty-handed. It's the only reason I'm driving there tonight vs. tomorrow morning.

I'm getting mine from Walmart, since I have $150 GC for there. I'm just hoping that the hype isn't anywhere near Halo3, which it shouldn't be. I'm heading up at 11 tonight and hopefully will have some luck. It's a small town, so who knows.

I'm sure the hype is nowhere near Halo 3, but the the box is about a hundred times greater. I can't imagine stores are going to get dozens upon dozens of copies--retailers have to be excited about all of these massive packages that are also incredibly hot items.

So what's this I've been hearing about faulty drum kits?? Should we be worried? I'm a drummer and I don't play pretty hard, I just don't want to break the damn thing by just barely touching it...
How oversold are most stores?
Assuming most stores read their emails and follow procedure, most if not all stores should get only the amount they pre-ordered. Then again I guess it all depends on the popularity of the game in your area too.

At my store I think 8-9 people pre-ordered for both systems, and then I believe a week or so later they stopped taking pre-orders (because of the shutdown of the SKU as well as emails confirming number of units per store)

I'm just hoping by some weird luck they get LESS than they were expecting and I'd have to wait on my pre-order.
The GameTrailers review said "no online co-op". Does that mean no online play at all?
you're suppose to be able to play Quick-Play online.

you can't do World Band Tour or whatever it's called online.

After my Gamestop travesty I ended up doing the Amazon preorder thing, and despite their warning that it might take till mid-December to fulfill all preorders I got an email saying mine shipped today. I had a coupon (and I'm impatient) and opted for overnight delivery, so I'm pretty excited. Get ready for awesome!!!!!

I posted this in the PS3 forum, but IGN has confirmed the PS3 Les Paul Controller does NOT work with Rock Band.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/836/836267p1.html

After reading some copy/paste comments on the Rock Band board, it looks like this could've been figured out a long time ago. Looks like all the guitar compatibility tests that were done at IGN (maybe other sites as well) were all Xbox 360 units. For some reason Harmonix did not send them PS3 bundles for review, until they requested them late (hence the news NOW that the Les Paul doesn't work).

They were "lead" to believe that every version would be the same and posted the compatibility chart anyway.

I just got my call from EB to pick up my pre-order tomorrow. Looks like I'll have to get used to playing the Strat Controller.

Just got back from Wal-mart in Columbus, Ohio. They had soooo many. There were probably 30+ people in line and they still had stacks and stacks of both versions left.

Doesn't seem to be in low supply to me....

Just got back from Wal-Mart. Walked right in and waited 5 minutes for them to bring the cases of Rock Band from the back. They brought out a skid with about 16-20 Xbox 360 versions and I picked one up.

There was only 1 other person in line and she wanted the PS3 version. The employee was going back to the backroom to see if they had any PS3 versions in stock, but I didn't stick around to find out.

This was infinitely easier for me to find than I had imagined. I still think they'll be hard to find throughout the holidays though.

Edit: This was at the Milford Parkway location in Cincinnati.

Exact opposite of the Johnstown, PA store. I got there 1.5 hours early and was 2nd in line of 30+ and they only had 4 ps3 and 4 360.

It took them a 1/2 hour to find them in the back. The manager brought out the game only copies and said that was all they had. All of us at the front of the line refused to accept that and she went back and looked again until she finally found them.

Either way, I just got home. I got mine and there are alot of pissed off people.

Which 'un did you go to?

I didn't know there was electricity in Milford.

;)

I'm rather close to the "Supercenter" in...Ft. Wright, I think.

I'm going to hold my nose and hope that I can pick up the game only tomorrow w/ GS credit and that the X-plorer will work with it. In the meantime, I'm really anticipating EA's rationale for releasing the PS3 version software only, when no fucking controllers (1) are available and (2) no others will work with it.

The X-plorer's confirmed to work w/ the 360 Rockband.

Holy crap I hadn't even thought of that before.

I guess those people who fall for it will just have to wait until February when they can buy individual instruments.

I wonder if you can play it with the sixaxis? I know guitar hero can be played with a regular old controller.

Notes:

Drums-
Drums feel sturdy and are fun as hell to play.
Medium right now is pretty hard - hitting about 85% right now.

Guitar-
The frets take getting used to but after one or two songs you get it.
I haven't tried the solo buttons yet.
The strum bar is different from GH but in a good way.
Expert = GH2 Hard right now. But that's on the first tier.
I've 5 starred all of them on the first tier but I expect them to get harder.

Vocals-
Haven't played.

Game-
I like how there is different songs to play for each instrument in quickplay.
World Tour will be amazing after my brother wakes up.
This will be the ultimate party game, no doubt in my mind.
Are you fuckin' crazy?

Lol, I just canceled my preorder today.

I put it towards my purchase of Uncharted. =P

I played the first couple of drum tracks about an hour ago. It was decent, but I was trying to be as quiet as possible.

...now if I stopped buying shit like Rock Band, I could afford a house, and then it wouldn't be an issue. I'm going Muppet Babies on that shit in the morning, though.

Do the drum sticks have the rock band logo on it? And are they attached to the drum set? Some demo units had the drum sticks attached to the drum set. Didn't know if they'd be attached in the full retail unit or not.

Yes, they have the logo on them.
No, they are not attached.

And my ankle is killing me from playing drums.

Your sticks have the RockBand logo on them? I got screwed! Mine are plain.

:\ I'm having some trouble with my Metallica DLC... Ride the Lightning sounds great but there's this strange crackling sound when I play Blackened... Does anyone else have this problem?

Wow the Gametrailers review of Rock Band really made me interested in this game. I guess when I finally buy a 360 that I'll purchase this instead of GH 3. I am only interested in the guitar playing aspects of it though, I don't like to sing and the drums will piss off my neighbors. Can we buy this title in piece meal?

Buy Guitar Hero 3 in order to get the wireless Les Paul, then buy the game-only version of Rock Band.

Amazon is has the PS3 bundle with the instruments in stock.
dammmmit, I can't choose between opening the ps3 bundle or the 360 one.....
Coin flip!!!

What's everybody sitting on to play the drums?

I have an office style chair in my gameroom, but I think the arms are going to get in the way.

Anybody have links to a cheap drum stool/throne?

Since I can't find this anywhere, I'm getting it from Amazon whenever the heck they get them back in stock. Just placed the order and of course I'll cancel it if I find it locally.
