Official Sears Clearance Thread II - post Sears finds/deals here

I appreciate that everyone tries to dress the issue up like we're doing Sears a favor or (as I have read about a million times now) that this is some cautionary tale over they're going to be bursting at the seams with unsold product if they don't do something quick, but lets just get to the real motive: we just want those crazy ridiculous clearance prices again. If this was a concern about old games stacking up, I think we would've seen this brought up during the thread's heyday, but only once the clearances stop do I see people making keen observations over how there's old copies of Madden 07 for $20. If it is (as many say) indeed more profitable to sell this stuff off on the cheap than to let it linger, well I have good news: you sir are a genius, because you have managed to tap into a business plan that even Walmart hasn't caught onto.

I think what everyone really wants is for Sears to be that "useful idiot" they once were that allowed us to make like bandits on their unchecked clearances... and let's be honest, "unchecked" is exactly what it was. I cannot think of a single other retailer that had such rapid and indiscriminate price drops, who else let Fallout GOTY drop to $15 as quickly as Sears did, or Metroid Prime Trilogy? Hell who lets their games, even when they are on clearance, drop down to $0.99?

To those people, I don't really know what to say except, well, sorry. It was good while it lasted, but what can you do? Complaining certainly isn't doing any favors... I doubt Sears is very sympathetic of people who poo-poo their store only until they can buy a game when its worthless to everyone involved with selling it, and bumping the thread with comments like "lol good luck trying to get rid of all this games" just makes you seem like a scornful old woman.
(a bunch of really insightful stuff)
I think we can take the training wheels of this CAG in Training. Well done!

On topic: I'll check my Sears-es this week and report back anything interesting.

The Truth :applause:

i went by my local sears today to see if they had any copies of punch out left. and they did so i asked guy to pull it out and price check it. he said ill look it up online and said it was 45.94 or something like that. i was like i want a price check on it i heard it was on sale. he was like where did u here that at. kept acting like a douche bag all the way to the register. when it rang up 34.95 he was like its on clearance and asked if i still wanted it. i was about to walk out but went ahead and got it. thought about returning it all the way home just cause of the guys attitude. might go back and get the last 2 copies or wait for them to drop more before doing that.

This entire post is full of truth.

That being said, the scornful old woman posts are simply due to sadness and venting that the Cheap Ass Gamer that we all used to know and love has now become this:

Thankfully, Amazon, Newegg, and eBay still exist.

Thank you for posting this. :)

Hmm, I tried to express my opinion on the situation through a satirical, completely appropriate and SFW image, but it has been very quickly deleted twice now (first time I thought I made an error in posting).

It looks like the mods here are paid by Sears Holdings Corporation as well.

[Note before you delete this as well, this is just as on-topic as Ilikecoldbeverages's post which also contains no new information on deals.]

Saw the following titles that stuck in my mind. Prices are estimates:

DS:
Professor Layton and the Curious Village $20
Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass $20
Castlevania Order of Ecclesia $17
Advance Wars Days of Ruin $20

I haven't been in Sears for a long time and don't plan on ever going back until the clearance goes back to the way it was. Honestly you couldn't convince me to buy most these games unless they are less then $5
The funny thing is that since so many of the games in the clearance bin at my Sears have been there for years and not moving at $19.99 at up that the plastic wrap on many of the copies is ripping from being stored and handled by customers for so long. My Sears used to have one clerance bin of games that would move pretty quickly; now they have several (around five) filled with the same games that have been there for years now (who the fuck is going to buy Madden 07 at this point?)
I've found so many games in the clearance bin with no shrink wrap at all. Some are lucky to still have discs inside, but alot of them have NO DISC. Guess people won't buy them at even $10 but would rather get a "5 finger discount". Most associates don't seem to care when I bring it to their attention.

They used to mummify the games at a couple Sears stores around here with clear packing tape to prevent people from getting games via 5 finger discount method. So it was a pain in the ass to get the game home and try to open it, only to realize you had to either cut or unwrap 5-10 layers of tape just to get to the shrinkwrap.

Anyone else noticing that the clearance prices are varying by store? I'm not taking marked and unmarked, I'm talking $31.97 at one place, and $33.97 at another place for the same title. I've been to a number of Sears since the drops and I've seen this on a variety of titles.

I haven't noticed because I haven't been in a Sears since they started the $2 a month BS. I know they miss me.

Are you scanning the items? They could just be behind at one store or haven't updated the tags.

Yes, I've checked and those are the scanned prices. I've seen numerous examples and I had bought some games at one location and then saw the lower price at another location and bought there to return the higher priced. Again, it goes both ways as some games were lower at each individual location, but not a flat % difference across the board. Maybe they have some formula to figure out the inventory and they reduce higher if the inventory is higher.

I thought I found something new when I saw Dragon Quest IV for 18.97, then I found this post from November. (I double checked, and it does ring up 18.97).

Shucks.
I can confirm Dragon Quest IV for DS for 9.97. Didnt see it listed on the front page though...
Lawnside, NJ:

Silent Hill Origins (PSP) $14.97
Jeanne d'Arc (PSP) $16.97
Dragon Quest IV (DS) $17.97
DJ Hero (Xbox 360 bundle) $19.97
Singularity (Xbox 360): $19.97
Persona 3 FES (PS2) $21.97

All remaining PSP games are on clearance at varying percentages.

saw a few interesting games at Sears today:

Boom Blox Bash Party (Wii) $13.97 (bought this)
Patapon 2 (PSP) $3.97 (bought this)
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles (Wii) $25.97
WarioWare: Smooth Moves (Wii) $25.97

These prices are bad. I got Resident Evil UC for $10 at Toys R Us (Got this and Kingdom Hearts 352/2 with 40% )

Not sure if its technically a deal, but i nabbed 2 Official Sony PSP 2000 replacement batteries for 1.97 each. (Have yet to replace the original battery on mine, so it was a pretty coincidental find)

Certainly not a bad price, that's for sure. I remember hearing 1000 batteries were more valuable nowadays.

Be careful with the PSP 2000 batteries at sears. When I worked there, all 4 of them that we had were defective, IE they leaked form being too old and were too fate to fit in the system

warioware is a pretty rare game... it's a good price if you're looking to buy or *cough* flip

stopped my sears tongiht to price a wii from BB

saw a huge bin of clearence stuff ...saw alot of stuff marked at $17 which is out of my price range

saw some good stuff though
Rockband 3 DS $9.97
Mercury Revolution WII $5.97
Chronicles of Riddick PS3 $12.97

YMMV but hayward, ca and fremont, ca both had DJ hero 1 bundle for 19.97..... matches best buy deal.. if going on family/friends night u get an extra 10% off.. making it just under 19.00 with tax

That's the proper clearance point for the DJ Hero 1 bundle. It should be that everywhere once they update the prices in the system.

yeah tags were not updated where posted, they showed 29.99.. i told the missus we would get it just cuz and it turns out it was 19.97 add in her discount, the FF 10% and the extra monies we had from using the rewards card, it came out to just over 6.50 for us.. i posted the 19.00 price point if you get it on their Friends family night and dont have a employee discount..

sometimes sears does have decent deals.. this was one of em!!! ( got a game shes enjoyign with me right now...) may go back for a second turn table for the fun of it.. and flip the game for cheap...

Yeah I found one of those for about $3.00. I didn't realize mine was defective until I brought it home. Opened the cardboard package to find the inner plastic packaging had a hole in it. The battery itself was bloated/fat. I considered trying to cut open the battery, but feared it might explode or something bad.

I left the battery somewhere and figured the two battery covers were good enough, at that price to not bother returning it. I probably should throw the battery away.

It looks like the YMMV is very much in effect. Between 3 stores I went to this weekend, Viva Pinata TiP rang up $2.97, $11.97 and $19.99.

My store has had a stack of Viva Pinata TiP at 19.99 for as long as I can remember. I dream of the day I can bash pinata goodness for under $10

I did talk to a manager about the YMMV prices and confirmed that they've altered the prices depending on inventory, so that explains that. I've seen such a variety of pricing I think across the board it's much more YMMV than it was in the past. For example I've seen Punchout as high as $36.97 and as low as $31.97, that's 15% more on the high end. The store that had a handful of them was $31.97 and the store that had 1 of them was $36.97, so it made sense.

:razz:I still miss the old non YMMV clearance pricing schedule. At least then you were certain that games would drop regularly and knew right when to check them. But if they're going by manager's discretion now then chances are we'll be seeing a ton of higher than they should be prices.

Although the closest Sears to me still had Wolfenstein for PS3 at $15 new when all of the other stores by me sold out of it at $5, so I guess the manager's discretion thing was already in effect to some extent.
So did we ever get an official list of the Sears February clearance drops, like we got for KMart?
Apparently you didnt read the post directly above yours.

No, because it varies by store now. Some stores might have one game on clearance while another store in the same state will have the same game for $30, even when price checking it on the scanner.

Hell, my store even slapped some generic-looking 14.99 "deal" stickers on some copies of Muramasa they must have found in the back over the winter.

Thanks, the only reason I asked was because the KMArt rep (Josh) mentioned specific titles would be clearanced by Sears in February. Just wondering if he has commented on it since then.

At the worst at least we have clearance pricing back at Sears. I stopped a few this past week and despite the high nature of the prices, the fact that the the xx.x7 pricing is back is fun.

The only thing at my store in the clearance bin that has actually been clearanced lately is Patapon 2, like many others have said. That's actually a really great deal and who cares if it's DL only? It's a pretty small download so not like it matters and I don't think it was ever released on UMD.

But the whole rest of the bin really isn't clearance, I mean there's a few things that are close but most is either at MRSP or at a lower price which is the new price at most stores. Might be over at the mall today so I'll check again...

I also hate checking the bin because they always have so many employees standing around doing nothing at the front of the store where the bin is... I always feel like they're mocking me. I mean the bin as been there since probably late last summer and only a few things in the bin ever were technically at a clearance price.
