Actually, it wasnt at EB, it was at a local Toy store...in wrapper and all...but I want the game for playing purposes, so should I buy this one for $30 NEW or the XBOX one for $10 USED
If its for playing purposes, then I'd go with the Xbox version because its $20 less and essentially the same game.

I haven't even bothered getting up for the update in over a week and a half, my credit card is happy, but I want more games! I might get up for the Monday update and give it one last shot, but I'm not expecting much.

I read that the xbox version of mgs2: substance has major slowdown issues. you can read it on gamespot or any other gaming site. i'd choose the ps2 version, imho.

just my $0.02

EB managed to pleasantly surprised me again. I wound up buying a preplayed N64 from EB, and much to my surprise it arrived with an expansion pack in it, instead of the standard jumper pack. Saved me $10 or so, based on the current eBay rate.

Copy of Kirby 64 initially looked like it wasn't going to boot up, but I did ye old blow-in-the-cart trick, and now it's running fine, too.

So while the updates lately haven't been as exciting as they were earlier, I'm still getting some use out of EB.

Just know that the only noticible slowdown is when you're outiside during the opening Tanker mission (which is less than an hour long, total). Its annoying, but you're outside during that for MAYBE 10 minutes, so its up to you whether that bit of slowdown is worth $20.

^ I kinda prefer the slowdown at that. Since you're outside in the heavy rain, it makes it feel like you're having to slosh through it. But yea, ten minutes out there is being generous. Probably half of that. Either way, it hardly makes a big difference.

Well there's the slowdown thing and the fact that the PS2 version has the skateboard mode which the XBox version doesn't.
I got my order the other day and when I opened my Lumines case, I saw Wipeout Pure in there. I took it to my local EB Games and the guy switched it out with a brand new copy (I bought a used one) since they didn't have any used copies.
That's fucked up. I had to return a Gameboy game that I purchased online because it didn't work, and the guy at the EB store wouldn't let me just switch it for the copy he had at the store, because I paid less for my copy than they were selling their's for.
I figured he just doesn't like me because I'm always having to return a few games; but hey, if they'd stop sending me broken stuff, I wouldn't have to return it.
looks like they're slowly transforming into Gamestop.
Um...no?

The merger isn't finished. EB and Gamestop aren't under the same management, and they won't be until early 2006 at the soonest so their plans for holiday distribution won't need to be rewritten in a hurry.

Any changes that happen now are entirely because of EB. Stores adjust prices all the time; if the prices go up a bit, so be it.
Copy of Kirby 64 initially looked like it wasn't going to boot up, but I did ye old blow-in-the-cart trick, and now it's running fine, too.
That's the absolute worse thing you can do to cartridges. It might work in the short term but what it's actually doing is putting moisture on the contacts which will eventually cause them to corode. Just clean your carts with alcohol and q-tips. And the higher the % of alcohol the better. I use 91% (instead of the normal 70%). It still is 9% water, but its much much better than using something that's 30% water.
How the @#$@ would you know........ are you on the EB/Gamestop merger board?
Simple: some of us like to keep ourselves informed and read gaming news once in a while. Back when the merger was first announced...

Upon its closing, the agreement will see the two companies merge operations under the GameStop banner, which will then fly over 3,200 stores in the US and 600 others in Europe and Australasia. However, to not disrupt plans for the 2005 holiday season, no changes will be made in either company's organization until 2006. Then, in mall locations where there is duplication in retail outlets, store closings will follow "when appropriate," according to a GameStop official.

No changes means that, for now, they're still seperate entities.

i always thought GS B&M always had better games then EB and better quality too. doesn't mean i hate not using my Edge card + a million discounts and free shipping online though.

This is just great, now where am i gonna get my atlus games from, i might have to start preordering at media play, which is gonna suck cause i dont know if they are reliable or not. Gamestop's preordering system is NOTORIOUSLY unreliable, and i have missed more than one game due to it, not to mention the 5$-10$ price hikes in games that they impose. I hope they do not change the EB games preordering system, since its very good right now, they put everything in the computer, and you are guaranteed to get your game unless the release gets cancelled or you preorder very late, like a day before release. I am concerned this merger is gonna take away ebgames cause its my favorite store and the only store i can rely on for preorders of rare games at retail price.

Also what is gonna happen if you preorder something at EBgames and it comes out in like january and your Ebgames changes to a gamestop?? Also what happens if you bought an edge card now, would it still be vaild a year from now or not? I need to know cause i do not want to lose money on a preorder or have a preorder not filled due to change of policy.

Also i really need suggestions on where to obtain games that might become hard to find such as atlus games, at release and for no more than the retail price, i do not want to be charged 5-10$ more just because i do not have a choice of stores anymore in my area.

Of course i have the standard target, walmart, kmart and media play, i know you can preorder anything you want at media play, but i dont know how reliable this would be for rare titles that have limited shipments. I do not have gamerush or gamecrazy in my city for immediate access.

hasn't gamestop always taken preorders for Atlus games?... and can't you just order them from online retailers and its cheaper than gas for shipping?.. you my friend are over reacting.

You honestly think they are telling the truth? It was just coincidence that they started jacking up the prices, right?

For the love of god, either wise up or stop posting. Almost everytime I read one of your posts, it's filled with the same, pure ignorance. Yes, the EB/GS merger is actually a government coverup. You, my friend, cracked the case.
You honestly think they are telling the truth? It was just coincidence that they started jacking up the prices, right?
Yes, actually.

There's this thing called supply and demand. If more people want a particular game, the price is going to go up a few dollars. Most of the games that have gone up are fairly popular titles (MGS, SOTN, La Pucelle), and if EB can make more money by raising the price a bit, so be it. They're in this to make a profit, and not to satisfy the every whim of message board posters with OCD.

And really, it's not like the entire library of used games has gone up in price. So far, it seems like a relatively small number of used titles, and we're bound to see increases when we have people watching the site as anally as they do here, checking every day to see if certain titles change in price or to see if they're in-stock.

If you think they're lying about when the merger will happen...well, you're just a fucking idiot. There's no benefit to them lying, especially not when they've got to keep stockholders happy, and I can't even begin to imagine why they would have.

yea i know im doing that. ive done it a bunch of times but it doesnt work for me now

You honestly think they are telling the truth? It was just coincidence that they started jacking up the prices, right?

Prices go up and down on used games. They go down a few bucks when no one is buying, and go up a few bucks when people are buying it.

I suggest one of those tinfoil hats to go with your suspicions. :D
yea i know im doing that. ive done it a bunch of times but it doesnt work for me now
You're not doing anything wrong, saver doesn't work for me either with that item (cag15 does). If you add a pre owned game, then saver should work.

Well you know, if the GS/EB merger wasn't happening everyone would be saying the same things like "eb sucks now they raised prices".. well obviously people were buying and figure hey lets charge a little bit more.. and games get harder and harder to come by the price goes higher ...

this happens with NES games.. sometimes they'll be 1.99 for a day or two then they go up to 4.99 because people were actually buying them.

I've noticed yet another game has gone up in price - Mario Party 4. It was previously $29.99 not too long ago, now its $34.99 used! Thats insane.

Yeah, was gonna mention that, but then I forgot which thread was most relevantly discussing the increases, so gave up. Luckily my friend secured a new copy for me for $20 from his Target not long ago.
To get back on topic, while not during the week came across this that I don't see too often:

http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/230061.asp (does say back ordered)
It looks like they are just going to gradually shift to the whole backorder thing . . . they haven't put up the whole catalog at once but as games are posted and sell.

This is likely to gradually kill the morning update concept.

Now, SMB GBA is available for back order . . . let's say 10 of us place a backorder for it now . . . I guess we'll be charged when it ships???

OK, lets say EB only gets 4 of these instock in the next 5 months . . . some of those who preorder today will get it and all the others will not get it. Anyone else seeing this game on the webpage in the next 5 months will get excited . . . only to have no chance of getting the game. And even those who do get it can't use the 15% code on it (at least so far). But everyone else backorders in vain. And there is no reason to ever check the website for games again . . .

Like GS, most will never be instock . . . just these cloudy queues with expected ship dates.

I hope I'm wrong about this.

Man, this just kills the whole EB.com experience!!!!!

fuck
Say it ain't so schultzed! I got Star Ocean: The Second Story for PS using this thread.
Well, if this continues (and it looks like policy now) the next time Star Ocean (or another game) comes into stock, we can have our little race for it and a little race to get on the preorder list as well. Unless they decide to throw everything not in stock into a back order system all at once (the mother of all updates).

So, Star Ocean comes in and a lucky CAGer gets it and then a few lucky CAGers get good slots on the backorder list and then all EB shoppers for then on, can enjoy the picture of it for the coming years.

The only good thing as a result from this is that you'll be able to see which local B&M EBs have the game in stock. It will help for the current generation games but for the old classic games where the B&M wouldn't have it anyway, it sucks.

Now if they could somehow make it where they show the game but would only let you place an order for it if it was in stock...hmmm.

Not really plausible I guess but it would be funny to see everyone refreshing just to hopefully see their game suddenly become "in stock" at 7:08 ET.

I hope eb doesnt change their system. This whole morning update thing gives me something to look forward to at work in the mornings. Its like a little game every day.

I agree, take for instance Killzone . . . I'm only willing to get it used for $13.50. With it on backorder, they may have enough orders and backorder orders coming in that it doesn't ever appear instock.

If the extra 15% off (Cag15 or pplay15) is never available for backorder . . . then I may as well buy instore. The new system is cool in that it shows that it is at my local . . . so I could pick it up for $16.20. But I want that extra $2.70 off.

Speaking of backorders, I had Broken Sword for the PSone backordered and just recieved this e-mail fgrom them

Dear EBgames.com Customer,

EBgames.com strives to fill all of the orders that we receive but once in a
while a product that is on backorder does not make it back onto our shelves.
This has happened with an item that you have on order. We will not be receiving
any more copies of PRE-PLAYED BROKEN SWORD PS . We have cancelled your order
for the product and your credit card will not be charged. If you have other
items on your order, those will remain on the order and shipped as soon as
possible.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to either reply to this
e-mail or give us a call at 877-432-9675.

We apologize for the inconvenience,
EBgames.com Customer Service

They suck

Actually backorder system isn't that bad IF they have it where you can get charged once your item is shipped, and they limit the amount of copies that you can buy at once. This way I can just place a order for all the games I want and eventually receive one by one. The only thingsi m not looking forward to are when they kill the 25% off pre played games and saver deals.

I hate to clog up a thread but I'm in a different time zone and confused. Shouldn't the update already have happened or happen soon? It's 3am Missouri time and I'm used to California time (4am).

Got the same email from them for a new GBC Mega Man game. Still had to pay to $.90 or whatever for the game that I had use for the free shipping. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose.

VVVV Oh shit, that's right! 2 hours forwards, not backwards. Well goodnight everybody.
