Old School Deal at GameCrazy- 3 for $15, ALL classic games 4/28-End of May

We got this memo today, apparently starting thursday (the 28th) ALL our used Product that is older than current generation (Xbox, PS2, GameCube, GBA, DS, PSP) Will be 3 for $15. Now I was pretty floored by this, considering gamecrazy doesn't ever do stuff like this. But I read the memo over several times and it mentioned no maximum price for the discount to take place, or any limitations. (although, most stores won't let you use the MVP discount on top of this deal)

It sounds as if you will simply be able to buy any 3 old generation games for $5 each, starting friday.

Now, I've got my hopes up for grabbing the Ogre Battle, Final Fantasy Chronicles, and Vagrant Story we have priced at $29.99 each for a measly $15, but I'm sure there's some catch which wasn't made entirely clear in the memo.

But if it's true.. I am gonna be buying so many PSOne games..

I'll try to keep you guys posted on this, cause if your GameCrazys have any rare/pricier old generation stuff you've been wanting, this could be a great deal.

Oh look, and me with the option to return Wrestlemania for $50 in store credit (since it doesn't work well on my XBox)!

KA-CHING! Oh my god, I'm going to load up so huge on this. Dreamcast and N64 games ahoy!

This is the best news EVER.

No. Life is not this good. There has to be a catch. There's no way it's any game. There's just no way. I'm going to go down in the morning and return WM or something and ask about it. I must have confirmation.

Yeah I'm thinking there HAS to be a catch. In my time working there, I've never even heard of a deal of this magnitude. There's always like 3 pages of catches and other limitations in any deal we have.

The only logic here I can see is if they're considering removing some of the classic stuff from their stores.. Or maybe our inventory of classic stuff is just getting out of hand and needs to be trimmed down.

That said, the memo specifically mentioned ringing instructions for doing the deal multiple times (6 for $30, etc) and said that it effectively makes our entire classic game inventory $5 each..

WHAT

yeah i'll be looking into this. thank you!

edit: oh man, though... there are gonna be a lot of people abusing this, I think. I hope word doesn't really get out for a while....

Yeah, there's a ton of games at my store still priced over $20. It's probably to clear space. My store had to take Dreamcast games completely off the floor and store them behind the counter.. now if people want a DC game, they hand them a printed list of their inventory.. my store's pretty packed, but I will definately be buying some Dreamcast and N64 games if this holds up.

I wonder if this applies for MVP discount as well, since there were no catches or limitations?

This is kinda bad though.. GameCrazy drops bonus days and now this price thing.. or maybe they're just competing with GameRush.. whatever. I only do business with GC unless it's a 2 for 1 Rhino trade, if something happens to my store, I don't know what I'd do! :(
if this works... EBAY HERE I COME!

sorry guys but i never play my ps one, n64, or dreamcast anymore :)
Why be an asshole when you could be nice and leave the games for someone who would actually play them? Not everyone has a current console - we got our PS2 last December - and for someone whose newest console is an N64, this is one of the few ways left for them to get their games cheaply.

Simple choice, really: be an asshole, or be nice?

I'm going to be checking my GameCrazy stores on Friday, because I'm worried about idiots like Gotchforce clearing out the stores before I can find something I want. Here's hoping that the deal is official, although this is much more believable than some of what's been posted here in the past.

CAG = no hope.

If this is in fact trie, then they'll be one hell of a battle at my GC, especially since they have BOTH suikoden I and 2, as well as tons of other rare PSOne games.

No way....but if it does happen, that a legendary-deal in the making.

Of course, it figures that I don't have one of these stores. Lucky me.

Hey I to work at gamecrazy and spoke with my DM who stated that theres no catch its simply to clean inventory. we recently had to send about a million classic games to new stores but since we are still overstocked at all locations, they just want to get rid of hem. especially to make space for new consoles like XB2 in the 4th quarter. only problem is, if you dont work there good luck because about half of the employees at my location ran to our classic bins and set aside what they desired as soon as the memo came. but it is an awesome deal which will probably never happen again so take advantage while you can.

I'd be happy enough if there are just a decent number of middle tier games...
to expect that you're going to cherry-pick the high value games is likely setting yourself up for disappointment (I'd bet the clerks would pull all of the high dollar games the moment this sale starts, and can you really blame them?)

If I can just turn of a couple games that were selling at 20 each prior to this sale, I'd be plenty happy. Of course, that viewpoint probably is a great deal easier to have when you already own a number of the titles people seem to be frothing at the mouth over.

*dances*

Paper Mario on N64, you shall be mine for $4.99 (hopefully)! If the employees didn't grab them all first.

It's a wonder how these game companies make any money....(except for their uninformed dumb customers)...why dont' they just put their old games up for auction....they'll get more value than $5. Seriously, these companies should hire some of us CAGers.

Floorspace itself is seen a comodity, and most store have a dollar figure placed on it as well. Likely, the way they see it, the longer these games stick around, the more it is going to cost them to store them, so they'd rather take a smaller profit on the sale and just move the titles than to have them just sit and take more floorspace/storage space, and end up costing them more in the long run.

This actually applies to a number of the EB sales on games as well...

As decent an idea as a auction type site would seem, lurknomore, you have to remember that you'd have to pay people to administer the site and auctions, and then package, ship, and complete the transfers of the games.
There would be a large up front cost, and the continuing cost to staff the venture.
More likely than not, they're probably better off walking away with a small profit than gambling on a venture like that.
doubtful, but good luck!
My store has three, along with three Harvest Moon 64's. I'm sure I can get one of each.

Wow, if this is true I really need to find a store near me. And hope that the ebay flippers don't get there first. Thanks for the post OP.

Well, looks like it's true..

I just want vagrant story, thats all our store has that's decent.

I'll need to check out my local GameCrazy then. I think I've been in there for a total of about 30 seconds. It would be cool to be able to pick up some PS1 and Dreamcast games I missed out on back in the day...and then never play them :(

It definitely sounds like a great deal. How is game crazy with condition? I hate getting scratched to hell PS1 games. Maybe I'll stick with a few N64 games if they aren't all fuck ed up with stickers.

It really depends on the store. We have a lot of PSOne product that's pretty scratched, but we have professional disc repair machines and if that doesn't help, we're good about giving refunds for defective stuff. I've used the disc repair lots of times and it always helps. Since we take in games without case or manual, you're also likely to find stuff without case or manual, especially for older games. But for $5, I'm going to just be getting the stuff I WANT to play, not to collect. I really want to play Vagrant Story, so that'll be one I'm getting.

A stupid question, but you don't need a Blockbuster member card to buy from GameCrazy, right? Also, what time do they open? 10:00AM? I can't wait for this! I've been to my GameCrazy once, so I have no idea what kinda stuff they have.

Well, GameCrazy is part of the Hollywood Video line of stores, so you definitely don't need to be a Blockbuster member. They'd most likely prefer you not to be. You don't need to be a Hollywood member to buy there either though.

Oh man, this'll be huge. I'm definitely going to at least 2, if not three, GCs this Friday. Paper Mario for $5, Super Metroid for $5, Super Mario Kart & Mario Kart 64 for $5, not to mention DC & PSOne games. Time to get working on a list!
I thought it didn't start until 4/29?
It doesn't. I'm going to try to set aside some games. I doubt that i'll have much luck.

Alot of the guys at gamecrazy are pretty cool. But most of the time i fill them in on the deals they have and are surprised when they actually do have it. There is nt much complete stuff there though, mostly all carts and disc. but i think i'll pick up the mario party's for n64 either way.they're priced at like 30 bucks each there, and i've been wanting to play them in forever.

Oh, regarding the condition of games, 99.9% of all N64, NES, SNES, and basically every cart based used game that they have is cart only. The manager actually told me that due to storage issues, they actually destroy all boxes and manuals. YMMV, of course, but mine tears up boxes and instructions.
Is there any chance of doing a return/rebuy at GameCrazy? I'm guessing not.
you mean buying a ton of games for 5 and hope they give you more then 5 back for them. If they are clearing them out for 5 i doubt they would even buy them back.

i was wondering why one of the gamecrazy here didnt have any ps1 games left it seems they send them to another store. i will probally still go up friday and see if i can find any RPGS

Nah, I actually meant buying three games that are $30 a piece today and then getting the difference back on Friday.

it would be my luck if i tried something like this either

A. their would be tons of games that wouldnt be on the list they wouldnt know until friday

B. they dont pm their items. I dont think they do PM cause i got one game off them a few months back and it fell 10 bucks the next day and they never offered it back ( when i saw the price 3 days later i was like MAN I just got that Weds when the price fell thursday and they didnt say a thing)

again if it is ALL GAMES good luck getting them cause im sure the workers will take all the good ones.

Wow...Maybe they wouldn't have so much excess inventory if they didn't tear up the instruction manual.
Boxes are one thing, at least if they're those paper boxes; and certainly they may get a lot of trade-ins that don't have instructions, but it doesn't seem to make much sense to purposefully destroy something that adds value to the game.

I actually have a GameCrazy somewhat near me--not near enough to be 'on the way' , but near enough to drive out to for a sale. Last time I was there I don't remember any super deals/selection jumping out at me, but it's worth a shot.

It is all games and no we don't price match our own prices. As in, if you buy it today, you won't get money back to match to the friday deal price.

you could try buying them today, returning them friday, and then buying them again, but I don't think any manager or employee would be comfortable with that.

Thanks for the heads up OP. I never bother to check before since I figured there wouldn't be a gamecrazy near me but I just learned there's one literally 4 mins away from where I live! Definitely will check it out this Friday.

We don't have enough room in our stores to keep cardboard boxes for everything. Even if we tried to keep the boxes, they'd just end up being crushed or crammed into way too little space because the space would be so limited anyway. We just don't have the room in the stores to store the boxes or keep them in good condition if they were stored. It's also not cost effective to have all these cardboard boxes taking up space that could be used for newer product that is more likely to sell.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'm not entirely comfortable with it myself, but if GameCrazy corporate was ok with giving a customer the lower price then I'd probably try it.

Wow. I'm guessing the employees will snatch up everything worthwhile, but this will definiltey mean a trip out to GC on Friday.
