These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2) *Fat unit requires either back cover or network adapter*
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

I feel like that's the way it comes up on the registers at my local stores, also. I have never watched, but I know I've asked what the values were (or maybe what the total was) and the response was "I can't see that until you sign."

Really interested to hear more about the min requirements for tiers.

it could also be the POS system (and lack of overall familiarity with it?) - i dont know if all GS locations use identical systems, but I went in and had them quote me the TIV on 3 games yesterday, then had them check the base TIV on 2 additional games, before having them add these 2 games to the trade transaction to see the TIV (w/ 5/$20 bonus) total, at which point, i said - yeah, that looks good. I signed, and only then was the trade finalized.

Granted, store wasnt busy (i wouldnt do multiple scenarios if they were) - but they def had the capacity to give me the quote using multiple variations and gave me the chance to confirm before finalizing.

it could be the CSR doesnt know the system well enough to do this, maybe not all systems nationwide can do this, or maybe the folks you encountered just dont wanna mess with it, but it's this kind of service that causes me to trade some of my games there (i.e. low hassle, maxing my trade) rather than mess with half or amazon for everything (I still send high value games to AMZ, but use GS when bonuses warrant the effort)

weird about the GRFS 30% not being at your local. I stopped by mine last night, and they still had the big signs up advertising it. the 5/$20 deal was better for me than the 30%, but i'm pretty sure it was still active (given the signage)
 
Yeah, even called another store and they were having it.

The funny part is this store had the most GRFS pre-orders in the district. Maybe they cut them off from the promo because they were losing too much? XD

What's the deal with dragon age origins? I saw high base TIV like this post a while back. I traded it in during the 50% promo and got $2 for mine. Was it the ultimate Ed you traded?

Fluctuating values maybe? Star Ocean Last Hope appears to have went up too. Noticed it in some past deals too, games would be marked with 3 or 4 TIV's from a few weeks before, yet i'd get 8$+ instore for them.

Looks like I'm gonna trade in to Gamestop for the first time in over 18 months. 7/$35 is pretty awesome for a lot of these titles I have with a low value. Should be able to average 10 bucks per game.

Website and scan code at GameStop says $3, however the system will accept $2 as the minimum.
 
So am I literally the only one who had the $5 requirement placed on them? Has anyone else looked at their flyer in store? I should take a photo of it, i still have it. It clearly says $35 bonus has a $5 minimum TIV.
 
yeah i hadnt traded in any games to gamestop since batman ac was going $10->23 few months back. i got rid of a bunch of ps2 games that i have hd collections of now so i guess this was a good time to flip some. i kinda feel bad getting rid of perfect condition silent hill 3, zone of enders 2, etc but i know im not gonna play them so yeah no loss...

Anybody else see a bunch of used camouflage dual shock 3 controllers? I saw a store with 3used ones that all look unused. I was hoping they were some kind of used conversion. This has been one of the best promos in a long time. My closet and wallet (gs card ) are happy. I had paid in cash during the last b2g1 sale which hadn't happened in years.

I went in with 21 games and I had to do 3 separate transactions. The system did 7/35, then 4/20, then 3/10. Couldnt get it to work with all in the same transaction.
 
Lol, the guy I traded in to was pretty angry at me since I didn't want to reserve anything. Gave me an "are you stupid" look when I told him I did no want to reserve Arkham City GOTY because I get the super awesome Live avatar batman suit. But otherwise, the transaction went smooth. He did slap a refurb fee on Lost Odyssey for .75 and neglected to tell me and when I asked he said one of the discs was scratched up.

Anyways, here is base and in parentheses promo + 10% for powerup.

Some stores might not let you do multiple transactions if u have all the games in the store at once if u don't preorder or buy a PUR Pro card b/c that will hurt the employees numbers.

I guess it is preorders per transaction or some such nonsense. Idiotic...

I did get somewhat hosed by a clerk the other day but it was an accident. Of course I still had like 41 days left on my PUR so I didn't want to renew it yet - mostly because I don't want the B2G1 coupon until the last possible minute since they don't last that long (as discussed earlier). But the guy apparently hit 'yes' when I said 'no'. They were going to undo it but apparently that required redoing the entire transaction and it took long enough for him to get through the 7 games and I didn't have any more time. So I just said to forget it and do the renewal. I was slightly annoyed only because of the coupon. Though even then I didn't know it was just like 2 months. I would have definitely waited till June to get it if I knew that.

It was also my intention to "reward" one of the better clerks with my PUR renewal. Now I ended up giving it to some incompetant newbie dufus who I've never seen before. So that kind of sucks too ;).

I did get somewhat hosed by a clerk the other day but it was an accident. Of course I still had like 41 days left on my PUR so I didn't want to renew it yet - mostly because I don't want the B2G1 coupon until the last possible minute since they don't last that long (as discussed earlier). But the guy apparently hit 'yes' when I said 'no'. They were going to undo it but apparently that required redoing the entire transaction and it took long enough for him to get through the 7 games and I didn't have any more time. So I just said to forget it and do the renewal. I was slightly annoyed only because of the coupon. Though even then I didn't know it was just like 2 months. I would have definitely waited till June to get it if I knew that.

its odd. cooperate policies rarely reflect what customers want. i never quite understand how this is the case so often. when i worked at a grocery store when our district managers came by we have to follow cooperate policy this almost always meant we did our job slower. or had to waste time cleaning even though cleaning did nothing really. we had a similar thing. they hated us using our store MVP(discount card) and tracked everytime the store one was used.

they then started after we got around that tracking the throwaway cards(ones customers should use to sign up for we would trash after one use) so eventually it often times turned into bug the customers in line and see which one had an MVP card because you know this was worth all the effort they put into tracking it not finding out why sales kept going down and down and now that store is out of business. probably cause they got a store manager that followed company policy to the letter.

and i didnt know those coupons expired. good to know for when i do renew. i think my pur expires in june or july.
 
Managed to find a handful of gamecube/wii games I didnt even know I had. Most of the discs have light scratches on them and the listing on the 1st page isnt up to date obviously on the gamecube titles so itll be a long shot but hopefully I can get some use out of them. I shall test the waters tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure Gamestop doesn't take Gamecube games anymore. They're actually trying to clear out existing store inventory as it is.

Gamestop stopped taking Gamecube games on April 1st, so yeah those won't do you any good unfortunately.
