These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2) *Fat unit requires either back cover or network adapter*
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Am I the only one that is holding on to Batman: AC? Is the game bad or something? Seems like everyone is just flipping it. Yes I know that you are turning $10 into $28.50, but when will you ever get a chance to buy Batman: AC for $10 again?

Be sure to take out the Novellas! They don't have to have those.

The PS3 Batman gets $1/$1.50 with bonus included...extra over the Xbox version.

I bought 1 today to keep but I already flip about 5 copies including my own copy that I bought at launch. I already finish the story and it is a great game that's why I wanna keep one for my collection.

BM: AC is one of the top 3 games released last year IMO. I decided to trade mine from my collection and wait for the inevitable "Game of the Year Edition". By the time that comes out the vanilla version will probably have a value below $10 especially since everyone and their mom traded it in at least once. Also, I'm pretty sure the people flipping it already own a copy or played/beaten it already.
 
I had bought alone in the dark, ssfiv arcade, enslaved, and bionic commando for 46 a few days ago with the trade of MLB 12 and saints row 3 (had 38 left over.: Went ahead and returned those, flipped arkham city (x2), and ffxiii-2 and I got. Asscreed revelations, fifa 12, twisted metal, soul calibur v, gta. Complete, and red dead gotyand I still have 28 left over. God bless these deals LOL.

You will get $0. Most IF not ALL GS' close by 6P.M. The remaining few close at 7P.M.
You don't need to be a pur member to get the 50% tiv but you won't get 10% bonus if you are not a paying pur member.

You can have the money put on a giftcard or a pur card. Advantages to both.

Can't believe the B:AC flip had a round 2! Did two at each store and at one of them they make you show receipts if you have more than one of the same game and he just looked at me when he seen how much I paid vs how much credit I was getting. Awesome. Got WNC2 and some leftover credit for the B2G1!

I traded in 2 copies of B:AC. One for PS3 and one for the 360. The guy at the counter says $37. I tell him the 50% bonus ends today. He tells me they made me take down the signs last night and the promo is over. I threaten to walk out and another guy comes over says it should total up. Hits a button and the extra 50% shows up. The original guy then tells me well it wasn't working this morning. I then use the credit to buy MLB The Show 12. He takes my charge and tells me it was declined. When I just used it 5 minutes before. I tell him to do it again and he tells me once its declined I can't do it again. So I pay cash and couldn't wait to leave that store. I rarely flip or trade in games there and now I remembered why.
 
Oh, also... serious question/fun story.

I did some Batman trades today, and afterward decided to look around. That's when I saw Mass Effect 3, and realized/remembered that it was on sale for $50. I had purchased three copies on launch day - on March 6th. Unfortunately, though, I only have two receipts left. Anyway, though; I asked the girl if I could do a price adjustment, and as I expected, she said no.

So, in a polite but questioning manner, I ask why that makes sense, because I can just buy it for $50 and return with my old receipt for $60. And immediately, she tells me that's "ILLEGAL". :bouncy: El Oh El. I tell her I'm certain that's not the case at all; and furthermore, every reputable retailer has a 30 Day Price Guarantee exactly because I could do just this. Anyway, she's difficult and tells me that's not a "very smart thing to do" and that "it's kind of sneaky."

Anyway, I buy two copies from her, and tell her I'm sure one of the 10 GS within 15 miles will let me return them.

So, I go to my local store, return with the old receipt no problem. Wippee.

But seriously, here's the best part, and the brunt of my question. I paid with store credit. At least ~90% credit. I covered the remaining ~$4 or so on each game with cash. In past experiences, they've given me my return in the form of payment that I made. I expected him to either put the entire amount on a GC, or most on a GC and put a few dollars back on my credit card.

*BUT HE GAVE ME ALL CASH*. Not only that, but because I didn't get taxed for using store credit; but would have with cash; he actually gave me MORE back in cash than I actually spent (with the credit). I got tax back that I never paid for.

So... what happened? This can't possibly be standard procedure, can it? Because if it is, I know how I'm offloading my credit, now. :hot:

Traded today:

B:AC :ps3: $19
B:AC :360: $18
Singularity :ps3: $3

Ended up getting devil may cry hd collection and after much haggling from the gamestop rep signing up for pur rewards membership as well.

All in all, took $21 from BB purchases and turned them into a dmc hd collection and a pur rewards membership with $4 bucks to spare. Not to shabby indeed :lol:

also I thought trade credit only negates tax if the full taxable amount is paid in credit.

That's exactly what happened to me, the guy behind the counter wouldn't take no for an answer for the PUR membership so I just caved in and bought one.

So I went back in to trade in 5 games (3 for the $10 promo, 2 for the 50%), 2 of the 3 games ended up being below $2 (figures) and then they didn't take Mass Effect 2 cause the bottom security sticker was still on the case. So I grabbed my games and walked out.

Yea, that's one of the main reasons why i dont do much trading/buying form gamestop but oh wells, the timing justified it this time around.

But seriously, here's the best part, and the brunt of my question. I paid with store credit. At least ~90% credit. I covered the remaining ~$4 or so on each game with cash. In past experiences, they've given me my return in the form of payment that I made. I expected him to either put the entire amount on a GC, or most on a GC and put a few dollars back on my credit card.

*BUT HE GAVE ME ALL CASH*. Not only that, but because I didn't get taxed for using store credit; but would have with cash; he actually gave me MORE back in cash than I actually spent (with the credit). I got tax back that I never paid for.

So... what happened? This can't possibly be standard procedure, can it? Because if it is, I know how I'm offloading my credit, now. :hot:[/QUOTE]

I had similar experiences with returns bought with credit. For some reason they return the credit but are forced to pay the tax back in cash. I'm sure your case works in the same manner. It's a glitch because I can never get a straight answer why it happens.

i myself am going to wait until they come out with an edition that has all of the dlc on it before i get it again. it'll probably be sub $30 by the fall.

All in all I walked out with 160 in gamestop credit after PUR and 50%. I roughly caluclated up how much I paid for the games and because of some previos B2G1 deals and some stuff from black friday (LBP 2 and RaC being free from buying my PS3 and getting me over 40 :) ) and I broke just about even on this stuff. Maybe a 20 dollar difference depending on how much Reach was. I went to Best Buy and re bought Rage and B:AC because I havent finished them but got them for 15 bucks. Keep the deals rolling
 
hope everyone got there last trade-ins for today with the 50% bonus. tomorrow will probably see most games the TIVs like B:AC and FFXIII-2 tank.

Big Bro asked me to get AC:R for him and he only wanted it to play it for the day so I rushed back to to Gamestop before it could close and traded it in so I could get the 50% promo. Ended up getting more then what I paid for weirdly enough.

Mmm, now I have $58.50 for the B2G1 free pre-owned game thing on Wednesday.

That's not bad.
