These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2) *Fat unit requires either back cover or network adapter*
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

No the 10% doesn't stack with consoles, rookie mistake on my part haha.

Bah, I really wish that it would stack. If it was slightly less than a $100 upgrade I could do it.. Looks like I just won't be online for a while!
 
PUR Pro NEVER stacks on hardware trade-in, just games and accessories. Sucks you missed it in March when there was a coupon that stacked on top of the $50 offer and people like me got $140 for their old 360.
 
Yeah, if the 30% stacked with the $50 Steal of the Week Promo that would have been awesome. Especially paired up with the whole $50 off PS3s and the free game deal they just had.

I didn't miss it. I had two 360s and sold one of mine during that time. Now the one I decided to keep is giving me issues and the ethernet port is busted. I should have just traded this one in instead!

Wii never had a $50 bonus. It was only $20 if I remember correctly and they cut that off a month or so before the $50 extra on PS360 ended so for the last month Wii had no trade-in bonus at all.

This is probably a YMMV but I was told at one store that I traded at, that all of the credit had to go to the preowned game. The guy there said it was a new policy in an email they received this week. So I wouldn't necessarily say it's a guarantee as I've been able to put the extra credit on my GC at all of the GS I've been to up until now.

It's YMMV. I let people buy $0.49 games to get the bonus and let them use whatever is left on whatever they want.

Figures. Now to drive 10 miles to the store where I traded it. On another note, does/did GameStop ever have any promotions for extra credit on accessories (controllers, etc.) or just their PUR Pro 10% bonus?
 
I did the 50% extra TI thing and bought as .99 cent game. I traded my games and the girl at the counter kept the PS2 disk?? Is it supposed to be like that? LOL not that it matters but I was like "not worth fighting a pos .99 cent game".

Hmm, I traded in AC:R for 360 (@$14.00)
and used about half the credit on a stack of 12 PS2 games.

So no problem with the left over credit for me from the trade-in promo.

It might not be worth it to drive back for $6. You did 10 miles back from the store that day, 10 miles there to dispute it, and 10 miles back. That's 30 miles, and assuming it's not all highway driving, probably 20ish minutes each time (assuming 30MPH zones.) So now you're looking at an hour wasted, plus the cost of 30 miles worth of gas.

Well the only Target close to me that does game trade ins is on the way plus I needed to pick up some stuff from the Fry's store which is a bit further away but still along the way so the trips weren't too inconvenient.

83 bucks is insane in a way for a wii trade in since there is talk its almost a 100% chance the

Wii is falling to 99 at e3

ps3 199 sometime in the summer ?
Vita is getting 2 pack in games but staying at 299 coming in late summer early fall
3ds falling to 129 this fall /winter or new color with packin game
DSI XL is staying at the same price but getting new colors with the new pokemon 2 games


now to see how much really comes down

no price cut on 360 what is really really werid and doubtful if everyone else is falling

I know Gamestop doesn't want you trading in two of the same game, but what if they are for different consoles? I was given a new (gutted and from GS I assume since it had all the DLC codes but wasn't wrapped) copy of a game I already had for a gift and the people who gave it to me don't have the receipt anymore. I was planning on trading in the other console version anyway and with the 50% trade in thing I could get decent value. Don't want to raise any flags though and could just take it to another store if needed I guess, but would prefer to save gas.

It's not like you stole that game, so there shouldn't be a problem.

I just traded in 2 Mass Effect 3s for a PS3 and 360. No such trouble given to me.

Most of the time they don't care, if anything they do ask just say you played on both consoles for the achievements and are done with them.

It was so weird like I saw her dump it beneath the counter. I was not sure if she had to keep that used game if I did the trade in. Well I ain't mad. The game was some weird ps2 game worth .89 cents with PUR card so after trading in lBP2 and Little Deviants I ended with $37 credit for my account.

I think she might of been mad at me since I did cancel my AC3 pre order that had like $50 credit towards it. I felt bad and didn't outright cancel and keep a $5 deposit on it, rest went to my Pur account. Is it true they lose "points" if people cancel pre orders from the store?

Most of the time, people don't want the game, so I usually just throw it away.

As for canceling/taking money off pre-orders, yes you'll lose some points, because it's a refund. But if you go in and pick up the game when it comes out, you'll get those points back.

Good old GS! They just totally NUKED all of the ipod/iphone/ipad trade values. I'm talking between 50 to 35% drop in all values across the board!
There goes all the ipod touch flips. That was the best kept secret in GS trades for the last 4 or 5 months that most of you didn't know about

The iPod Touch definitely did, but I think some of the others (iPad and Nano at least) have stayed steady. The 4th Gen. 8GB went from $110 base to $84 in a day.
 
Looking like a few dips from what was listed on CAG, at least at my GS.

:360:

ME2 - $8 -$12.80 after the 50% on Used offer
Sonic Generations - $9 - $14.40 after the 50% (super weak, thought it would net me around $24)

:ps3:

Dragon Age: Origins - $2 - $3.20 after the 50% (again, I think I read that this was $8 as well, so was expecting around $13)

All of these are with another 10% from PUR as well.

Still, not terrible, but not quite as great as I had hoped. Figured I would walk away with about $51 instead of $31, but I guess it will work next time there is a B2G1 Used or something for some older games I missed.
 
The only thing new I traded in was Just Dance 3 (360) @$15.00

Assassin's Creed: Revelations (PS3) $15 and (360) $14 still.
Mortal Kombat: Komplete (PS3) is still $18
and Left 4 Dead 2 is still $15
