These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?

Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60.

No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Do I have to bring usb cables for each dualshock 3 (like I had to for the bluetooth headset)? If so, this requirement is ridiculous since all of the the dualshock 3 bundles, navigation, and move controllers I've bought over the years never came with a single usb cable. I only have the single long cable that came with my ps3 system. The chargestation I have for move/nav controllers doesn't use the micro to reg. usb cable either.

You could check your receipt to see what they rang them in as. If they rang in as Sixaxis then you have a reason to go back. If they were input as Dualshock 3 and you go back for nothing you'll be even more ticked off. It would be prudent to check your receipt before going.

Maybe I should clarify - I did not trade the controllers in. Since I am an informed CAG I knew I should be getting $42 for each, so being told $39.60 total was a joke. I said no thanks. Just annoying that I have to go back, and that I will have to wait to put my preorder down because I am not making extra trips until I have to go back to that shopping center. Not going to waste gas money. I should be safe though, I'm sure it won't be a problem getting a copy of Mario on launch day.

Pulled the trigger on the $150 trade in for my PS3 slim towards Wii U, which is now about half paid off. Was going to put games towards New Super Mario Bros. U, but with Best Buy's 100% trade in bonus, I got twice as much from them than Gamestop. NSMBU is fully paid for with the gift card I got.

Go back today with receipt and they should be able to fix it. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to fix.

Would like to unload NBA 2K12 before 2K13 kills its value and I pick up 2K13.

EDIT: Killing me that there's not a power trade for DoA5. Absolutely 0 deals on that game at all. No stores even kicking a $5 GC. Killing me.

Theres no minimum on the percent trades.Only on trades for more money,like 3 for $10 etc.

That's what I did, but that promo ended yesterday. I did it Saturday and the flyers for the promo were already taken down and the dude that took my trade didn't even know anything about it.

Hmm, might be the right time to trade in that DS Lite. Can't imagine getting more than $40 for it, and with my new 3DS XL and my old GBA I don't really need it. Would be good to have if I get Pokemon White 2 though, I guess, so I can trade and transfer between my old games and the new one. Hmm...

You need to have a stylus to trade in, so you'd have to buy one.
 
So is that for any PS3 model? (Edit: yes, any model according to the GS trade-in promo page). I have a phat 160GB that I wouldn't mind upgrading to the super-slim. If I can get $135 for it that's not too bad. But then you probably have to trade a controller with that, right? That right there is worth $42 on its own (with the 30% promo) so really the PS3 is only worth $93.

Guys I want to trade in my old fat PS3, but I have some questions, could you help me please so tomorrow I can go to Gamestop?
My questions are:

1. Do I need the box? (I am not sure if I still have it since I have had the console for about 3 years).

2. The controller needs to have a visible bar code? I have 4 controllers and even the newest one has the bar code erased (not visible). I guess it happens to all controllers.

2a. Does it need to be in good condition? I have four and all of them work, but the L3 in one of them does not work, Do you know if Gamestop would take it?

3.Do I need to give them my HDMI cable or the one with the three colors is fine? (I still have that cable I can't believe it!)

4. Can I trade it in for a PS3 Slim?

5. Do you recommend me trading it in for the PS3 super slim instead? (If yes, please tell me why).

I noticed that all of my Dual Shock 3's had very faded bar codes. I now put scotch tape over those so they don't get rubbed off. I would suggest all PS3 owners do that since GS had (and still has) that $42 trade-in deal for them ($30 + PUR + 30% with certain preorders) and it would probably be a good idea to keep those barcodes intact going forward. Mine were nearly completely faded but they still took them. They even took one where the entire label (that bar code is actually just a sticker) came off and I had just retaped it back on. I'm glad I saw it in the middle of the carpet one day when the kids were playing. Needless to say that was our most abused controller so I traded it in (still worked just fine of course).

Well, I plan to do the trade for the super slim. One reason is that you get $10 extra for the trade-in that way ($135 instead of $125). And you might as well get the latest and greatest. In that case, the trade-in covers exactly half the new system price. That isn't too bad since you will get a brand new controller to replace a (presumably) old one, the newer system with (also, presumably) more storage space, and Uncharted 3 Game of the Year Edition. I wouldn't trade my newer slim in for that deal, but the older one, sure. From what I understand the fat PS3's have some reliability issues (not anything like original 360 models of course). Plus the thing is a freaking furnace - it would be nice to have somethimg with less heat output (and less power usage).

The only problem is that you cannot do a system transfer if you trade one for the other. The way I understand it, you need to have them connected via an Ethernet cable (this is what the on screen instructions told me when I selected the transfer option). Tonight I did a "backup" of my fat system, but non-copyable saves will not be moved that way from what I understand if you restore to a new system (however, that is the method to use if you are upgrading the HD like I did on my other PS3).

I have PS+ so it isn't an issue for me (though I will have to see if I can upload my Afrika save as it was too big to upload before but I think they increased the online storage just recently). However my son has several locked saves for games he is currently playing like Fat Princess and Monopoly Streets. So since I can't do the system transfer properly (as I need to turn in the old system to get the new one) I guess I'll have to spring for a temporary PS+ membership for him. I was hoping they sold 1 month but apparently not and $18 for a 3-month is overkill. I know there are 1-month codes out there - anyone here have one I could buy/trade for? $18 just seems like a lot to keep a few game saves for a 9 year-old ;).

Damn - just read that the new system has a 30-day trial (ie, a one-month code) for PS+ included. If only I could get that before I traded for it ;). So, yeah, if anyone has one of those already I could borrow that and then give them the one I get with the new system. Anyone?

Locked saves can only be moves via ethernet cable method.
 
Quick questions.

Is the vita trade in deal any good ($100 for vita)?
Does it give me the same value regardless of the model (I have the 3g / wifi model)?
Do I need just the vita and the AC/adapter for trade in (did not see it listed in JPs FAQ)?
Do I get an extra 30% power trade bonus for preordering a select game?

I'd think that $100 is pretty insulting, unless you'll sell it to me for $100, then it's a good deal. I doubt the 30% bonus works, since this trade value bump seems to be a promo itself, and as we know, promos don't stack.
 
well the thing one must consider when gamestop considers TIV especially for systems is im sure they get a ton of systems that can play for 20 minutes and then crash or other jerry rigged systems. you know so they have to probably factor that into it plus convience so maybe 100 dollars isnt a lot but for every good vita they get they probably get 5 half way beat up ones and 4 that either dont work at all and have to be refurbished or work for 15 minutes and then crash thus resulting in a customer buying it thinking it is good coming back an hour later and raising hell.
