These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60.

No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

I was thinking of trading in my 4 y/o 80GB phat PS3 for $180 and waiting til Black Friday to buy a new PS3 (GS had a $200 PS3 deal last year so I'm hoping for a $200-$230 deal this year)

If I want to hold on to the $180 as trade in credit, do I need to get the $15 pro membership or can I just get the free one? My state doesn't tax on trade in credit so I want to make sure the $180 stays tax free for a future purchase (I know if I have them put it on a gift card then I'll be hit with tax later on)

Also have a 4GB phat 360 arcade that I usually play on, but not sure if the $110 credit is worth it for that -- if I wait til Thanksgiving then I'll be without a console for 2 months but a $40 upgrade would be nice (GS had a $150 Xbox deal last year so hoping for something similar)

So am I reading this wrong or is the guy at GS being douchy? On the 30% extra trade in towards pre order game, it says 'items' but the guy said its just games...he wouldnt even look at the system for me since my trade was processed when I went in the other day. So is it just games or can you trade in accessories as well for the extra 30%?

The power trade 30% is supposed to include everything. There was a promo code posted a week or so ago. I will try to find it again. They had to find the barcode in some marketing pack at my GS.

actually the store manager at my local store showed me the wording for the promotion (it was updated since it started) and it now only says games not all items. but from what people are reporting, it's working on all items still.

If you go on the website it says it includes any item INCLUDING accessories on any of the new releases. So even if they update it in their books, they'd still have to take what the website at face value since that's what consumers are privy to.

but when you click on the promo, the banner says games hardware accessories etc etc, i'm gonna go back after that guy gets off haha try to get another worker and get my 30% dangit, this is on principle

Did you already trade it? When I worked there it was a pretty rare occurance to give the extra on something if you've already sold the item.
 
yes I traded it in already but I have the receipts and it was on monday. I will ask them for my controller back and cancel my pre order if they deny me, its just principle I hate it when people straight up lie to my face like that or are too lazy to even look.
 
I know this may be YMMV, but when you trade in a controller, how intensely do they look at it? Like do they just take a quick glance at it or do they really inspect it. Because both controllers have a small chip in the battery pack holder. Also, one has a lb button kinda stuck and one part of the dpad does not work. Also, Is the refub also $5?

The guy I traded my system into pushed all the controller buttons for like 2 minutes...

If they refuse to make it right, ask for the district manager's information and also do that survey on the receipt. Bad surveys are one thing they don't mess around with.

Late Sunday night I traded in my 40GB PS3 for $125. I was upset to find out that just 10 hours later the promo changed the way it did. I just got back from GameStop & after spending over an hour waiting around for the store manager to make a bunch of phone calls & figure out how to sort things out on their computer system I finally got $160 in trade-in credit.

I asked why my 40GB wasn't getting $180 in store credit & he showed me their base price list. Turns out the 40GB's base trade-in credit price is *$80 (not $60, that was a typo). So, ALL systems do NOT have the same base price.

How did you get $160 then? Am I missing something?
 
Quick question, I was going to trade in KH 3D and MK7 for the 2 for $40 deal, as well some other games. Will I still be able to get the $40 or would I have to do the trade in separately?

Gamestop employee charged me a $25 refurb fee for my xbox because there was an "M" in sharpie on the bottom corner as big as this font, and my controller was dirty. Nerd. Dude is lucky I had been drinking and didnt really care at the time...
 
Does anyone have an update on kinect trade in? The one in the op is from months ago. Debating on trading in my old arcade with 20gb hd, and kinect to pick up a slim from cowboom that comes with a kinect.

I tried to trade in a logitech rumblepad 2 instead of the dualshock 3 but I was refused. Had to trade in a dualshock 3 and usb cabe w/ the system for them to finally give me the $180.
 
For the 30% preorder power trade, what happens to the bonus trade in credit if you have slightly more trade in credit than the game you're preordering?

Lets say I trade in 2 controllers and the total trade in w/ bonus comes out to $65, but the game is only $60 -- do they allow keeping the $5 as trade credit or will they reduce the $5 by 30% (giving only 30% up to the purchase amount)?

You keep the credit. The company is bad, but they aren't THAT bad.

You would have to put the money towards your existing pre-order. That should be fine unless you get Capt. Retail and he/she wants to be a PITA

Perhaps. I only traded them in because of the 30% additional toward pre-order of White 2. Though the closest BBs to be are all 40 minutes away which equates to a bunch of gas money and the base TIV for SSX is $4 (so about .50 more than I got from GS after the promo if the base is doubled) and $5 for NBA 2K12 (so about $2.50 less than I got from GS after the promo if the base is doubled). Plus I had about $214 in GS credit (down to about $197 now after paying off the rest of White 2) so such little BB credit doesn't help me.

Had planned on going to BB, but couldn't pre-order 2K13 for In Store pick up and didn't want to hold them until I'm in the area next week to pick up Dishonored, so GS made sense. It was only a bummer because, looking at last reported values (and not knowing about the SSX sale that his that game's value) I figured I would only owe about $7 or $8 for White 2 and not closer to the $15 that I needed and that put me under $200 GS credit.

Little late to this thread, but question regarding the 2x trade in for hardware

Can I walk in there with my 3DS (which was getting 100 towards a 3DS XL trade) and get 200?

That can't be right, right?
 
I have a question, the Power Up Rewards steal of the week is 50% extra trade in credit when trading in games towards RE6 or Pokemon White/Black 2.

Does this stack with the 10% PUR bonus? As in it will become 60% extra trade in credit total? And lastly, if I trade in games in excess of the value of the game will I still get the bonus? I don't care about any of those games and I wanted to trade in like 8 games and use that towards Wii U stuff.
