These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60.

No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Weird, my store they tested both that and the PS3 I brought in, like tothe point where they played something on them for 5 minutes and made sure there were stickers.

For me they:

1. Took the faceplate off to check for the sticker
2. Hooked it up to test if it turns on
3. Checked that a game could be read and played
4. Checked to see if the controller worked

Well 2 days days earlier I brought in a PS3 that was pretty flawless for being 5 years old so maybe he was giving me the benefit of the doubt. I was surprised also. The guy is pretty cool but I sometime wonder if he is clinically depressed. Some days I go in and he talks to you and other days he just acts like he wants nothing to do with his job or his life.

Very easy to be incredibly depressed when you work for GameStop in how the company treats its employees.

160 GB Slim Ps3- 90 Base (180 after promo)
The associate told me his district manager had told him they are going to be extending the double hardware value until the 28th but with no real confirmation I would not count on it unless we get some more people saying the same.
 
I have 4 games from the list that i want to trade. Can i trade all 4 together? I am afraid tiered promo (10% extra when trading 3 games) will override the special trade in values and i will get less credit.
Should i do 2 at a time in separate transactions?
 
Bah. I'm really tempted to trade-in my MW2 Xbox with the 250GB hard drive so I can get a slim this holiday season. I'd get $130 right? I also have a copy of Borderlans, Halo Reach, I think I still have a couple of Pokemon games somewhere and Portal 2. I would end up paying for a new slim.

The only thing holding me back is that I would have to renew my PUR...

Thats a good question. I traded in a bunch of games and two were on the list. They applied the tiered value to them, I had to point it for them to apply the 50% TIV value from the list.

I printed out the list and took it in with me, I'd suggest you do the same.

The system gives you the best promo automatically, so you'll be fine. You can easily just pay attention to the values before completing the trade.

Most of the time that's true. But not always. I've tested it myself before.
 
Updated lists and database.

Anytime you see a promo listed in the OP that is out of date or needs data changed, please go ahead and change it. I made that post a Wiki item so that can be done as my current update schedule seems to fluctuate between every 3-4 days. The days of the daily updates are pretty much gone.

As Donut said this is not always true and I know from experience when I traded games in towards the previous list. Always do separate trade in for the games on the list. Don't listen to the GS clerk that it will give you the best offer, a lot of them doesn't even know about the PUR list.

At best you would get $90 (maybe $95) for the system and then $20ish for the HD. I got $95 last Sunday but that was the last day of the extra $50 promo and the base was $45. I kept the HD and bought an empty case off Amazon to mount it for my nephew's 360 because their HD went kaput. Better than spending $80 for a new one. No reason to renew PUR I think. These promos are not PUR exclusive?

I thought hard drives counted for the extra 100%. Maybe I'll just keep mine then and just trade in the games.

Unfortunately they count them as accessories so you only get 10% with PUR on its own.

So GS dropped the pre-order price on the Halo Bundle to $349.99. It figures it happens the day after I buy a Holiday Bundle. Would have waited but now that I used a $50 PUR reward cert I am stuck with the Holiday bundle. Sigh...
 
Woohoo got something off my backlog today...damn gonna end up getting more stuff with it though.

I didn't see that as a bad price for Pokemon Soulsilver.

That's only the case if you already opened the box. I've done something similar before(I bought a regular 360 a few days before they started taking preorders for the Gears 3 console and used a $20 reward certificate) and what they did was processed the return, put whatever amount I wanted towards the Gears 3 console, and then added another $20 to my preorder to make up for the reward certificate. It might be YMMV, though, as I'm not sure of the common practice in that situation.

However, if you already opened it, they're usually pretty strict with new consoles. You can exchange it for the exact same thing but you cannot otherwise return it for a refund or towards another item. At least...that's how it used to be.
 
I traded in 6 games off that list plus preordered Halo 4 and the system gave me the extra 50%.

For those who know: if I call gamestop, can I order sometging online and not get charged tax if I use my trade in credit? I want to order the xbox bundle with forza and skyrim and dont want to pay the $12.50 in tax.

/side-story start:

I had a 120GB Slim PS3

I got a game disc stuck in there which made the system pointless, but $100 for Sony to fix it or pay a craiglister $60+ just to remove disc was a high price

So I went to youtube, watched the DIY Video, folowed steps, fucking cakewalk, but nervous as fuck
Got game out, closed up, runs perfectly, just doesn't take discs (lol)

Traded it n today to Double Promotion:

$85 became $170 (no repair or refurbish fee either)
Got $37 for Transformer FoC + Darksiders II

(Was eyeing the PS3 Pulse Headset, Hopefully it gets a small price slash/drop during BF)

Was amazed the guy took my PS3, gave me credit, while chatting, was boxing it up to be shipped to warehouse/refurb center

I was trading in some games yesterday and the guy told me I had saved over $2,500. He said it was the most he had ever seen. No way I spent that much but he said it counts trade-ins as well.
 
Forgive my ignorance and I appreciate any info on this urgent matter that I have:

Is the Xbox360 120Gb Elite Black Edition (in full working condition) worth anything (after bonus), with the full set of accessories and two wireless controllers.

Anyone know a TIV on the new XCOM? Have an extra 360 copy that I'm trying to unload. Not sure whether to wait for that upcoming Best Buy deal or go with Gamestop.

According to one of the OP posts, I think you'd net $90 (after promo) for the console/cables/one controller and then $11.xx and $20 for the HDD and second controller separately (without promo).

Thanks, the amount of knowledge I have on different models of Xbox 360s is embarrassing....I looked through the OP and didn't see any mention of Elite so needed some input.

God I hope someone like you has traded theirs into my local gamestop haha. I have credit and want the game pretty bad.
 
No 50% at my usual store (B2G1) is going to make it harder to trade a few of my games. Most are on the powerups list but 3 are not (L2D2, Orange Box and Spider-man:SD) so I am limited in my %. Maybe I will sit on them and see what happens next week.

I'm just trading in a few things on my list that I made sure I paid less than what the trade in was for and either haven't/won't play(Mario Kart Wii, Zelda, GTA IV complete) or that I don't think I'll get back to anytime soon(Saint's Row 3, DMC HD)

GS doesn't care what version of the old 360 hardware it is, everything is either an old style 360 or a Slim.
 
Traded in Mario Kart Wii, Mario Allstars Wii, and New Super Mario Bros DS, and got 72.50 to put towards my WiiU preorder. Unusually good promo from GS :D

Did you only get 10% PUR bonus on L4D? Or did it give you 30% for trading in more than 7?

Yeah the register now not only prompts the cashier with a view of the last 5 purchases, but it also shows a year to date PUR savings/trade in bonus now. I went in today and the cashier said "wow you have saved so much money it says $1,200 year to date for you." She commented how that was the largest she's seen so far. #2 was at $800. I guess the bright side is that the number is supposed to reset in January.
