These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2) *Fat unit requires either back cover or network adapter*
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

What? Gamestop takes ipods now?


When trading in an ipod touch what do they check for? I got two ipod touches with shitty audiojacks and I've had them fixed but quickly went back to not working after a week.

Mines cosmetically are fine I even changed the screens myself when they cracked but wondering if they put in well now that I think about it how could they check the audiojack if there is no music? HRM I'll go tomorrow and see wah happens, also will they be selling new ipods would be great to sell two shitty ones and buy a new one.

They check to make sure it powers on and can play music. No scratches or personalization is accepted. I tried to trade in one with a busted screen that wouldn't turn on and they wouldn't accept it. (I don't blame them.)

lol wonder if they'll take the old original iPod Shuffle. The one that was also a USB stick. I got one lying around. Got a iPhone 2G also with a cracked screen, but I want to fix that.
 
So I just called my GameStop for trade in values on some iPod Touches I had lying around.

iPod Touch 16GB 1st Gen - $75
iPod Touch 16GB 2nd Gen - $90

They also confirmed that I don't need anything except for the devices so since my wife and I both have an iPhone 4 I'll be trading those in tomorrow and using that money + a $25 gift card + a coupon and ordering myself a Turtle Beach PX5 for only $9.99 + tax!
 
I can confirm that it was 70$ for the 8 Gig 1st Gen Ipod Touch. Just traded mine in.

All they did was plug it up into the wall to make sure it worked, and that was it. Gotta admit thats quite awesome for Gamestop, used it to fund a bit of flipping, and put the rest on my Gear's 3 console :p

Did GS all of a sudden start getting serious about disc condition? I always take good care of my games and almost got charged a refurb fee for practically nothing after he examined the shit out of it. A buddy of mine also had trouble with that, and now the poster above me. Seems unfair when I've seen plenty of used games come out of that store that I swear have been chewed on by a pack of dogs.
 
does anyone know if GameStop has DLC on the release date?

for example Lonesome Road comes out Sept 20th, will GameStop online have it Sept 20th?

Periodically District Managers get a bug up their ass when stores haven't used the refurb fee at all. So they send word out that stores need to refurb more discs. You usually have to just wait for it to pass. Or ask to see a used sports game at random and point out that they are going to sell you a disc in worse condition than the one you are trading in.

Also, always remember if you believe you are right make the DM involved. The store people are just following orders.
 
I once had an issue where a GS wanted to charge me a refurb on a perfectly fine copy of Bioshock 2. Hell, I had bought it online from them and beat the game pretty quickly, so I know I didn't damage it at all.

I just took the game back, traded it at the other GS in town, and the manager there gave me the full value without any issues.

Is it bad for Gamestop employees to cancel a Pre-Order?


Went in today at Gamestop to buy Battlefield: Bad Company 2, wanted to use my 5 bucks that I had towards a Pre-Order of Modern Warfare 3 on my copy of Battlefield instead. Turns out, they were all out of copies of Battlefield. Still wanted the 5 bucks back. He told me, "Its just 5 bucks" to try and stop me, didn't work. He gave me the 5 bucks, told him "Thank You, Have a nice day".

He didn't say a word.
 
^ Actually it's kinda bad for them, because each employees preorders are tracked and it affects there numbers. Same thing happened to me recently, walked in to cancel 2 games so I could buy new glasses, and the guy working there got all pissy and tossed my card back at me and walked away. The manager was next to him and told him to calm down and not to worry about it.

Traded in quite a few things today that I grabbed cheap from Blockbuster and had around from FYE B2G1 sales and GS's last Game Days sale. I know I didn't pay more then maybe $100 for all these and ended up with almost $200 after the PUR and 50% bonus.

It's like the banks figured out about ATM fees, etc. Gamestop has figured out the refurb fees are a great source of income so I'm sure they are pushing their employees to charge more of them...and since the person is already there with the games they are still likely to trade them in. However, if you buy a game stratched all the Hell, they will say you have a 7 day return period if it doesn't work and they will charge you a refurb fee if you decide to trade it in later.

This couldn't be further from the truth. It just depends how picky the store manager is and how they train their staff.
 
I've never been charged a refurb fee at any of the stores in my areas. That said, when they charge that fee they should instantly put the disc in their scratch doctor or whatever they supposedly use. Right now they are charging the fee for a service and probably 99% of the time not providing that service.

They didn't check the headphone jack or the USB port. He just went into some menus and compared the serial numbers to a big book they have. Also, every iPod is scratched in the back, it's the front they worry about.

Anything Gamestop takes in with a refurb fee has a sticker printed out to mark it as defective and it goes into a box in the back the store manager has to ship off each week. Nothing is done in-store.

Also all Xbox 360 HDD's and Memory Units, and all Sony/Nintendo Memory Sticks/SD Cards, are handled in a similar fashion, except the sticker for them shows the price at $999.99 so that they're not sold and sent in the same box to the factory in Texas. The Apple device trade-ins are being handled the same way.

Did you have to trade in the USB charge cable and/or the earbuds, or did they take it w/ no charger and/or earbuds?
 
Just trade my 3DS to Gamestop today since i saw the Tokyo Game Show 2011 last night & watch the Sony Press & Nintendo Press on Monday. Sony pretty much made me trade my 3DS by force when i saw Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 was for Vita & MGS HD, FF X too.

Um I don't know if you work there but I'm a former Gamestop manager. I got several conference calls about increasing the use of the refurb fee on "questionable games". Also had even heard of stores being given a quota when they weren't using the refurb fee at all.

Saying it's all the store manager is ridiculous. It starts with them but the DM's definitely get involved when there are company directives. I was told this is because Gamestop pays for the refurb locations whether they are being used enough or not. In addition, if stores in a district are getting a lot of returns it will sometimes be attributed to the games being damaged.
 
I have a quick question if i were to trade in a 3ds title for a pre order + 10% and if i used the extra 30% for 3ds would that stack or no?

I didn't. I think someone on here said they needed the cable, but they told me in advance at Gamestop they don't need any accessories with it.

Of course, I'm not sure why I felt the need to keep my proprietary iPod connector, but, hey.
