These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

I would say your only chance now is to contact the manager of the store and explain the situation

EDIT: Also, depending on your state and how they classify trade ins, some may consider it a pawn and you may be able to claim it back.

Yeah, selling it was not smart hombre. But as long as you have your receipt, go back to the store and find out what happened. If the employees argue too much (read: are stupid), then ask for a manager or a manager's number.

The odd thing was that when he rang me up, he saw the price, and then said, "And you get a bonus with that trade-in." I then signed my digital signature, and he handed me my receipt. I left, and they were closing.

I went to Best Buy to pick up Zelda, and glanced at the receipt. It even says bonus promo on the receipt, but it's not added to the base price. The guy was new, so I don't want to get him in trouble, but we're talking about $20+ in credit. That's why I was just hoping there was an e-mail address for customer service since the promo ends today.

Generally the Gamestop stores will deal with in store problems, the customer service number is generally online orders and such. Its not only a lot faster, but you should see results right away if you walk in and just explain the situation to manager

I still have an X360 Pro model from LAUNCH DAY. I have no idea how it's still working, considering all my friends are on their third or fourth system. But I know it's only a matter of time. I was planning on picking up a 250GB Holiday Bundle from Best Buy on Black Friday, so that leads me to a couple questions that I don't see have been answered in at least the last five pages. So I apologize if these come up often.

1) How rigorous is their testing of the console? I saw they check to make sure it has been fiddled with; but I haven't done anything at all to the console. But about 15% of the time, if I put in a game, the system reads it as a movie DVD and then boots to a "please insert an X360 game" screen. If the game loads, it works 100% fine. So, between three Gamestops, I'd imagine if I had problems at one, the next one would have the game boot correctly. Do they typically test more than one game?

2) What am I missing out on without using a HDD transfer cable? I'd imagine my 20GB HDD is only worth like $5, so I'll just hold onto it... but I may not be able to use a buddy's 360 to transfer my data for a couple weeks. I can import my Gamertag, correct? How about saves? I don't care about downloads and DLC, as I can re-download that crap later.

FYI it's $45 base then a $50 promo applied also, which expires on Dec. 4.

1. If the disc doesn't boot properly you'll lose about $20 in the credit as the store will take it in as defective. They only test 1 game, possibly none if the store is really busy.

2. The biggest thing with the downloads/DLC is if you don't use the transfer cable you'll HAVE to be online and signed in to XBox Live to use that content. Any download on the XBox has 2 licenses, 1 for the console and 1 for the gamertag. You can transfer licenses on the website, but you have to select each thing in the list manually and you can only do that once every 12 months.

If you want to save your saves w/o using the transfer cable then you'll need to copy them to a USB stick (if you're console has been connected to Live sometime after April 2010 and you have the latest XBox firmware.)

Maybe not the right place to ask this, but does GS sell used motion +'s? I am in need of one and the cheapest I can find it is $17 at walmart. Or I'll have to buy it online.

They have them but I think the new ones on clearance at Walmart are cheaper.

This turned into one of the best trades EVER, as this store had signs up for a 50% bonus, which they were honoring, but keying in manually, as an adjustment to the BASE value. Then, since I had 7 games, the system automatically gave me the 30% tiered trade bonus plus the 10% PUR bonus, but those percentages were applied to the manually adjusted "base" values. So, effectively, I got a grand total of 110% bonus. Score! $115.50 total value added to my card.

Experienced a new low in Gamestop's "Extraordinary" Customer service today. I had two ps3 component cables I was trading in. The girl denies the trade in saying they can't except duplicates, so I said fine, and just to trade in the one. She has a real attitude about this, but processes it. She puts it in as a ps2 component cable, which is only a $1, so I correct her that it is a ps3 component cable, which was $2.50 (yea, i know, not worth the hassle, but they were extras and wasn't doing anything else with them). She claims that it look like the ps2 ones, and so without the packaging, how was she suppose to know which one it was for. I was just about to say forget about it then, but then the other employee told her to just process it as the ps3 component cable as it was.

Afterwards, I go browse the used games section and notice she is now chewing out the guy that came in right as she finished my trade in because he wanted to trade in a wireless xbox headset that was still in the box. She said they can't take "new" accessories as trade in, and the guy told her it was used, he just put it back in the box, and asks if he takes it out of the box then would it be fine. She then says that no he still couldn't trade it in, because she "Saw" him walk in with it in the box still! So he just said whatever and left.

I'm thinking, WHAT THE fuck! This bitch gives me heck about not being able to differentiate my cables because I didn't have the packaging, but then the next minute is telling someone they can't trade it in because they do have it in the box? I just couldn't help but laugh and walk out. This isn't the first incident I've experienced with this store or others in my area, which is why I hardly ever shop there, it just blows my mind where they find these special people.
 
actually, there is a store wide policy that you cant trade in sealed or new looking games or accessories or systems...i got bitched at bout it last time i tried to trade in a sealed new game. And when i tried to open it they told me to leave...i also i had the reciept and bag with me from where i previously bought it in plain sight...Another thing i dont get is that gamestop thinks people can steal games sealed...i know the only way people actually steal them is to open the game up, and hide the disc in your jacket ( i used know someone who did that , but he DID get caught after like 3 times)....otherwise if you just walk out with a sealed game your obviously gonna have suspicion because it has a bar code that sets alarms off...
 
I was just looking at my local GS in prep for the buy 2 get one used sale. Are there realky any decent deals at GS in this deal? Everything seemed overpriced and not worth going for.

La noire used for over $20? I can get it brand new for that. Seems like everything is like that.

come to think of it, you would think that gamestop accepting disc only trades only helps thieves that steal video games looking for quick cash.

it's more likely that someone is sly and steals just the disc than a brand new and sealed game that is likely to set off alarms at a retail store (unless you are those two guys in europe with assault rifles and attempting some high profile hi-jacking of a delivery truck containing 6,000 copies of mw3)

anyways, does anyone know if you can trade in a 250gb xbox slim without the hdd? i know they differentiate the slims and the 4gb have internal memory while the 250gb glossy ones do not.

You can not. However they may think it's a 4gb and do it anyway as such.

Ugh... long day today at the Gamestop. Manager basically called me both a liar and a thief today since she has since found out that I was buying those Kinect Adventures yesterday for flipping purposes and not my own use. ... No shit I don't plan to personally use eight copies of the game. Besides, you said you had "more copies than you know what to do with" just yesterday. Pro-tip: If you can't sell a game after it's been sitting on your shelf for $1.99 for weeks, you're not going to sell it at all. Also, don't get on the offensive with customers who are polite to you all the time - it's not professional in the least.

Took my Xbox 360 Pro launch unit in today to trade in. Wouldn't you know it, the game only loaded up to the DVD movie menu, and thus wouldn't play games. But for some odd reason, the employee was persistent. He turned it on, off, on, off, opened the disc, wiped it, tried another game, turned it off, etc, etc. I just kept my mouth shut, only mentioning that it was working last night after he said "he had never seen this before." Finally the third game loaded. He played for like two minutes and then went to the register and gave me my credit... $95.

Lmao, there is absolutely no way in hell that unit is worth $95. I wouldn't buy a working launch 360 for fifty bucks. That said, I'm not going to complain. Means the upgrade to a new 250GB slim on Black Friday will only cost me about a hundred bucks. Nice!
