Please try to follow the example below if possible. If you feel the need to use the system icons, please only use them once at and at the top of the list. Also always post the system it's for even if it's only on one system or the value will not get updated. I don't always know it and I'm doing these updates from work to keep them as updated as often as possible so I can't spend time searching for that info.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

It's a totally random Catalina. (coupon that prints @ the register) Mine printed when I pm'd the Kirby collection there since BB was out of them.
 
What 6 new games did you buy o.0 also did you do it all in one coupon.
I bought the cheapest new game I could find, theres nothing I am really looking for right now other than GTA5 but I have that paid off already. These games were split up between 4 different stores though so 4 different receipts.

 
I really dont think the trade 2 titles have changed.

I can't believe they are still taking some games. Example I traded Fifa 13. It trades for $8 now (so they had to add $17 to the trade)

Like an actual new game you want or just other things to trigger it? There's at least three or four music games most stores have new that are $5 and that's the next cheapest.

What's the procedure for getting some trade credit moved back to the card when the employee puts it all into a pre-order when trading and the customer didn't ask to move it all?
I was able to cancel the preorders (3) i had paid off and re preorder the same games paying only $5 on each of them, making the rest of the credit available. did it all in one transaction with some trade ins, actually pretty easy.

 
The dude put ALL my trade credit on it today. Even the one from my return, which was separate from the reserve. Not cool. He's forcing me to use cash on future purchases until I can either trade or it gets released. Not cool at all.
go back and make sure preorders still open. then cancel yours and repreorder with the minimum deposit, getting the rest back on your card

Also will try the slim ac adapter. I know some cags suggested removing any stickers especially if it's an Amazon purchase...also not sure if I should chance 2 at a time or only 1.

How many is too many titles traded in?

I've traded in 6 copies of Zelda and 6 copies of Kirby over a 2 day span with no problems.

You can always just sign up for a new PUR account. Problem solved.

If you have receipts saying you bought the games you traded in, they should unban you. Otherwise everything is tracked. I actually just got a few emails the other day of 3 customers who are banned from trading/returning items.

I was banned before about three years ago during multiple promo code stacking at gamestop. I bought multiple copies of nsmb for wii and traded it back in different location, but I was only banned on one gamestop store. I guess you could try a different location, other than that I have no idea

Depends on the circumstances around why they were banned in the first place. The last few customers who were banned were due to excessive returns and abusing the return policy. I've seen emails before about people being banned for trading in excessive amounts of the same item to different locations. Like I said before everything is tracked.

I've traded in like 10 copies of Rage, Bulletstorm, FF13, and AC Rev before over the course of a day or two. I haven't been flagged/banned. But then again, I'm an employee and my boss told me he was fine with it as long as I have a receipt.

If you have any issues, just show the MoD your receipt and they should have no problem trading in multiple copies.

Yes as in I'd like a new game for me but don't see any at good prices so I have to either get a filler game to return or a cheap game. It's hard as most stores don't have any "new" ds games out. online checker shows some stores "have" certain cheap ds game in stock so will try again.
Yeah, I've been lied to my face about them not having it then placing a store hold through my phone and picking it up from the same person without ever leaving the store. Best way to not get the run around is just do a web hold if you can because they get in trouble if they don't pull those quick enough.

I would think most people doing "excessive" trades actually bought games to flip so they should have receipts and online records. Also I would think trading in multiples at once to one store would raise a flag even if the manager approved it.

it is basically something to keep in mind. i know the trade 2 for $50 is a tempting/quick profit maker, but sometimes greed can be a bad thing, so know your limits

Haha, they can try to ban me.

Then I'd cancel my PS4 and Xbox One preorders, as well as 7 games i have preordered. They can refund me $1300 from the cancelled preorders if they wish.

unless you pay with cash, you are stuck with them, if you pay with gs store credit. even if you cash them out with amazon kindle credit, you are still buying from them.

Yeah, I'm only up to three of anything but been trying to find more alternatives to returns. Then again my normal impulse purchases and return/rebuys/exchanges would probably be enough to get me banned. At least I didn't just do a bunch of returns to get a pile of free $50 games.

See, I would just assume that if it's paid with store credit and tied to your PUR account that you would just lose all that if you lose any credit on your PUR card when banned.

Well if you lose what's on your PUR card when you get banned then it's no different if you paid with that. Now I should have said trade credit because that is different than what's on a gift card which is considered legal tender and protected under law in most states now.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure gamestop would be stealing from me at that point. Lawsuit would ensue

I will need to read their T&C on trades next time I do one... because I was not aware they confiscate your PUR card amount. I seriously question the legality behind them zeroing out the card balance. Another reason to use a blank trade-in card instead of the one tied to your PUR card.

I didn't mean that as fact necessarily since I can't confirm that they do either way but every time this topic comes up that's what everyone says. It's one of those things that I've been meaning to look into myself.

It's always sounded a little shady to me but the kind of thing that I wouldn't put past them. After all if you get banned from Amazon you're losing all that credit aren't you?

What started out as a horrible morning turned out to be a pleasant afternoon. I tried returning Disney Infinity, un-opened of course, to the same store I bought it from, across the street from the mall. First thing the lady said was that I was a day too late to return it because it's been 8 days but she'll allow it this time around. And I mentioned that the return policy is a full refund within 30 days, and one of the new employees looked at me because he knew I was right. She responded saying no, you can only get an exchange for the same item. But whatever, she scans the receipt and the game and says that I can only get $4 and change back in cash and the rest in store credit. I payed $40 in store credit and the rest in cash so I ask why I couldn't get it refunded the same way. She tells me that it's just the way the computer rings it up and that there's nothing they can do about it. So I take it back and say that I'm just gonna return it to a different GameStop. She insists that I will get the same response everywhere else. Low and behold, I went across the street to the mall and tried returning it at the GameStop there and she didn't mention anything about it being more than 7 days but she gives me the same spheel about how the computer says that she can only give me a coupe bucks back in cash and the rest in credit. After asking for a number to call and complain she says they'll just tell you the same thing, and her advice to me is just to sell it on eBay. Finally I return to the GameStop near my house to trade in Army of Two for the 360 and PS3 and got a $5 game. I talk to the manager there since I've been there a lot recently and tell him what happened earlier. He then tells me to go get the Disney Infinity and the receipt and he'll give me the refund back the same way I payed for it. Told me that the other GameStops are retarded and don't know what they're doing. Finally after 3 tries I got my $38 in cash back and the rest in credit. Decided to upgrade to Pro with some of that credit since he finally got me what I should've had earlier this morning. I'll be sure to leave him good feedback and the other two bad feedback. Sorry for the long story, most of you probably don't care. I just think it's shady as hell for them to say that they can't give you split refunds because their computer says they can't, allegedly. Yeah, I don't even think about going to certain stores with issues any more. Devil's Cartel is dropping like a rock, think I'm going to have to go unload the two sets I have sitting here. Was going to wait until Sunday and see what happened with BBY (for some variety in my trading) but when I would just be shuffling it back to GS to pay for the Pokemon 3DS system it's not worth the risk.

Not sure if you know this or not, but that coupon is a God send lol. If you buy two $5 PC games or any cheap games you can get a $60 one for free. OR if they have any collectors edition games those will be the free game as well.

"this customer can not trade in for cash" prompt pop up, store manager doesn't know the cause. All my previous tradein were for store credit, and had 1 $99.99 no receipt return. Does this mean that I'm going to ban from trading in soon? TIA
