Please try to follow the example below if possible. If you feel the need to use the system icons, please only use them once at and at the top of the list. Also always post the system it's for even if it's only on one system or the value will not get updated. I don't always know it and I'm doing these updates from work to keep them as updated as often as possible so I can't spend time searching for that info.

FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

I tried trading in two Pokemon Platinums, a 360 Deadpool, and a PS3 Deadpool and was told I can't trade in two games on the same system. I traded in just one Platinum and the PS3 Deadpool. I'm ok with not being to trade in two of the same games because it's policy not to, but what made me mad (it irritated me more, than made me mad, really) is that the cashier didn't even know how the Trade 2 promo worked and why it was more beneficial for me to just trade in a set of two games. She instead insisted I trade in three out of the four games. Anyways, I walked out with Pokemon X and Y for $17 out of pocket after bonuses and preorder deposits.

The PUR points don't reset but the savings calculations do.
The receipt I got the other day shows the following:

- Today's savings

- This year's savings

- Total lifetime savings

- Available points

Nothing was reset, even after re-newing.

 
I have 21,290 powerup rewards points, I recently lost my job and finally have an interview for another job tomorrow...the thing is I do not have much gas money to even get there. I see that I can spend 25,000 points and get a $25 off any purchase good at gamestop (I could in theory use this to buy a single $25 Shell Gas station card)....but I am 4,000 points short, so could I buy 4 of the $5 off any purchase coupons and use all 4 of the coupons on a single $25 Shell gas station card and then just pay the remainding 5 or so dollars in cash ?

Probably not. The different value amounts should stack but the same dollar coupons won't. It's still YMMV and up to the employees if they'll take multiple different value coupons.

Is your job much farther than gamestop since you have gas to get to gamestop obviously? Just trade in some items to get a shell gas card.

You'd have to think an update to the trade 2 will come soon with the new Pokemon release. I think Payday 2 might go off that list. It was hard to find before, now, not really.

I do not think it will let you combine two $ off discounts, regardless of origin. The system counts that as two different 'promos' ... your best bet is to buy two $10 coupons and get $10 GS gift cards with each coupon... then pay $5 OOP.

As long as the two $ discounts are different amounts, there shouldn't be any problems--I've used a $5 off and $10 off in the same transaction in the past.

I'd be surprised if that still worked after this POS update. A lot of bonuses don't see to be combining (trade 2 with 30% on different games) etc.

We could have a communal CAG house that would rival the ritziest mansions... until someone wanted to play something that was part of the foundation and the whole thing collapsed killing dozens.

Most coupons and promotions that are single item and could work on multiple in the transaction automatically apply to the highest item. It says it in the fine print of most of the coupons.

Based on my recent receipts, i think they see only the current balance/savings after some "reset" that had to have occured. I had over a thousand in PUR savings according to last year and just this week my current PUR savings shows $600.

I think the reset was either done during some year end or maybe right after I renewed my PUR.
Donut2922, they have not implemented the trade history look up. I was talking with a manager and that hasn't happened. He is not sure if it will or not since it is one of the suggested additions to the POS update so we shall see. They are scheduled for another POS update soon (and the major one before Xmas) so no telling what that will do. What I did notice is that the POS now is stricter towards coupon stacking and combined promo stacking even if they are meant to work like they are supposed to but don't.

People keep saying that and I still don't see an issue. The only thing they'll ban is your Power Up Rewards card. You don't use ID at Gamestop, so there's nothing really to ban. You'll lose out on the $16 you paid for membership, and that's it. I don't think they can take the credit you have on the card, either.
You are correct in that they just ban the PUR account and you can just make another and keep going onwards. However, if you (the person behind the PUR card) gets on their radar then the issue is they will ban YOU (ask Velo) as in if they recognize the person behind the account, no matter how many accounts you make, they will ban them district wide and refuse to take trades from you. The IDs are not linked to the account but if they accept them, they can put two and two together. Granted, if you are smart (Hoarder smart) you will already have a backup plan in place to begin with. Anyways, the only people banned as of recent have been those that went over the top on electronic trade ins and or had more trades than what they bought and preorderd to show for and even they made another account and moved on. GS's POS keeps getting updated and keeps getting better at tracking abnormal patterns so that is part of reason for the recent surge in jr detective like behavior. Anyways, play it smart and don't draw unnecessary attention to yourself. All this stuff is on the extreme side so it shouldn't be a problem for most of us here. Ok about 2% off topic here, but I was a ways away for work, up in a part of the state I don't usually get to hit, and oh... my... god... I had probably the worse gs experience I have had, and it directly involved a trade 2 promo. So, here is what went down I went to store X, had a good experience, picked up a spare copy of a game that I know is fairly rare (Mega Man Starforce 3 Black Ace) in preparation of the b1g1 on ds game steal of the week, plan to return/rebuy. But anyway, I traded in a cart only heart gold, and a cart only pearl, along with a dirt 3 :whistle2:$, also picked up a copy of rock revolution to trigger the trade 2 promo. While there I also picked up 3 DS games, Black 2, White 2, and Pearl (yes another copy XD) as I was going to a local store that had a game I was looking for in stock, Solatorobo: Red The Hunter. I was gonna trade in 2 of the pokemon games while I was up there, and essentially be able to keep the third for $10 essentially. Here is where it all went down hill.
Store Y was... Aweful... I go to trade the two pokemon in and pick up solatorobo... Also figured I would return rock revolution, I tend not to return most games I pick up (I have a STACK of Americas Test Kitchen) but I was low on credit and $5 was $5... I noticed the store X messed up bad... They never scanned the rock revolution, good right? FREE GAME??? WRONG! That meant I never got the boosted trade value on the Heart Gold and Pearl... I showed the associate the receipt and she saw I had just bought the pokemon games I was trading in, then she proceeds to go on a rant how I was gaming the system, how I was hurting the business and taking money from it, how what I was doing shouldn't be allowed, etc. I just said forget it, purchased solatorobo, and left without trading in games like I planned. I go back to the first store to fix the mistake they did (A quick re-ring should do everything properly).
She CALLED the other store AND apparently the district manager as well! Made me out to be almost a thief, I was flat out refused to have the transaction fixed. I was given two options, either void the transaction, take my games back, and give them back the games I purchased, or I could accept the lower trade values.
I was shocked like any of you would be, and clearly upset, I was told while I was not technically doing anything wrong, they were "being watched" now. I made it perfectly clear and asked "So YOU messed up, and now YOU will not fix it and do what you were supposed to the first time?" "I can't, sorry."
What really got me... was that, I could deal with the beyond rude employee at the second store, I could deal with practically being chased out of THAT store... but when I am told simply, and when questioned plainly, that even though he made a mistake, and ADMITTED he did, that he would NOT fix it, and do what he was SUPPOSED to do the first time? I draw the line there...
took the void, gave back the games and got back mine, made sure to still purchase mega man, and get the transaction ID even though it was voided and wouldn't let me do a survey for THAT. So after two SCALDING surveys, today I got a call from the store manager.
I told him the entire story, and what happened, and he agreed that the associate from his store was 100% wrong.
Now to be clear, I am not bashing on GS, IT WAS RESOLVED, and I look forward to forgetting the incident.
He talked with his employee, he apologized on behalf of both stores, and made sure to make clear that is not the way any store should run, and the way he does not want to run HIS store.
I accepted the apology, and is having a game transferred from the EVIL store that I saw they had, but just wanted out of there (I saw a Etrian Odyssey IV NEW, the first run edition with the art book and he is also sending a Dishonored GOTY tarot card deck, they gave them out for preorders, to my local store)

Gamestop employees are shady, yesterday they had every excuse in the book. They said they couldn't see if a coupon was applied until after the transaction. I knew this was a lie and they just didnt want to enter two coupons for me. Either that or the Oct. Bday coupon doesn't work. Cost me about $7. :(

Man trade values tanked on a lot of stuff. I used to be able to buy anything at a garage sale for $1 and trade it in and make a couple of bucks per game on junk.

Well I learned today that I nearly got banned from GS save for my two regular stores vouching for me and that they had gotten an email from the DM asking about me.

Didn't I tell you I'm not that sarcastic unless I think it should be painfully obvious?

Why wouldn't they? I'm an awesome guy... who's in there at least twice a week trading and buying stuff. I'm actually surprised they weren't like nope this guy's entirely shady so they didn't have to deal with me any longer.

I think they roughly know what I'm doing with half the stuff I buy there but I also think they don't mind when 90% of that half is stuff that would never sell otherwise.
