WHEN REPORTING TRADE-IN VALUES PLEASE POST BASE VALUES & SYSTEM IT IS FOR.

First post contains promo information & useful information and frequently asked questions. Second post has the values for games/hardware for Microsoft devices. Third post has the values for games/hardware for Nintendo consoles and the fourth post has the values for Nintendo handhelds. Fifth post has the values for games/hardware for Sony consoles and the sixth post has the values for Sony handhelds.

WHEN POSTING VALUES:

Please try to follow the example below if possible. If you feel the need to use the system icons, please only use them once at and at the top of the list. Also always post the system it's for even if it's only on one system or the value will not get updated. I don't always know it and I'm doing these updates from work to keep them as updated as often as possible so I can't spend time searching for that info.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Finally reached my boiling point GameStop after that argument the other day. Ended up writing a long complaint to Corporate and went in to both stores to cancel all of my preorders. Manager at the first store was sincere and nice and gave me the District Managers phone number to call and complain, then I went into the other store were once again the employee was arguing but overall I cancelled $400+ of Preorders and I'm done shopping there.

Obviously I'll be sticking around this thread for all the laughs it brings but I'm officially done shopping at GameStop as a whole.

Manager at the first store was sincere and nice and gave me the District Managers phone number to call and complain, then I went into the other store were once again the employee was arguing but overall I cancelled $400+ of Preorders and I'm done shopping there.

Obviously I'll be sticking around this thread for all the laughs it brings but I'm officially done shopping at GameStop as a whole.
You are abusing promotions. You can get flagged for this.

I agree though but you can't always want it your way.

I have been screwed by a gs before but i find that the managers never tend to last long and know that I'm cool with the employees your in good shape. had a ps plus card where the code scrathed off and they replaced it no hassle

Its not just people who abuse the promos that get shit. I rarley cancel pre-orders and when I was attempting to do my first this year I was lied to and told I couldn't. I dont understand why it has to be such a big hassle to cancel. People change their minds or maybe they need the money for something else.

It's because pre-orders are tied to getting hours in Gamestop. If you get pre-orders, you get more hours. If you have pre-orders cancelled on you, you get less hours.

What a stupid rule. Pretty much everything Gamestop does is asinine and stupid.

 
Ok guys, help a brother out. I got The Last of Us from a PSN sale back in November/December. I have it downloaded on my PS3, but I want to get it on disc. If I just put a blank blu ray disc in there, will it let me create a TLoU disc that I can bring to Gamestop and use to get the PS4 version? Obviously I'm fine if it means I can't have my digital copy anymore. Like you copy it to the disc, but you can never download the PSN version again. Or is there a way to just get a free disc copy through the PSN store of games I've downloaded?

Yea just copy it to your blank blu ray disc. Just remember to write the title on the disc. That's the most important thing. GS employee's gonna give you a hard time if you don't.

I've dealt with this situation before, and I can tell you it gets aggravating. As other members have mentioned, you are knowingly taking advantage of the promos, and if you did it while in one of my stores more than a few times (at least three to four times) I would have done the same exact thing and let the SM know. Hell, I even had a guy who would constantly come back into the store to take three bucks off of his pre-orders two or three times a week to go buy a soda at Burger King.

Anyway, I ended up leaving the company two weeks back. I can't quite say if it was the customers or the company more that made me leave, but I can say in the eight years of retail I've done, I haven't had to deal with shittier people than the ones who came through the doors at gamestop. When I was at my Sac store, I felt a few times like we were potentially about to get robbed. I had one guy pleading to get into the back to use our bathroom. Plus, the store I left is now down to three employees: An SM2 (a store manager who runs two stores), an SGA (keyholder below ASM) and one part time GA. The store manager is leaving by the end of August as well. So, yeah, it was a bad place to be dealing with just about anybody. But, I will say that I did make some of my best friends from guys who walked into the store. People who I would give promos to regardless, because they understood I had a shitty job to do and would make sure to make it more memorable.

Yeah, the company is focusing on hiring people who are specifically sales-oriented. It sucks. But, I can tell you not everybody is bad. Try a little respect so you don't become the person who gets a target on their back once you walk out of the store. After dealing with dozens upon dozens of GS employees with calling other stores, going into other stores, transfers, and just generally networking, I've found that most of the time, the customers are worse.

Same, I won't have my PS4 back until 9/9. I just can't pass up TLOU: Remastered for $25, even if I can't play it for over a month.
Yeah, definitely! The PS3 version will probably only drop even lower once the PS4 version comes out. I already see it for $17.xx regularly on AWD, so $25 is definitely the way to go. The only hesitation I'm having is that I still have a lot of unearned trophies for PS3 version, but I'm willing to overlook that for this deal.

 
So i wanted to test something tonight to see how it would work.  

I was looking to see what Wii and DS games give the best trade value back with the B2g1.  After going looking at some things, the easiest to find the games i went with the following:

Pokemon Black V2

Pokemon Black V1

Pokemon White V1

All these games are the same price 32.99

With the PUR card and the B2G1 my total was 59.38 which i used trade credit.    

Went to another game stop like 5 to 10 mins away and trade the 3 games back for $68.80 which was like a $9.42 profit which isn't much but if you wanted to rack up some easy point with your PUR card this would be a good way to do it.   Also it best to get all three games at one store.  If you travel to multiple stores it may not be worth it gas wise.

Anyways I hope this helps some people who want to get easy extra point with a little profit on the side.

Also if you try to use the BD coupon or the $5 off coupon it will be wasted as it makes the the cheaper game become free

 
Great promo for those who still have the PS3 version, I traded in my copy a while ago for $24 at BB.

Here's a look at the differences between the two, Im super jealous of those who are experiencing it for the first time on the ps4.

Regarding cancelling pre-orders, I never had any problems. I just get asked why and if I would like to pre-order something else. I did pre-order a couple of Maddens to get the bonus but I plan on switching one to a white DS4. I'll pick up and return the other one. My store is great so I feel bad when I cancel on someone.

I'm always polite and usually very quiet I never argue or disrespect anybody. I'm not some grouchy guy who constantly complains I'm a young kid who's been taught proper respect. Not only that but I've worked retail for the past 5 years so I know what it's like.

I'm not "Abusing" anything. I very rarely cancel preorders from these promotions and usually follow them through. The fact is this guy has given me an attitude for the last year and he's just a regular employee. Neither of the store managers ever give me any issues and I like and regularly chat with a lot of the other employees. This is just some random employee who decided to take out all his aggression on me all of the sudden. One of the Store Manager's mentioned how the guy's probably frustrated because corporate keeps refusing to send him to a store near his house and he drives 45 minutes to work but as the Manager said regardless there's no right to get upset at customers.

Now you could say that this is the one guy doing his job right and all of the Manager's and other Employees aren't probably enforcing these promotions the way they're meant to be. But it sounded like you played favorites yourself judging from your post and there's definitely nothing wrong with that but I simply don't believe I've done anything wrong. I know it may sound like an exaggeration but this guy has literally harassed me for the past year anytime I get him as my Register and up until now I never bothered do anything because I don't like to complain and cause a scene or any tension.

Also got a great surprise as I returned Watch Dogs :ps4: (had rented it from GS at the end of last week to finish off the story/some trophies) and got my entire refund back in cash!  I thought they couldnt do that if you paid fully with trade credit?

I assume you meant to say "He wouldn't be so mad" but either way as I said I'm not abusing anything. I very very rarely ever cancel preorders from those promotions and as I said none of the Managers or other employees have ever said anything about it. If I was truly abusing story policy I would have expected somebody higher up (Manager or District Manager) to have said something or banned me by now but that's never happened.

@Deader That's what I figured too. I mean most of the time I cancel the preorders to preorder a different game because I changed my mind or the game was reviewed horribly (Like Thief). It's not like I'm going off and buying Amazon credit and saying FU guys later on.

Just because you try to rationalize the abuse doesn't make it any better.

The reason the manager isn't contacting you is because they're probably building a legal case against you.

It happened to me several times, but only at specific stores. It seems that their system always adds tax for refund even for trade credit. So they either gave me cash without the tax, or trade in credit+tax even though I didn't pay any tax to begin with. The manager tried so hard last week to adjust the tax, and after 5 mins he gave up and handed me a gift card instead with my refund+tax lol.

Also got a great surprise as I returned Watch Dogs :ps4: (had rented it from GS at the end of last week to finish off the story/some trophies) and got my entire refund back in cash! I thought they couldnt do that if you paid fully with trade credit?

Does gstop take in Wii U gamepads? Reason I ask is because there's a new update for the wii u that lets u navigate the e-shop with a pro controller or wii remote. Wonder if i could get some quick cash and trade in my gamepad now

 
You should sue gamestop for not letting you cancel preorders. You could get a class action suit going. I bet some others here would jump on board.
you can sue anyone. heard on the local news that some guy sue his mortgage company for 16million and won b/c they promise him a mortgage modification. i guess he won't have to worry about losing his home anymore and can replace it with a mansion. Please someone, sue gamestop and win, you'll be set with free games for life.

Troll? Lol why would anyone want to trade in the gamepad? Even if Gamestop accepted gamepad trade ins, have you thought about how much they would offer you? (Check the kinect 2.0 TIV)

Seeing as all Wii Us come with 1 gamepad, and each Wii U supports ONE gamepad, I doubt you'd get more a wiimote seeing as the audience for them to sell it to is extremely small. Whereas the kinect actually can be sold to people who bought a kinect-less xb1 and decided they want one now. That's a potentially larger audience and look at how much that trades in for. So in conclusion I'll give you 5 coke caps to take it off your hands. :D

For me this means you've been somehow misled into believing the customer owes GS anything after the trade has been completed. The customer doesn't get to determine what GS charges for the game once GS owns it, and the same goes for money in the customers control. Until I exchange my money for a physical product it is mine to do with as I wish. 

I think if we're generalizing it would be far easier to say GS screws just about every soccer mom that walks into the store and trades a game for 25 cents.

Customer loyalty is something that GS has to earn and it will not materialize when the customer is made to feel like they are being taken advantage of by GS.

You have given your games to gamestop, which in turn gamestop has given you extra credit towards the specific product that you had initially traded your items in for. When you remove the money from the product you pre-ordered, the system DOES NOT automatically remove the extra credit, but for all intents and purposes, it should, as you are no longer purchasing the item that you received the extra credit for. Does the system do it? No. Do most employees care? No. But when it becomes a habit, that is when it is then an issue.

As for "screwing over the soccer moms" I just have to scoff. Any game that trades in for $.25 has a value of under $5, sometimes less. That $5 game is most likely a copy of Madden 12, which will sit in a drawer for anywhere between a week to a year, taking up space and not going anywhere. Why people still complain about TIVs is beyond me. I traded in a copy of Grand Theft Auto V in October of last year and received $48 of in store credit. I traded in a copy of Skyrim which I purchased for $10 from Microsoft's Black Friday sale and, even after a refurbishment fee from playing the damned game for 160 hours, I still received somewhere in the range of $22. I hate people who play the victim as if GameStop is the reason you made no money off of your games. Hell, I used to frequent a local chain called "Dimple" that would often times give less than GS would. So, yeah, poor fucking soccer moms.

 
You know GS is a very large corporation that is looking out for its own best interests right ?

The bonuses are just marketing BS to lock in preorders to allow GS to negotiate lower prices for games from the publishers. If the bonuses lost them money do you think for a second they would do them, and why do you imagine they can so easily run a 50% promotion and not lose money?

The promotion is nothing more than a promotion to have you preorder the game, it did not MANDATE you buy the game. GS cannot reduce the amount they paid for an item after the fact, that would be illegal. I really wish some of you would wise up and really consider who is being taken advantage of in this relationship. If you work for GS, more power to you, its a job after all, but you would get paid more working for costco you know, and the only question you would have to ask there is if the customer wants a box.

I won't disrespect a GS employee unless they try and treat me like a mark to be taken advantage of, and in that case the gloves come off because I'm no corporations bitch and neither should you be.
