I've had this pre-ordered for over a month now, I'm glad the reviews confirmed my optimisim for this game, it's really lookin awesome. Unlike some others, I feel that we should be supporting these types of games (which is why I've had Chulip pre-ordered for 2 months) if people aren't buying these nutty Japanese games at 20$ (which is dirt cheap, lots of you guys are just really really spoiled from the CC sale) then no one will publish these games here and I won't be able to play them. I can't import because I don't know Japanese, so I really hope these games do well over here. It's up to everyone to make their own decision, but if you must be a super mega cheapass about this game, at least get it with a GGC or target raincheck, that way you get it cheaper and support these games.
CAGs are a drop in the bucket compared to the overall market. If the games fail to sell sufficiently well at low prices to merit future releases of similar product it is the failure of the product in that region and nothing more.
This is the difficulty of having non-mainstream tastes. The stuff is harder to find and often comes at a cost. Don't let a lack of Japanese language skills dissuade you. Many great imports requires virtually no understanding of the text, if any. In some case the manual can be found translated online at GameFAQs and other sites. Some imports with only minor amounts of text have it already in English. It can be worth investigating this if there is something you really want and are will to pay the price in cost and/or effort.
I know we aren't the mainstream of gamers, but I'd venture to say that many of us are the target audience of these publishers. The average gamer probably isn't going to give Katamari much of a chance, but people like us who are knowledgable about these games are the ones most likely to buy, plus every little bit helps
If the game isn't in my language, I have about 0 interest in playing it. except for a couple shumps (I hate fighting games so there goes the other non language intensive genre), but my main interest is RPG's, and they are pretty much unplayable if you don't know japanese I hate not being able to read all the dialogue and jumping back and forth between gamefaqs and my tv isn't fun either. Until I learn Japanese, I just have to hope that these games come translated stateside. Where the hell is Giftpia?!?!
