Avoid the Intercept, it's garbage.
x2

I actually have one right now(cause my dad's wife thought she fucked it up and bought an Optimus), and it's crap. The Optimus is 1000x better than the Intercept

Mrs Fiend has an Intercept and has so many problems with it. Trying to find a touch screen with a physical keyboard, for a reasonable price, on ebay. Contact has another year on it, so no upgrade. Should have her hold off for the Epic last year.
Much like the Spiderman movies, the first two were entertaining and the third was a train wreck.
Agreed.

Yeah, I was checking youtube videos and the optimus was appearing better in every way more or less. Damn shame, as I would have preferred a physical keyboard. And I don't think anybody else comes close to $25 a month for unlimited text and web (number of minutes aren't a big deal to me).

Optimus comes with Swype KB.

As much as I've wanted a physical KB since leaving my Moto Q 3 years ago, Swype makes one superfluous
What carrier?

I assume Sprint?
Yeah, Sprint. Trying to luck into finding a good used one, that she likes, on ebay.

Only real smartphone options are Epic 4G or the HTC Arrive(which is Windows Phone 7, not Android).

You could also look for a HTC Touch Pro 2. It's a Windows Phone 6.1, and it has a bunch of fans and 'hacker' development community support.
