Papa John's....

Uh, well I've never ordered a Papa John's (well I did a few years ago, back when they weren't as big, without the whole commercial thing...) and I need to know, what is your favorite thing to ordeR? I was thinking just a pepperoni pizza, medium size (is that a good size for 1-2 people?) but then again, there could be something that tastes way better than a pepperoni pizza.

Thanks.

this isn't gonna turn into a "I ordered my pizza 40 minutes ago, how much should I tip???" thread is it?

pizza is pizza, except if you go to NYC.... nothing compares to NYC pizza.
everything else is "Generic"
It's monday. They have a 2 medium, 3 toppings each deal for $10. Go for it.
Seriously? That's awesome.

Why is NYC pizza so great? The only thing that makes it different from anywhere else is that the slices are huge.

Whoops...long day at work. Wait no, I'm posting from Nipponland. Yeah that's it. I know exactly what day it is.
But yeah my local Papa Johns has a Mon/Tue/Wed deal like mentioned above.

bigger slices, more "juice", better tasting cheese... however they should start selling dipping sauces for the crust... Those things can get hard and dry within minutes. :(

Uh, they've been doing the commercial thing for 10 or more years now. Unless you're in your 30s, you wouldn't know because your too damn young. Now get back in your cage, and leave the adults to their conversations.

As a PT Papa John's delivery driver I would suggest their website for ordering for the best coupons, and if you want something different try my fav. Chicken BBQ Hawaiian. Chicken, BBQ sauce, Bacon, and Pineapple. MMMM-MMMMM

When I was there, my dad and I went to a place by the Empire State Building. Of all the pizza I had in NY, it was the absolute best. That was 6 years ago now though so I can't remember the name of the place.

Seconded, Thirded, and Fourthed.

This is what we had for dinner on Saturday. Also, sign up for their online promos. Our pizza came with a free large one-topping pizza because we used one of the promo codes. You have to order online though.

I had Little Caesar's the other weekend and they had a $4.99/large 1-topping deal going on. Can't really beat that, even though I do like Papa john's better.

Man, I'm HUNGRY...

probibly a "Ray's" or "Louigie's?" pizza..

The pizza in NYC (and the surrounding tri-state area) tastes better than anywhere else in the world... well, except Italy - they have some damn tasty pizza there too... and I guess I like Chicago style pizza but that's not really pizza the way I think about pizza but that's another conversation... Anyway, the thin crispy crust, homemade sauce and just the right amount of real mozzarella is what makes the pizza great. They just can't seem to get it right in other parts of the country.

Also, Papa John's, Pizza Hut, Domino's, etc. are about as much pizza like a McDonald's cheeseburger is a cheeseburger. Just awful and I wouldn't eat that crap if you paid me to.

That juice would be grease.

It's not that great. New Yawkers just like to make it out to be great. But opinions differ. I lived in New York and thought that most of the pizza sucked. It's just like everywhere else, some people get how to make it and some don't. Different people like different tastes.

There's a place out here in Vegas that KILLS the pizza I have had anywhere else.

Pap John's is my favorite national pizza chain. Domino's is shit (but their 555 deal works if I'm too hungry to be picky), and Pizza Hut is pretty hit or miss, at least in my area.

I wish I wasn't broke, or else I'd order some PJ's

Most communities only have the big retail chains for Pizza Parlors. NY only has a big name in pizza because it has a lot of small independant shops. Actually now if you go to any large city they'll have an NY equivalent pizza shop. Most of us however are stuck with the big 3 - Dom's, Pizza Hut, and Lil Caesar's.

Three categories for NY pizza:

-The asstacular nationwide chains (Pizza Hut, Domino's etc.)

-A thousand "Ray's" clones--not that there are many actual "Ray's Pizza" places around anymore (more of an 80's/90's thing), but a good way to describe the dime-a-dozen pizza places found every block and a half in the city. All generally the same, all pretty mediocre but probably better than you get elsewhere in the country. Good Chicago deep dish, regardless of the "real pizza" argument, is better than this.

-A handful of supremely awesome thin-crust pizza restaurants, probably the best slices of pizza in this hemisphere.

Yep, the big three account for about 85% of pizza sales. To me, that number is astounding.

In NY they only started advertising.... damn ignorant adults.

everything else is "Generic"
No, I'm the Chicago pizza man. For some reason, well for good reason, Chicago-style is the best.

for some reason that one doesn't taste right and it ends up turning my stomach :(

Lol the debate about which pizza is better, NY vs Chicago has been going on for years, each with there ups and downs. Bottom line it started in NY, and no one takes on the masters of pizza in NY :)
Spinach alfredo w/chicken.
Oh yea thats awesome and I'm addicted to their garlic dipping sauce. Especially when you are eating the leftovers out of the fridge.

I was told that real Italian Pizza is basically like little crackers with a shred or few of cheese, no sauce, but slices of (cooked?) vegetables such as tomatoes instead. Nothing like the pizza we know and love.

I agree, every (over)commercialized pizza franchise pizza I have had sucks. None of them use real cheese or sauce from what I have seen. I'm not sure what the couple local joints use, but they do taste magnitudes better.

The worst Pizza I have ever had came from Mazzio's Pizza. It's in Oklahoma and I don't know where else, but it was horrendous! I felt ill for at least a day and a half later and couldn't eat anything just because of how bad it tasted and how long the flavor lasted in my mouth. I could swear I was still burping up Mazzio's Pizza breath the whole next day. Blek!

I have never had NY pizza, but have always wanted to ever since watching the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movies.

On topic, I say get plain cheese pizza. Nothing beats a plain cheese pizza. Basic, simple, and always swell. If you like their plain cheese, try something more daring next time.

The BBQ Chicken & Bacon pizza is quite good. Also, I highly recommend the cheese sticks. I'll choose Papa John's over a closer pizza place just for the cheese sticks.

Spicy Italian is the best thing they got IMO. I usually get a large to cover 2 people.

a side note....... whats up with the lack of garlic sauce? The old days they give you that and a halopino pepper...now you get sqwat except the pizza.

Italy?
Italy?
well yea that too, but it started in NY then everyone moved out west. Funny how they say either NY Style, Chicago Style, California style, yet no one has the balls to make a DC style or FL style or texas style lol.

Hmmm... I love it when Pizza has the same consistancy as soup..

NOT!

Had some cheesesticks and a slice of bbq hw today, cheesesticks are only good fresh, I recommend pick up on those, with cheese, garlic, and pizza sauce.... Go for the TRIPLE DIP!

They still give those out at my place.
