[quote name='mr ryles']maybe someone here has an answer. So my old room mate moved out and the gas and electric bills are in her name still, I need to go get them transferred over to my name. Should be wham bam thank you ma'am, but I hear something about having to pay deposit. Which sounds like total bullshit. No connection needs to be established, just put the shit in my name.
The only thing I can come up with is the 2 people I have talked to really have no line of credit. So could it just be a deal like when I got internet hooked up in here? People where saying there was gonna have to be a deposit to be paid, but they run my name, and because I'm young male and white no deposit was needed to be paid.

Depends on the company and what the service is dude.
Some install techs are just lazy and so are the CSRs -- I had an account with Time Warner for god knows how long before someone realized I'd never paid a deposit as I was upgrading my DVR box -- deposit was charged to me in the next bill.
However, I can say I've never personally had to have a deposit with a power company -- my mother, however, needed a deposit, because the gas was on site in a tank and not via line, hence the deposit was for the tank... so I guess it depends on your company and what services you're turning on exactly.
One thing to note is that it's never a

ing cakewalk with the power companies -- I needed to open a new account whenever I changed addresses... so that's one thing to consider -- they won't switch anything likely, it'll be a new account instead.
