Patapon $20 In stores NOW!

Question:
I'm pretty early in the game, and I just beat the first boss (stupid dinosaur). Now I'm at a place right after the boss where there is a really hot desert and when I get to it all my guys get hurt and die. All I have is defense, moving forward and attack.
I like the idea of ONE type of aerial unit. A "Monsterpon" unit. A "Medic" unit. Multiplayer at all would be great and I think that more stage specific items should pop up. The one catapult stage wasn't enough :(. Oh, and sea battles.

BUT

Most of all...

Pause button assigned to the L button. It's easy to get to without us having to lose our rhythm.
if you look at the very first trailer, they were gonna have seige towers, cannon blimps and flying units. Sea battles would be rawking. "monsterpon" would be great do you mean like a guy who controls monsters or one who rides like mini dragons

New official blog tip from friday's update.

Goes over army, weapons and other items. *Mild spoilers for those who aren't far into the game*

Patapost Friday: Pata-Tips #2

+ Posted by Chris Hinojosa-Miranda // Associate Producer, SCEA
So by now many have you hopefully have passed the nasty desert, took down a few bosses, and can catch the FEVER like you were one of those cats from Outbreak.
Now let’s talk about amp-ing up your Patapon army. As you have probably have found out, success in this game takes rhythm and focus, but that will only get you so far. You are going to have to build a bad-a$$ army, arm them to the teeth, and know how to put them to work.

“Where do they get those wonderful toys?”
Helmets, Shields and Weapons “Oh My!” There are a ton to collect in this game, if you keep on fighting the Zigotons, they will drop goodies left and right.

You can also acquire more gear from boss levels. You can replay boss levels infinitely, but as the level goes up so does the difficulty so man up your troops as you go along. Just as a sample here are some of the helmets you can score:
 • wood helm = is standard issue
 • iron helm = boosts stamina
 • steel helm = boosts both stamina and defense
 • wind helm = quickens attacks and resists flames
 • strength helm = greatly boosts attacks
 • ancient helm = greatly improves basic skills
 • Giant Turtle helm = greatly improves defense
 • Divine helm = resists flames and has destabilizing capabilities
“Simply Diviiine”
If you want the best of the best weaponry, nothing can beat “Divine Weapons.” While playing boss levels like the Mythical Stone Goliath Gaeen, you will see Mythril randomly drop.

Don’t run away or you’ll miss all the heavenly glory!
Take the Mythril to the blacksmith (which doesn’t unlock until later in the game), and if the user performs the blacksmith mini-game without error, the user will score a divine weapon. You can get one divine weapon per squad: Divine Spear, Bow, Horn, etc….

“Special Forces”
Not all Patapons are created equal. Rare-apons are Patas you customize yourself by offering things to Mater, the Tree of Life. To create Rare-apons mix any one of the top rare drops of the three categories (meat, rock, or wood). Combine 2 of the 3 rare drops together at the tree of life, to create a rare-apon.

Each of these Super-pons have special abilities:
 • Pyokola (Orange) = slightly better all around stats then your standard Yaripon
 • Mefeel ( Light Purple) = has the highest armor versus projectile weapons
 • Gekolos ( lime green) = has the fastest attack
 • Barsala ( Dark Green) = is the best rounded of all
 • Mogyoon ( Dark Purple) = deals the most damage of all
 • Tikulee ( Blue) = has the highest critical chance of damage
So which item combos yield which Rarepons? For this, we turn to Super Pata-fan AxelCloud’s YouTube page. He (or she!) spent a good amount of time making home videos of his (or her!) uber-rare Pata-force.

Thanks AxelCloud, may you make it safely to Earthend!

;_; damn that all sounds so nice.

And by Monsterpon I mean like capturing the big animals from hunting missions to use in battle. But you can only use them once in a stage. After that they are let go at the end or die. That way it won't be broken as the bigger animals (the crab thingys, the beetle thingies) have high HP. So I think it would be cool to use one as a special weapon for taking down big bosses or castles.

EDIT: So I beat the game and...
And what a funny ending. The Queen popping up out of nowhere was so weird though. I'm like "Shouldn't you be dead? People do die in this game!" I like that they hint at a sequel with the Zigatons as your new found friends (after you've probably enslaved them all anyway, you horrible patapons). But now I can so see all those fun things like blimps, sea battles, and controller monsters. It will be so much fun to discovery new tribes and animals with our Patapon army in the sequel.
What's a good endboss strategy?
Personally, I had been farming so much ka-ching and divine weapons that my Megapons have two "Devil Horned" memebers in it, plus the divine horn, my yaripons have one "Devil and one Angel plus the divine helm and spear, and my archerpons have two Devils plus the divine bow and that really big bow, failnaught or whatever it's called.

First time I played I had none of that lol. And I got really really close to beating Gorl.

So as far as strategy goes...
As you can see, that's my winning team set-up. It's gotten me to a level 15 Gaeen so they aren't a pack of chumps. Gorl has like three attacks it seems in both forms, total. That charged up super energy ball thing which I'm guessing can be defended. I don't think retreating will help but next time you play, see if it tracks. His snatch and zap move which I don't think you can really avoid unless you have your pons retreating before he attempts to take one. And after the transformation he has that belly slide move which can be defended against. So all I did to beat him was wail on him on all cylinders. My team was SO strong that he changed forms like after 4 rounds of attack. The best thing you can do is have the strongest weapons and to take something from the chef with you to give you that extra boost. He's really not hard at all. I found the Cioking to be much more difficult to fight. Plus, if you beat the shit out of Gorl enough he'll drop Mythril.

I find that close range attackers like Dekapons, Kibapons, and Tatepons to be useless after awhie in this game. Bosses like to keep you at arm's legnth literally so they can grab you or smash you or swipe at you. Plus they always retreat and if your army of archers/yaripons/megapons are strong enough you can get enough hits off when a boss is retreating to interupt their retreat. That's how you know you are kicking some ass. Plus you don't have to waste time catching up the boss. You can just keep attacking because he'll still be in the range of your Megapons. And since you are using all ranged attackers, that keeps the action away from your flag toting leader.

I have a bunch of little gripes about Patapon but I love this game and the price makes it so I can't really complain seriously. I should really stop grinding the hunting missions though...
I just could not get into this game at all. Even for $20. I ended up trading it on goozex for 650 points
are you kidding me this IS the best psp game! i would even say one of my top favorite games
it's not my fave PSP game (sill MGA2), but this game is very damn good. It did everything Loco Roco was trying to do. Definitely a better release than GoW IMHO.
Since GoW was just another GoW and didn't do anything to further game design in any way? Oh and it was twice the price and a third of the the average Patapon play time?

Yeah Patapon is in my top ten. For sure. I hated Loco Roco. I'd sell that piece of crap if it were profitable.

I feel like doing a top ten list.

10: Burnout Legends
09: Megaman Powered Up
08: Daxter
07: DJ Portable Max 2
06: Gundam Game (that one you know... there's been two so far. The really fun and good one! From Japan!)
05: Wipeout Pulse/Pure
04: Patapon
03: Jeanne D'Arc
02: Ridge Racer 2
01: Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
00 (honorable mention): MGS: PO (It could have been perfect)
No Metal gear Acid 2 love? that game is legendary IMHO. Good plot and gameplay and design and and...
And some of the most jiggly tits this side of DoA. Mammary heaven.

I actually like MGA2. It's just that those top ten games managed to grab my attention, no, snatch my attention from me and force me to play them until I saw the end credits. I'll finish MGA2 one day. It looks like soon with this PSP game drought. I never played FF7 so Crisis Core is kinda meh to me. That leaves me with GoW which I'll get one of these days.

did everyone finish this game already? i just (finally) finished the demo tonight. finished in only an hour........had i known that it wasn't the 2+ hours i had read elsewhere, i would have dug in to this sooner. I love what i've seen so far........can't wait to crack the real game open.

hopefully i don't end up grinding the hunting missions though........I could easily see myself doing that......

very fun game........I sure hope it is rewarded with some good sales numbers.....

I finally picked this up today. I picked it up used, though, because it was $5 cheaper, and I got a free $15 game with it because of a BOGO free for $15 used games at GameRush. Oh well, I'm sure the sales numbers won't be affected too much by my 1 unit.

I can't wait to start playing through the levels past the demo.
Did you hear? EA announced they're bringing Patapon to the DS.
Could that be a "Pr0nstar" shirt on the blond character? The game is "a new videogame property for boys and girls under 12"...

OK, I finally started getting into this game and I'm liking it but I seem to be stuck. I can't figure out the Don Don beat. I get into Fever and then repeat the Don Dons as they come up on the screen - it all goes well until I get to the DonDonPataDon instruction and nothing I do seems to work. Any tips?
