Path of Neo - you've GOT to see the ending of the game.
with probably the same result. When was the last time an Atari game lived up to the hype?
Ikaruga, anyone?

If I'm not mistaken, didn't they do the DBZ games too? I'm not much of a fan of Anime games, but having played the PS1/Saturn games, they did a much better job of the whole affair.

I'm surprised.. I just looked at the footage, and the gameplay looks fun as hell. I'm going to check it out this weekend (three day weekend from work, gotta love working for the bank :) )
Oh yes. Very, very, very, VERY much so.

I dunno, I just kept doing it.
Man, this game sounds like a lot of fun. Hollywood didn't have it in last night, so I guess Friday will be the day, despite what the website said.

Scorch, it seems like my odd sense of humor has "definately" rubbed off on you.

Hate to break it to you guys looking forward to the game but its terrible.

Here's some impressions I wrote about the game on other forums (GAF, PA). Other people's thoughts about the game who have played it tend to concur. Note that this was written yesterday so I have actually put more time into the game. Unforunately it still sucks.

The only way I can possibly mentally justify my purchase of this game is knowing that I have prevented other people from buying this trash.

"So I bought the game earlier today against my better judgement. Consider me fooled twice. Shame on me.

It's terrible. I mean really embarrassing awful. So bad that the only thing I want to do right now is hunt down Dave Perry, shove the game up his ass, and take $50 out of his wallet.

I've only played about 2 hours but I dare say that this game may be worse than EtM. Absolutely none of the core mechanics of EtM have been improved upon. Same clunky melee combat with terrible collission detection and seemingly no transitions between animations. I just got done a samruai sword fight; I wish I had a capture card or something just to show everyone how embarassingly awkward the animations are. Gunplay has actually become worse now that it uses lockon. The graphics can be absolutely awful at times with some atrocious texture work. Worst of all the game is simply mind numbingly boring. They make you play an extended version of Neo's escape from the office building for about 20 minutes (which plays out completely different than the movie).

I'm pist to say the least. Avoid the game as if it was HIV. At this point, I seriously believe Shiny has become unredeemable. They should be banned from making games altogether."

I liked ETM, so I'll eventually pick this one up (might be an xmas purchase). I hate bad framerates with a passion, and only have a PS2. Is it still worth it? I'm also a casual Matrix fan.
Hate to break it to you guys looking forward to the game but its terrible. "
which console did you play it on?

After about 2 hours of play (mostly all the training stuff) I can say that it is better than Enter the Matrix. Now, before you celebrate, it still isn't up to snuff. I like the Matrix, so I can look passed wanky controls, bad animations, and a bad camera. But if you can't look passed that, don't get this game. Its fun, but only because I always wanted to play as Neo.

looking past those three things in an action game is like looking past every single action game ever made.

I honest-to-god think some of you people have become completely spoiled and don't know how to have fun with a game anymore.

Yeah, there can be some bad collision detection. The graphics aren't the best in the world. The music isn't from the movie. Some animations don't really transfer to one another.

But for god's sake, when I can kick a guy in the stomach, spin around and punch a guy in the face, backflip over a guy and kick him in the head then catch him in mid-air, slam him to the ground and spin him in a circle, i'm having fun. The game's not perfect, but for those of us without a stick in our ass, it's a hell of a lot of fun.

I guess maybe i'm not as bitter as some of you because I didn't pay for it, I just used left over store credit. Maybe that's why i'm enjoying it much more. I'd like to take winter's complaints into question, but apparently he hasn't read up on the game. He wasn't aware that it doesn't 100% follow the movie.

Hey winter, you want to know why you found it boring? Because you didn't even get into the game! You mention swordplay and the office, both of which are prior to the actual game! You judged the game based on the freakin' training levels. You didn't get to the lobby fight, you didn't get to the helicopter, you didn't get to the subway fight, you didn't get to the burly brawl, you based the rest of the game on some mediocre training levels.

As far as a "bad camera" goes, hey, there's a second joystick.. and whatdya know, it controls the camera. Use it. I've only had one problem with the camera so far, and that was fixed after about 5 seconds.

Thanks for the extra information and such, Scorch.

So... if you didn't pay for this with store credit, how much would you have paid?

I'm seriously thinking about getting this game. I have a lot of money coming up soon, and I'm going to have to hold off on getting a 360 for a while, so it looks like I have some spending cash.

I wanna play it for the reason that you did: I want to kick people's asses in cool ways.

Wait till you get the burly brawl, it makes the game worth while. I agree with scorch on everything, this is some of the funnest game play Ived every had the chance to experience and thats coming with a guy with over 500 games.

So... if you didn't pay for this with store credit, how much would you have paid?

If I had the money, I would've dumped $50 on it. However, i'm not going to lie. $29.99 fits the bill, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over $39.99. Again, if you did not like Enter the Matrix's gameplay, you probably shouldn't bother here.

I'm like one level away from the burly brawl, I cannot friggin wait.

$36.99. That's a pretty good price. I don't have GameFly, though.

But maybe I will pick this up. My cousin just dropped off $30 for some work I helped him with. :)

You give me the winning Texas Lotto numbers for tonight, and I'll make sure you get taken care of, Mr. Psychic.

Firstly, I'm annoyed that "definately' is quoted so often and is continually spelled wrong each tme. :p

Secondly, I'm annoyed that even the PC version of PON doesn't look anywhere as good as any of the pics posted. I think Dave Perry misled a lot of people, including me, in how good the graphics would be. I honestly don't see a bit of improvement over Enter the Matrix's visuals, which baffled me as to what the developers have been doing for the past 2 years.

Thirdly, I'm a little annoyed that no official music is in this game. How could they not include it? Enter the Matrix had it, and I was hoping this game would a sort of "fanboy's dream" and would finally bring everything together for fans -- the use of Neo, all three movies playable, and what I wanted was the official soundtrack.
I'm a little annoyed that no official music is in this game. How could they not include it?
I love my stereo. I can turn down the music in the game and my stereo has a "game mix" option where I can play music and still hear the soundtrack.. hello official music!

Yep, my Sony stereo has that too. Pretty kick-ace.

So, Scorch, a few questions...

I read that review, and the game sounds fun. How's the code-vision and telekenesis features in the game? Is it really as fun as it sounds, to slow down time and change the path of bullets and such?

Huh? Telekinesis? Neo might be the one, but I don't see him flingin' chairs around with his mind. The code-vision is pretty cool when the game is paused, and pretty helpful in-game later on because you can see people sneaking up through other doors.

Slowing down time is no different than Max Payne, but yeah, it's pretty badass to completely stop bullets right before they hit you then send them back the direction they came.

//edit: I just noticed that stuff swirls around me (boxes, chunks from the wall, etc) when I stop bullets.. so.. it's cool.

Sounds cool.

The "telekinesis" they referred to in the review was moving around bullets and such.

Looks like I am probably picking this up soon.

Anyway, if I turn out to hate it, I know where you live.

Uhhhhhhh..

Well, during that fight with Seraph (I think that's his name/how you spell it), you drop in a theatre where they're playing Matrix Reloaded in the background, and Neo and Seraph turn around to watch themselves on the screen. It's at this point that the game loses seriousness and I lose interest. Things were decent but whoever's decision that was should be kicked in the head. That kills the whole game for me.

Yeah, I've heard that the game is serious, then jokey and ridiculous, then serious, then jokey... and so on.

What do you mean that it killed the game for you? You're regretting the game now, or you just don't like that one part?

 So can we be expecting you to delete your posts in this thread?

BTW, I don't really blame you, that joke wasn't even funny when they did something like it back on Blazing Saddles.

Ya the gamespot review mentioned something about it getting a bit...odd....at about the midpoint of the game.

No. I won't take back what I said. It's a good game.. I just don't like the direction the story line's taken, and I don't like how the burly brawl ended. I'm at the Chateau fight right now, but i'm kinda scared to see the direction it'll go. I'll probably return this for full credit while I still can.. i'll pick it up again one day.. i'm going to miss the fighting stuff, especially the burly brawl scene (which i'll play a few more times), but i'm not going to keep a game that I got at full price when the story mode sucks. I made that mistake with Halo 2, I won't make that same mistake twice.

Just for the record, I am having fun with the game. Its just that I'm noticing the issues while I'm having fun. Punching people through walls is great, so are many of the punches. I actaully wince every time I see the big punch that completely smashes an enemy's face.

As for the camera, it isn't very good. Yes, I know I can move it, but it gets hella bad when trying to aim and there are more than 2 enemies on screen, and if I turn round to fight someone hand to hand, the camera doesn't follow, which makes it difficult to follow what is going on.

All in all though, I am having fun. Maybe not $50 dollar fun, but if you are a fan of the Matrix, its great at $30. Luckily, I used $34 in Best Buy Bucks, so I don't feel so bad ;)

Yeah, I hate games where the story gets lame in the middle. Looks like this is just a rental, then.

Well, I still need to finish Far Cry, anyway.

The timing just sucks. I can't afford to keep this when I can return it for $50 in store credit and get another 360 game with it! I look forward to playing it again, though.

Too bad there's no online component. You'd think with cramming a bajillion agent smith's on the screen, there could've been some sort of online play.

i dunno i may just save it. i'm already getting PD:Zero, Condemned, PGR3, Kameo and CoD 2. I don't really know of any other 360 games that spark my interest.. NHL2K6 does, but i'm not paying $60 when I could get the other for $40 cheaper. I'm thinkin about Quake 4 but it depends on how many CAGs get it.. two shooters is enough, I dunno about three.. hell, maybe four depending on if you count Condemned as a shooter or not.

Hey scorch, wait till you see the ending. Trust me, its not what you would expect. If anyone wants to know, I will post a spoil post to reveal the "new" ending.

your gonna return it for full credit? where'd you buy it from? I thought gamestop and ebgames abanoned that policy along time ago.

I'm fighting ants right now.

Yes, ants. You read that correctly.

Heh, a long time ago I did. The game's not worth more than $10 if you just wanted to play the story mode.
