Pc girl's thread to include info on Big Lots, Half Price Books, Books a Million&more

PcGirl

CAGiversary!
Hi Guys,

It's been suggested to me that it would be better for all CAGs for me to start my own thread. I have inside information on which closeout pc games are being shipped to major retailers in the country.

This thread will include info (meaning title specific deals) on:

Big Lots
Half Price Books
Books a Million
Oops Outlets
Inetvideo.com
Amazon.com
Gogamer.com
Five Below
Ollie's
Staples
Marshalls
TJ Maxx

Look for frequent postings to begin soon. I'm so excited!

Just picked off the only copies of Mirror's Edge, Mercenaries 2, and Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway LE (comes with an action figure) at the Eastpointe, MI store.

Thought i would mention that I was at Books a million yesterday and saw a lot of PC titles 6.99. Most seemed like garbage but there were a few decent titles in there.

PS:
They also had a ton of 1.00 books.
Not long ago they started a small test in certain stores and are now rolling it out to over 170 stores. There's a strong likelihood your store will have them soon. Their standard price is $6.97 on the games, but you can also get 10% off if you have their discount card. They have a pretty strong selection - last I noticed Tomb Raider Anni., PoP, and a few others. Worth a look for sure - from what I know it should be in most of those stores within the next two weeks. Check either near the front of the store or near the Graphic Novel section if you don't see it at first.
The product should be in all stores now! And it is $ 6.97! And it should be close to the front of the store in a bin. Izod knows all.:applause:

Mount and Blade showed up very momentarily at big lots, did it not? I've always wanted to try that game, if only for the risque and humorous title.

It did. But only once. And it went well. It will be back.

I stop in the Omaha Nebraska Furniture Mart occasionally and would be interested in what gets sent to them. Its not far out of my way home from work.

Nice compilation so far, thanks. Keep it up!
Dropped by Big Lots yesterday and picked up Act of War: Direct Action ($4), Prince of Persia ($6), and Downfall: The Longest Journey Game of the Year Editon ($6). I was on the fence about Mercenaries 2, I might go back to pick that up. I also got a handful of DVDs for $3 each.
It was the GOTY edition of Dreamfall that got shipped? Do Want!!!

Thanks for the thread PC girl. It is greatly appreciated!

Dreamfall is a great game. It isn't quite as good as the Longest Journey but still worth your time if you like adventure games. A word of warning, I think Dreamfall has Starforce as its DRM.

My gratitude for compiling this thread PCgirl. I have not heard of Dreamfall before, but I do see the chatter here. Will have to take a lot at some reviews/screenshots.
smile

I want to echo other's comments - thanks so much - the information is so very valuable!! Keep up the fantastic work!!!

I just saw the special edition of Command and Conquer Generals in a Big Lots. $6. Worth it? (I loved CC3 and Red Alert 3)

I also saw that they AGAIN removed the super cool plastic "evidence" bag from all the copies of the game Evidence. I am glad I got my copy that still had the cool packaging. It's so OBVIOUS that the game is meant to be in that packaging. Why does someone keep removing them?

I am going to go back and see if they got a copy of Dreamfall in. I played The Longest Journey and I want more.

As a parent I appreciate the family titles included in your lists. My daughter's attention span for games is very short so I like to pick them up as cheap as possible.

Thanks!

When I bought it I had no idea it contained both the original, Longest Journey and it's sequel, Dreamfall. I thought it only had the sequel, so I was surprised, but I'm not complaining. 2 games for $6? Win!\\:D/

Hey PC Girl, random question. Do you guys also sell to Best Bargain Books? There's only 3 of them, all on LI so if you do, that's probably why you haven't mentioned them. But they do have a lineup of $5.99 games that are pretty simlar to Big Lots'sss's's'.
Everyone interested in Dreamfall should know that it does use Starforce. Just a warning.
The North American version does not. It's only the European ones.

Yes, please. I live near the KC Nebraska Furniture Mart.

BTW, I think Half Price Books sent out coupons through email for next week. The usual 20% Mon, 30% Tues, 40% Wed and 50% Sun coupons.

Do you have much luck with her lists in Austin? I feel like I've vowed twice to myself to never revisit a BigLots! I just don't ever find anything there and the joint smells bad.

I've never really compared her lists to the HPBs in Austin.

The guy whose desk is next to mine communicates with HPB every week. I'll make sure to get some kind of auto-posting about the coupons.

Thanks for the info, just went to my local Big Lots that opened literally a few days ago, and there they were, copies of Mirror's Edge, Prince of Persia and some others. $6 a piece. Great deal and couldn't have got them without you, thanks once again!

This thread is a week old and 5 pages long already. Love your posts PC girl, but you really need to consider just editing your first post. Its been mentioned here more than once. In another week it will be a royal pain to see all that you have posted. Considering how long it takes to get stuff here on the west coast, I may have to dig through 10 pages of posts to see what is just hitting my big lots out here.

I'm new to this, so please clarify what you mean by "editing my first post". What I decided to do is only post titles once they ship. Sometimes we sell a good title in February that doesn't ship until April. I initially thought this info was important in case someone was contemplating the purchase of a particular title at regular price. If they knew they could wait a couple of months and get it for $ 6.00, I thought it would help. But after the few comments, I determined that it would get confusing and that I should only post when software has actually shipped.

Please help.

PCgirl;)

My store didn't get a copy of Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway L I think, the ONLY game I was looking forward to, too :( Thanks for the updates though PcGirl!

I'm pretty sure they mean instead of posting through out the thread, you can edit your first post (the first post in the thread) to keep all the prices/locations/games in there. Like others do in other deal threads, check out the sears/kmart/target clearance threads. Its a lot easier for people to look for updates in the first post then dig through a long thread for them :) keep up the good work

as someone said below, you can edit your own posts. Look at the bottom right side of the first post in this thread you will see a button that says edit.

You can add, erase text as needed. Perhaps have a section for just BIG LOTS and add in new shipments by date, if it gets too long, just delete old stuff. Have a section for half price books, etc.

Once you hit the limit on the size of your first post, start a new thread. When you start a new thread, make your first post, then reply to your first post 2 or 3 times and type RESERVED, that way you have have more than one post to edit over time. This is established practice and the mods will not complain, Your posts are appreciated by the CAG community.

No. There will be too many updates to add to a single post. Continue the way you're going, PCGirl. People will just have to check in and keep up.

I'm with Longfellow. PC Girl is covering a variety of retailers and has a lot of new info on a regular basis. Posts would be erased/edited before people would see them and it would be much more cumbersome for her to edit around a giant page one post than just post a new one - not to mention she likes chatting with users and simply editing one page is going to be about as interesting for her as mowing the lawn. This format also allows her to answer people's questions as she's posting new info. Just skip ahead to the next page you haven't read when you log in. It took me less than five minutes to read all of these initial posts.

PC Girl - thanks for taking the time to provide all of this useful information! It is greatly appreciated. :applause:

I also agree with Longfellow. I like to check back and see what stuff shipped out earlier because my Big Lots is last on the list to get stuff in. If she updates the first post and erases past info I might miss something.
No. There will be too many updates to add to a single post. Continue the way you're going, PCGirl. People will just have to check in and keep up.
Agreed. Everytime she updates it it gets an automatic bump as well if she keeps doing it the way she's doing it. Keep up the good work PcGirl!
