could not vote absentee since i was in town today

2nd early voting was worse

personally i really dont care if i voted or not.... you know for a fact that obama ripped off the election this year

One of the major reason why i would never vote for obama was lack of exp... This is what really turned me off from even voting for mcclain when he picked that women for VP she has no Exp either

There are going to be places that would kill for a 3 hour wait. They were looking at 5+ for early voting. It could be even more today.

Rachel Maddow had an interesting thing about availability of voting being the new poll tax.

most states allow up to 3 hours to vote. most places are open till 8pm tonight.

Some places allowed voting at midnight yesterday or 12am today.
 
Yep could have done absentee, and polls are open pretty long (7am-8pm for me). Most working people can find time to vote somewhere in there unless they're working a 12 hour shift or something. In which case they could do absentee since your job truly prevents you from voting.

In short, quit bitching because you're too lazy to find time to stand in line, and/or uninformed about eligibility for absentee voting.

people tried this locally in 2004 and did not have a leg to stand on. they said vote before or after work

BTW, in most states, simply being in line to vote before 6PM means you're going to be permitted to vote. So stop crying, lazy.

anyway, i thought it was federal law (could be state of california) that employers are required to give you 2 hours paid time off to vote if youre unable to do so outside of work hours.

People who make voting seem like going to the dentist to get a tooth pulled make me crazy. It's an hour of your time (max), and couldn't get much simpler.

If you have long lines at your polling place, tough shit. You should have voted absentee if you don't want to take the chance of voting in person taking up so much of your time.

Each state is different, Wisconsin gives 3 hours but you have to work it with the employer on when.

and as someone else stated, if you're IN LINE before 8pm, you will get to vote... if it takes you till 11pm.

so really there is only the excuse of laziness... blame that on the sin SLOTH.

I live in Iowa and the polls are open from 7am til 9pm (that's 14 hours). Not to mention that you could vote early the last two weeks or so.

Still the polls are open at least 10 hours, so I bet one can find 2 hours for one day every 4 years to stand in line and vote.

This is the kind of attitude that makes me optimistic. If you can't devote an hour or two to changing the country, then we don't want you. Like others said, you easily could have voted absentee or mail-in. There is NOTHING your employer can do to you if you are voting - if you're not there, they cannot legally fire you on those grounds if you can prove that's where you were.

out here it was not required, depends on the employer
also it depended on how far the voting place was from work for how many hours you have to vote

Yeah, in fact, I'd love to be in the position where my employer tried to deny me the right to vote. Seems like there could be some tasty legal recourse.
 
I was watching Bill Maher the other night and someone raised a good point that we should either have elections on a weekend or make election day a national holiday. That for so long we insisted yet again on this bullshit of "keeping tradition" having the election on Tuesday. It's time we grew the fuck up and started doing things relevent to the times instead of sticking with the obsolete way because it makes us feel warm and fuzzy inside.

I got a memo from HR today saying that they are encouraging everyone to vote, however:

-You must report to work on time.
-You cannot leave if you have after school duties (carpool, clubs).

but once your done you can go vote.

...and whenever he types a message or sends an email he types as if he were a drunk epileptic 4 year old for whom English wouldn't even qualify as a second language.

That said, the difference is that I'm certain he has the intelligence you lack. Just because he types like a dunderhead, he's still too smart to make the majority of the idiotic comments you just did.
