Persona 4 - $36.99 on Amazon now! (was $34.99)
I feel bad for the person that gets screwed. xD

Yeah, seriously. If I were that guy, I'd have openly complained, asked for the DM's number, and cancelled my pre-order right there.
Just like I said, it was an extra they had.
I specifically asked him if that was ok, and he said it was fine as they "might" get more next week.

You said he hooks you up with an extra. We assumed that it meant an extra for you, not an extra for the store. ;)

Not blaming you in any case, man. I'm saying that if I found out a GS employee gave away my pre-order bonus, I'd have raised a shit storm on them.

I guess it was an extra for both of the store and myself.

Well...thanks for understanding anyway.
Well in response to something I said, you said "Amazon never ships pre-orders until release date".

Well, has the release date passed? Is the release date today?

In your logic, no orders should not have shipped, yet some have.

Normally I wouldn't care or even comment on it, but since you said that as a smartass remark, I'd call that ironic.
Wow, thank you, Mr. Technical. You must be a real hit at parties.
Wow, thank you, Mr. Technical. You must be a real hit at parties.
We're on the internet. Nobody here is a hit at parties.

freebie shipping and my order is set to ship. btw, amazon ships before release. As of recent, I've even received gears 2 a day before release from them. Left 4 Dead, on the other hand, came way after release.

Guy said the artbook hadn't come in yet after rifling through the goody drawer. This particular gamestop has never screwed me out of a preorder item, but still people talking on the internet about getting multiple copies makes me worry. fuck it, I'm just going to relax and wait until it comes out.

People who are obsessing over the book, you can complain to Atlus if you don't get it.

When people didn't get their DDS 2 OST disc from Gamestop they sent out extras to those who complained.

There's still time to pre-order at Amazon.com!
We're on the internet. Nobody here is a hit at parties.
I am, but I don't talk much about video games; even when I encounter another gamer, I am usually disappointed by their lack of knowledge or passion for anything decent ("I'm level bazzillion on CoD! I'd PWN yoU!"), so I content myself to make political jokes and put things in drunk people's laps.
I love Japan's game companies, but I wish they would pay attention to what other countries are doing with game develepment.
I don't know, man; I think it's a lot more complicated than that. The smaller publishers are spending their time on PSP/DS games that we'll never see here. We'd likely really enjoy them. Just because they can't all afford to make Western-style racers and shooters doesn't mean they're lagging behind. I think even we're rather lagging behind, technology over innovation.

I think Japan will surprise us, but it won't be because they're trying to pander to a western market. Part of the problem is that 360 and PS3 had not been selling so well in Japan, but PSP and DS were selling like crazy, so most publishers took their development over to that side of things.

Atlus, on the other hand, is likely one of the companies that we would suggest has fallen behind. We'd accuse them of rehashing the same, 1990s RPG conventions. I, of course, don't agree with that, but then again, Atlus is pretty much under the radar when it comes to what we westerners like to yammer about, for the most part.
American companies (or at least non-Japanese companies) are churning out just as much bare-bones stuff as Japan. The Imagine series from Ubisoft started last year and must be well over 20 titles by now.
I'd probably have a lot more interest in what the Japanese companies are "churning out," honestly, because it's weird, quirky RPGs. I read about so much cool stuff in the TGS reports on DS, like the Wizard of Oz psycho RPG, that will never be released here. We're lucky we got The World Ends with You, which totally tanked in Japan (who knows why--Square Enix is on strange ground lately) but was a rousing success for some reason in Europe and the States.

I think this whole "Japan has fallen behind" thing has gotten out of control to the point where it's almost sabotaging Japanese companies. It's just this strange idea that we've all decided to believe. But heck, maybe it's exactly the punch Japanese companies need. I just hope they don't become too western. I have never been a huge fan of western games, at least not the mainstream stuff, and the hardest thing for me this generation has been the lack of fun, weird Japanese stuff, which has always been my mainstay.

I think the 360, which is basically a PC in a box, gaining market share in the States is partly to blame. The West already knows how to program for PC, so it's only a few steps over to do 360. Japan, on the other hand, knows consoles, not PC, and their 360 stuff, at least what's been released here, has not been very interesting, even to me.

So you'd think they'd be great on the PS3, and I'm still hoping (anticipating, really) that this will happen, that the PS3 will absorb that niche that the PS2 always had, the quirky, Japanese side of things, but lack of sales thus far in Japan for the PS3 has hurt things. That's changing now, as PS3s (and even 360s) are finally selling. Hopefully White Knight Story will sell more PS3s and get people going. The last thing they need to do is make more western games. For every Dead Rising, which was a good success, there will be two Last Remnants and Infinite Undiscoveries, and whatever you might think of them as games (I will probably play them both eventually), the are not selling well.

The lack of big, leading Square Enix efforts on PS3 really hurts, and Dragon Quest IX being on the DS really damages things as well. I think it's just slowed the whole console generation down, so if anything, that's where Japan is lagging behind. They just aren't at the point yet where they're ready to develop what we're looking for. We need more Valkyria Chronicles and Folklore and things like that.

Wii Sports is part of the problem, whatever you might think of it, but that hits a totally different demographic than us anyway. There's a whole fuss lately about I guess the "softcore" in Japan. There's a lot of money to be made there, but the focus will probably shift again.
3. When I said that about other countries, I meant games like GTAIV, Halo, any of Bioware's games. Stuff like that. I sure as hell don't take the Imagine series seriously!
That kind of stuff has just never done well in Japan anyway, and so to imply that they are behind because they aren't making games like that is, I think, erroneous. They'll find their own niche, as they always have, but it won't be by trying to ape western development.

Take heart, my friends and fellow gamers! The glory days of this generation for Japanese development are yet to come, but they're on the way. P4 is a harbinger of good things to come, and if it sells well, and the reviews continue to be so positive, amazing things can truly happen because of it!

And finally...
I believe he has credit because he's been flipping. ;) Half.com doesn't work for that.
Eh, flipping? What is this of which you speak? A technique I am untrained in?

Sorry this is so long! Just caught me at a weird, yacky moment, I guess. I have a paper I'm writing for class that I'm only half done with; I should have been saving my yacky for that!

That's sort of messed up
Why? If a customer pre-orders and GS screws up or steals their bonus (it's happened to me), shouldn't Atlus help out?
No, and its kind of annoying that Atlus is such a great company....yet so many people here take advantage of them or wont support their stuff less its like $20 WITH all the extras.
So, it sucks that Atlus is awesome and gives their customers what they pay for?

You guys have been living in the U.S. too long.
Naw man, I see what he's saying; it's more like it sucks that Atlus has to do that because of Gamestop. It's awesome that Atlus helps out, but it's lame that they should have to take a hit like that when Gamestop can't regulate their pre-orders and staff properly.

I love Atlus. I'm going to try to support their products right as they go out the door more often rather than waiting for price drops. It's easy when P4 is getting so much great press, is at a good price, comes with extras, and is the follow-up to one of the most interesting JRPGs to be released here since... well... a long time.

Yay, Atlus.

If that's what he means, then I agree.

Atlus should always package the art books inside the game case, this way we can solve the problems of abusive customers and employees all at once.
If that's what he means, then I agree.

Sorry, I edited my message after you replied to it. I don't think I added anything you wouldn't agree with still, though!

Yeah, you're right, they should do that probably, but then again, Gamestop doesn't think twice about gutting game boxes when it suits them.

Frankly, my blanket solution is just to not shop at Gamestop. I'm lucky I have Amazon, or I wouldn't really know what to do. I used to shop at WaldenSoftware, and even after EB bought them out, I still did, but after the Gamestop merger, nope, done-zors for me.

I mean that

1. Again it pisses me off that this game is $35 with so many great extras and yet instead of supporting Atlus we have people here talking about trying to nickle and dime them for an extra $5 on a price drop

2. That its one thing to contact Atlus and say hey gamestop screwed me out of a pre order can you hook me up, its another to contact them acting like its their fault and they should be paying the extra fees. Gamestop screws up and Atlus gets the anger.

I really hate gamestop. I'm at the point where i simply boycotting them. They did the same crap to me with Valkyria Chronicles. I managed to get an art book after a friend of mine dug to get me one. Then there is the issue that you can't buy games on release unless its preordered. How is it that a company that focuses on one thing do it so terribly? These are the same guys bitching that they are having problems stocking rock band/guitar hero kits. Best Buy + Amazon + Mom & Pops for me only.
I am not sure why anyone would go with gamestop instead of amazon here
I agree, you even get Free Shipping, you really can't go wrong with Amazon, especially if you are an Atlus fan.
I agree, you even get Free Shipping, you really can't go wrong with Amazon, especially if you are an Atlus fan.
And if you're in the lucky majority, you don't even pay sales tax. Apparently they have a shipping center or... something... in my state. Lame! That sales tax really adds up! :p Especially on the PS3 I'm buying.
I really hate gamestop. I'm at the point where i simply boycotting them.
Me too. Others disagree with me, but I think they're anathema to the industry. I don't like their used game practices. It's one thing to sell your games yourself on-line, or to sell them to a mom and pop store, but Gamestop is a used game empire. They'll do everything in their power to get your games from you for minimal credit, then charge you $5 less for used than you'd pay new. They stop stocking new entirely and just keep buying and selling their same stock back and forth. If only consumers knew what was going on, things would be different.

Again, I think they're bad for the industry. It's barely a step above software piracy if you ask me, but I feel pretty passionately about the topic, and again, many people disagree with me (even going so far as to say Gamestop is good for the industry, so obviously there are many opinions beyond just my rather grumpy one, and I'm certainly no economist).

I sure have been posting a lot in this damn thread today. I'm almost done with my paper! Stop distracting me! :)

I agree on gamestop. Its pretty damn rare that I buy anything from them. Most of it I can find elsewhere for cheaper. The only stuff I have bought from them is games that I see in the $1-$3 range since shipping breaks buying this stuff here, on amazon or from ebay.

My amazon copy shipped! I got the free shipping (not release date) and it's already shipped! It's estimated to arrive on the 15th but I have a feeling it'll come earlier than that. Woooooo!!!

Went ahead and pre-ordered one from Amazon. I got Persona 3 and Eternal Poison on the cheap BF weekend so I'll add this one to the backlog as well.

My Gamestop didn't have the artbooks in. These aren't the kind of guys to give away pre-order bonuses, so I'm guessing they've either not opened the box or not gotten the shipment yet.

Before I started pretty much only buying games online I found that gamestop often had that problem. They hire too few employees a lot of times and others they simply dont give a shnick about doing their job. So this means boxes will sit unopened for a week. I had one time I didnt even get my freaking GAME itself till 2 or 3 days after release.
Weee, mine is "shipping soon!"
Yay, mine too! I should be getting mine Wed. if it's shipping Monday. I'm going to plan accordingly!

I got shipping soon as well, it might be due to my location but Free Shipping usually arrives within 1-2 days after the item ships even without Prime.

I think Atlus is trying to get Amazon to ship their pre-orders as close to release as possible since they closed they teamed up.

If we picked overnight ship and Amazon sends it out tonight, is there a chance it'll show up tomorrow? I'm not sure how UPS works on Sundays.
How much did overnight cost you?

You'll probably get it Tuesday.
3.99 with a prime trial. And yeah that's what I figured.
Yay, mine too! I should be getting mine Wed. if it's shipping Monday. I'm going to plan accordingly!
I probably won't be able to finish Persona 2: EP before then because it's finals week. :( But once finals are finally done Tuesday night I should be able to plow through the rest of it (maybe 2/3rds done right now?).

Man I hope this doesnt come on weds because I have school all day so I might miss the ups guy. Should I change my shipping method(I picked one day shipping)? :(

I've been checking my status on Amazon for a few days now and mine was "Shipping soon" since Thursday. Stop giving me false hopes, Amazon!

I ordered mine with free shipping on Sept. 28th, and it shipped yesterday afternoon. I might actually get to play it on release day, maybe.

Wait...why are some people's shipping now and some aren't? Mine isn't being delivered until the 12th and I have Prime. What gives?

Well that's a no bueno. I really want to get my hands on this game! :bouncy:

When I ordered Persona 3 FES and the same shit happened, people who ordered AFTER me got theirs shipped sooner. I called Amazon CS and they denied that this would happen. So who knows what exactly determines when different people's orders ship.
I'd say it depends on your location and/or your place in the queue.
I would say location maybe but not que. I pre ordered mine like 4 months ago I believe and it just listed as close to shipping or whatever. Method for being shipped should make a difference too. I placed mine with the free shipping option soooooo.
Wait...why are some people's shipping now and some aren't? Mine isn't being delivered until the 12th and I have Prime. What gives?
Amazon has a lot of warehouses. I would imagine they don't all get the game at the same time. The ones that have them are shipping them out. Mine is not :bomb:

I honestly think that the way Amazon ships is 1) Prime first, 2) other paid second, 3) Super Saver last. After that, it seems they actually tend to ship the ones who pre-ordered later before the ones who pre-ordered first. This just seems to be the case more and more often in these pre-order threads, so I came to that conclusion. Could be wrong. I don't think there's a real queue at all.

Ok well I ordered on Saturday, used 2-day free ship via Prime, and I live in AZ. So am I not sitting at the cool table like everyone else then? :p
