Here's a good solution, you don't think it's worth the money? Don't buy it, problem solved.
You morons that want everything for nothing? Grow up. Do you show up and work for free? Is your PC or bandwidth free? Was your Xbox free?
Why does Microsoft owe you anything? Why do developers owe you anything? Why should their work be given away? Don't want it, don't download it. How shaq fu'ing hard is that?
Don't like what I say? Have a heaping helping of PAD brand STFU.
I think their work is fully paid for in the thousands and millions of $50 games they sell. If a company sells 1 million copies of a game at $50 a pop, that's $50 million right there. Some movies don't even gross that much.
Shenmue cost around $20 million to make, and that is still the most expensive game to make. Do the math. Even after a few million dollars worth of advertising and production, they will still come out with profit. And that is just selling a measly 1 million copies. Most games are also sold in Europe and Asia, so those numbers increase everywhere you go and so do the profits.
All this talk about paying for downloadable content is crap to me. If I'm paying $50 a year or whatever for Xbox Live, then I should get all the downloadable content I want with it. Microsoft needs to work out some deal with the companies that offer downloadable content if they really want to get reimbursed.
A MMORPG is a different situation. It takes a lot of people to keep that going, so $10 a month is reasonable. But not $5 just for a few cars and a damn map. That is lame.
I think the gaming industry is trying to justify making gamers spend even more of their money. Microsoft has proven that online gaming can be profitable, but I don't think paying for content is the way to go. The game companies make enough money as it is off selling the game.
I've said it before. If a direct-to-video DVD can be sold at $15 each and the company still turn a profit, then that should show us gamers a thing or two.
How many games do you really think cost more to make than a movie? Probably not many. I firmly believe most game companies can make a profit if they sold their games at $20 a piece. They just don't want to do it because they've conditioned us to pay $50 for a damn CD.
Think about it for a minute. Why aren't we paying that much for DVDs? Sure the movie companies make money when it's in theaters, but the DVDs is where they make a lot of their money.
If gamers started talking with our wallets, companies will listen. Most people here don't buy brand new games, and I believe that's a good thing. Make them mark the prices down so it's easier on us. They will still make their money.
So the next time you lay down $50 on a game, think about it for a minute or two and ask yourself if it's really worth it.
