Is the English going to be as good as the first Phoenix Wright DS's English?

The translation on the first DS game was very superior -- one of the best translations I'd ever seen. I don't want to get some fobby Engrish version, or even just an ordinary transation... I want that same company to do this translation too~

Also, if the game's already done in English, why are they waiting so long to bring it over to the US again?
Should be similar in quality. I believe the delay to the US market is primarily a business decision.
OP, your referral links won't work here...sorry.
They get automatically converted to CAG's links.
Son of a--! Ah well, enjoy CAG...

I'm waiting for the American version because I enjoyed the first game's translation so much. I'm afraid that the Japanese version's "English support" might be a poor attempt. Maybe even Engrish. I'll wait for Capcom to give the script to the same translation team that seemed to have such a terrific grasp of the english language.

Sold out? I can't get past the "next step" part of the checkout page. It says "One or more products are currently not in stock."

EDIT: Maybe I should actually read the screen I'm looking at next time. I wasn't checking the box saying I understand it will only be shipped when it's in stock.

they are not going to translate the game twice, it will be the same team that translate the first game. Like SailorDaravon said, the delay doesnt have anything to do with translation.

Bought through referral link. I'm not exactly sure what perks you get by getting referrals, but you're gonna be swimming in them.

I still need to finish the first one! I stopped a month ago.. I have the 4th and 5th cases left, I'm pretty excited to beat this now after reading everyones exuberant posts!
Sticker sets are gone. RIGHT when I went to preorder. GAHHHHHHHH
Damnit, I forgot to order this last week. Those stickers do look nice on the Lite.

Um, I hope you're wrong on that. Looks like the Japanese version of the game could have really flawed, but probably passable English.

Both are understandable, but don't hold a candle to the AWESOME localization PW1 had. I'll hold off for the US release.

Not only will the US release likely have a better translation, but buying it will show Capcom that there is a market for unique games like this and will release more like it in the future!

Not all games from Japan have English options, so I'd like every game possible to get released here!

So please wait for the US release!

I'm on the fence, but I agree with JasonTerminator.

Besides, its not as if there aren't aglut of great games coming out the next 3 months!

So, I appreciate the deal, OP, but I'll wait.

Eh, I'll wait. It's not like I had the money anyway. We need to show Capcom that the Phoenix Wright series sells well in the US, that way we get a Pheonix Wright III, and maybe even a Wii Phoenix Wright. :D

When this arrives, I'll beat as fast as I can and sell it if the English turns out terrible.

I'm sure a lot of people on Ebay would want to play this.

The way translation work is that after the translation is done, it is given back to the original Japanese team to insert the text. They may or may not be able to fix any error in the US release. I am pretty sure we are past the age of people with second language doing translation. Many US release have error that didnt get fixed (most recent being Disagea 2).

As for supporting the series, I think there will be enough with people buying trying to resell thinking the game will be rare. At the same time in Japan PW DS didnt sell as well as the GBA games, and PW2 likely will do worst since there is nothing new. Japanese sales could be just as important in getting Capcom to release PW3. In the end I really dont think a handful of importers will be the tiebreaker in determining if PW3 will get a release.

FWIW, the Japanese version of PW1 had flawless translation.
I'll update the OP and front page to indicate the stickers are gone.

I've imported before and the english has been fine, and I plan on importing this one so I don't have to wait. I wish they still had the stickers though.

I ordered this last night, and I wasn't sure if I ordered when the stickers were still advertised, so I emailed them about it. Their response was

I am very sorry. From ths most updated information, we are not able to
provide the sticker due to license problem. Sorry for the inconvenience
caused.
Does that mean they violated copyright or something?

will the price still be the same after if its released? just wanna read the reviews first since im just a newbie DS owner who never played the first game.

so that means nobody is getting the stickers? But it sounds like the stickers aren't officially licensed.

sweet! i finally found the perfect b-day gift for my gf!!!
thanx OP! this will be her first import title.

any chance of the stickers coming back, they look kinda cool.

From what Judy said a few posts up it sounds like nobody will be getting the stickers.

I'll try to find the numbers right now, but I'm 99% positive PW DS did really well and suprassed GBA sales of the original. But you're right about the importing, there will never be enough importers of any game to make any difference stateside.

Edit: Whee, found the numbers. Japan only:

Gyakuten Saiban 1 - 177K
Gyakuten Saiban 2 - 251K
Gyakuten Saiban 3 - 206K

Most recent numbers I could find for the DS version was at 155k back in July, and I'm pretty sure it' still selling decently (It's still making the top 30 IIRC), so it's almost certainly at least met 177k if not passed it.

that's not a matter of poor english, they're just typographical errors. PW1 had at least several typos in the later parts of the game, so i'm not very surprised to see some in PW2. the english text looks perfectly fine in the other PW2 screenshots.

Yeah i got the email this morning. But i think im not gonna cancel my preorder its not a bad price for the game.
I'm on the fence ATM. Let us know how the translation is/
the translation is likely going to be the same. They have no reason to do 2 different translation.

I imported the first PW, but I'm going to wait for the NA release to buy this one so I can let Capcom know that Americans like PW too. In the mean time I might um borrow the import version.

I can't wait for the days of digital distribution so I won't have these problems.

Got mine today! Played about 5 minutes of it and haven't seen any weird translations so far. All you have to do is press the brown button on the screen when it boots up to switch to English mode. So far, so good as far as the translation goes!

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG I GOT IT TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am in the first court part of Case 2, and I have seen PERFECT grammar, and the translation/localization is flawless so far

I'll back that up, perfect so far. Why the hell does Payne sound like a woman when he objects?

*Cries*

I'm jealous. Have to wait till my January USA copy. Without any spoilers, how are the characters in II? Are they as likeable as in part I?
So is there any reason why they are waiting until AFTER the holiday season to release it here when it's already done?
Doesn't look like it. If you're planning on getting it anyway, I say go ahead and get it from Play-Asia. Supposedly mine shipped last Monday and I got it today. The only reason why I could possibly see someone waiting is if they want the box and manual in English, but I could care less about that. You'll probably end up paying the same amount in January so you might as well have it now.

the DS lineup is pretty loaded this holiday. Early next year there really isnt a must get game.

OMG Case 2 is awesome so far, it has been such a cool mystery so far, I'm starting the last day of court, wish me luck....

Actually, I'll finish it tomorrow, I'm tired :).

I'm waiting 'cause there are tons of great games (I'm not even talking about the PS3 and Wii launches) coming out, I pre-ordered for about $23 shipped from CDuniverse with Google Checkout, and I figure the more US copies Capcom sells the better our chances are at getting GS3 eventually. Woo!
