PlayStation 4 - General Discussion Thread

Which dock would you guys recommend? The Power A or a different one?
I have been using the Power A dock since launch with two controllers. Works perfectly for me. When one dies just click it down and click the other one up ready to go. Charges quickly and activates the light on the controller to let you know if it's still charging. Very easy to attach / detach as well unlike some of the docks that take a lot to get the controller lined up correctly.

I have the Power A as well. Only weird issue I've had is if I leave controllers sitting on it clicked up (not in the charging position) they seem to be dead when I got to use them after a couple days of not gaming.

I started just taking them off the charger once they're charged (just leave them clicked down until I get around to grabbing them) and storing them in a basket on a shelf on my coffee table that I use for controllers, remotes, 3D glasses etc. They stay charged that way. Not sure what the deal is with them draining in the up position on the dock.

So I recently received my DualShock 4 Decals from Flamingtoast.com. I'm actually impressed with the quality of them. At $4.50 I wasn't expecting them to be as nice as they actually are. I ordered the PS4 logo ones and I really like the way they look. Inside the package, it had the two I ordered and a bonus Batman one?

Also this week I received Analog stick cover from Amazon. They fit really nice and add great feel and look to the sticks. With a few people mentioning about their sticks starting to crack and peel already, I thought this might be a way to avoid that. I haven't had an issue with the sticks yet.

I just got the fps freek vortex for my ps4 controller and I love them. I just wish they came in sony blue or black instead of orange.

Those decals look pretty nice, may have to order a set myself.
FlamingToast makes amazing decals.

I tried using their site to make a custom image version but I couldn't figure it out, unless I found a copy site.

You have to email him at [email protected] for custom image decal requests and he'll get back to you. If you want the one I posted select custom logo and in the text field type "The Dude". This is according to his twitter page.

Just like with Tomb Raider - completely unnecessary
Nah, gives people a chance to play a great game they might not have played. A lot of Xbox People moved over to PS4 and didn't own a PS3 last gen so makes even more sense.

Its an Amazon game. I bought the LE and the DLC but I will buy this again. It looked Amazing on PS3 so cant wait to see what it looks like on PS4.

Yeah, I'll probably skip it, but the releases aren't pointless.  Lot's of people miss out on games, particularly late generation ones, so this is a great chance for them to play big games with nicer graphics.  And for people who loved them to play again with a visual upgrade.

Deader has the great point too that a lot of 360 only gamer switched to PS4 this go around (just read an article/survey about that on a gaming site a week or two ago), so doing some remasters of PS3 exclusives give them a chance to play those games with a new coat of paint. And is an easy cash grab for the publishers.

Just hope this isn't a trend and we see a ton of these for the next copy years. I would like to play new games, not remakes of games less then 5 years old.

However I would like to see the PS4 version on GTA5 but only because I still would like to play Online without switching systems.

I don't think it's mutually exclusive. I doubt the main developers are spending time remastering these games instead of working on new games. Don't a lot of remakes/HD ports get farmed out to other developers?

In any case, if they sell it's easy profit which allows the publishers to take more chances on new IPs, up budgets for new AAA games etc.

This about sums it up. I mean, I already have the PS3 version and it looks fine. How could I justify spending another $60 on something already have?
I meant more for getting the game to people who never played it and don't have PS3s. It's a quick port and can reach that new market of people who either never had PS3s or never got around to the game before selling/trading it to get a PS4.

Of course some diehards will buy it again, and that's easy money for them too.

I'm just getting sick of the trend where instead of new games or remakes people have been begging for (Half Life 3, Final Fantasy 7 remake, etc) are ignored by developers and their manpower goes into the constant HD rereleases. It's really annoying when games less than a year old are already being "optimized" for "Te True HD Experience"

I mean, give the fans what they want, not what they already have

Great news for anyone who hasn't played the game yet. One of the best last gen games. The rest of us can pick it up for $20 on BF.

To the folks complaining about this "new" trend... please stop. This is nothing new.  GOTY editions were the norm last gen and this release is  nothing more than a glorified GOTY edition as was Tomb Raider.

I never played it on PS3 so I will definitely be picking up the PS4 version once it comes out. I can understand people not wanting to buy it a second time but there are definitely people out there who will, myself included. Same thing for GTA 5 for me though. Never played the original since it came out so close to the next gen systems. Was waiting on a PS4 or PC announcement.

Also I finally got around to starting KZ:SF last night. I'm actually enjoying it a good bit more than the previous KZ titles. Not sure where all the complaints were coming from. It will definitely hold my space gaming itch until Destiny comes out.

My only regret with new systems is that it takes so long for RPGS to start coming out for them. I know the development time is much longer but I would still like to have some on the horizon for either the ONE or PS4. There is no telling when the Square games are actually going to come out the way they tend to be delayed.

I dont have any problems with this or GTA5 being ported to next gen, both games are instant classics. Tomb Raider was questionable though.

Exactly.

And again, it's not like developers are putting their top creative talent on giving games a quick graphics upgrade and thus delaying the release of new games. A lot get farmed out or just involve a side time of tech people who aren't working on the new games currently to do a quick update and make easy profit that will help fund more games.

Well, it is very different than the previous KZ games. So it makes sense that some who weren't big on those games would like it more, and some like me who really liked the previous ones (especially the 3) wouldn't like it since it plays so differently.

I thought it looked great, but missions were hit and miss and went on too long. And it was overly difficult in places with waves of bullet sponge enemies coming from multiple directions who kill you in a few shots. Made worse by not being able to adjust the difficulty other than at the start of a new game.

Just not my cup of tea at all. Great graphics though.

That could well be it. Running through on hard right now and so far it doesn't seem too difficult but I am only about half way through. I never could get into the first three games. Something always felt off in the controls to me. The aiming always felt very loose and gave me a hard time. I know a lot of people were able to do very well with them so I'm sure it was just something in my head. The controls in Shadow Fall feel much tighter with a lot less float. Don't know if that makes sense or not.

while I wont buy TLOU on PS4 (got my fill on PS3) I have no problem with it.  Some gamers will like it and some wont.

Now if Mass Effect trilogy gets a PS4 remaster...day one purchase.

Does anyone know how to see how much time you have left of PS+, without being on the system? I've been all over the SonyEntertainmentNetwork site, but can't seem to find the information.

Random impulse, traded in my PS3 Slim at EB Games today, got $85 after bonus, covered the taxes and then some.

One word I would use to describe the PS4 is smooth. Think of the PS3's OS as sandpaper and try licking it. Now think of the PS4's OS as ice cream and try licking it. World of difference  But seriously, it just runs so smooth, very snappy. And the games (demos so far) look pretty good. Definitely looking forward to the first racing title that appears.

Right now I have a few PS+ games like Dead Nation, Contrast and Don't Starve installed. Will try those this week. I also have the FIFA 14, and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes installed. Will give those a try sometime as well.

One thing that really impresses me (and disappoints at the same time) is the Dualshock 4. It feels infinitely better than the DS3. Light, responsive, and the sticks feel great. Not loose like the PS3. The triggers are improved, though still a bit small compared to the 360 and X1, but definitely an improvement over the PS3.

BUT, that lightbar on the back of the DS4 is really annoying and is killing the battery. I also noticed the controller didn't go into sleep-mode while watching a blu-ray. Wonder if that's by design or a bug?

I thought people in this thread were saying it's a LED light, so it's NOT taking much battery power at all. If it's anything like DS3, it's the rumble killing it.

Pretty sure you have to change the settings to make the controller auto-sleep, 5min or 10min or whichever.

For me, it is set to 10 minutes. While watching a blu-ray the lightbar stayed on the entire time apparently. I'll check the settings again but yeah, the blue light was on during blu-ray playback.

Which sucks because apparently there are no remotes for the blu-ray yet? I have the 2nd gen BD remote for the PS3 and was hoping that would work.

Another reason I keep my ps3 around. Just use my bluetooh remote which I love

I have mine set to either 5 or 10 minutes and the light goes off when the controller goes off... so I think it didn't save your settings. I just hook my controller up at night and I am usually good for how much I game in a day.

The controller is awesome however I did get the peeling on the left stick, but now its stopped and isn't too bad or bothersome for me.

There are a couple remotes coming out, but they are all third party. I'm hoping Sony comes out with a patch to let us use the PS3 remote, but it seems more likely they will want us to buy a new one from them. I don't care much either way, they just need to do it soon.

http://www.gamerheadlines.com/2014/04/bungie-planets-in-destiny-are-same-size-as-halo-reach/#ixzz2ys2P4hA5

Apparently each of the planets/moons in Destiny have as much land area as Halo Reach--and at least five worlds are known of so far.

I'm getting pretty stoked for the game. Just preordered on Amazon to get the beta access for later this summer.
Thats pretty awesome sounding. I am really thinking this game will be kinda like a borderlands game but with real graphics instead of the cartoon style of BL.

I love me some BL so really hope this turns out great. Had this thing preordered for like a year now.
