PlayStation 4 - General Discussion Thread

Has anyone played AC Unity recently? I have it but haven't played it, was hoping all the issues would be worked out before I jumped in.
I finished Dead Kings dlc when it came out for Unity and everything has been fine for me. The game has been running great since the first patch really.

So I have like 200gb left on my ps4 and am thinking of swapping out the harddrive.  Is it really impossible to backup your games first?  Also do you think that 1tb will be enough for the entire generation of ps+ stuff?  I have an xbox one as well so will probably be splitting my gaming time between the two so at most I'll probably have 5-6 retail games and my ps+ on it at a time.  I don't want to be swapping stuff in at out anytime in the future.

If by backing up you mean the downloads, then it's impossible. Once you pop that new hard drive in, it's formatted. The games download to the hard drive, not the system. I only went 1tb, I don't keep everything installed after I play it. After a month I still have around 400gb left. Guess it depends on how often you buy games and how often you delete them...

You'd be lucky if 1tb lasts you another year for PS+ offerings. I think we'll start seeing larger retail games offered up soon.

If you really want to just be done with it for it's lifespan I'd splurge for a 2tb drive.

If you get the 2tb HDD myself and a few other people on here got, you can get a 2TB for your PS4 and a 500GB external for your XB1 for $89. That's exactly what I did. I have about 949GB free on my HDD now.

For anyone here that has installed that drive into their PS4, has your system started to emit random beeps ? Mine has ever since installing the new drive. Had been researching information online and found some other mentions of the problems on a few other sites. Most seem to assume its due to the extra power requirements of the larger drive.

Just wondering if this happened to anyone else and if they found any solutions.

Never noticed any beeping on mine. Also it seems installs are faster with the new drive even though the speeds are the same.

Yeah i Think ill go with the seagate. Id be crazy to pass up an extra tb for $20 more. I already have a 1tb external on the x1 so i dont really need the additional 500gb from the internal hd but it might comebin handy

Yea the PS4 is my main system and really only use the XB1 for exclusives. So it was a no brainer for myself. I never upgraded my PS3 HDD and I use to hate having to delete things to make room for the new PS+ games. With that said, I'm glad to have the extra space now.

I upgraded in August and before I did upgrade I only have 80gb free. You should be able to back up all your saves with PS+. Also before you do update, make sure you have the correct update file on a USB drive, it will be the larger file. The other file is for people that have the OS on the HDD already.

Well I ordered the seagate. Can't really pass up an extra tb for $20.  If it crashes though it defeats the purpose of getting that big of a drive to begin with.  But, the only hd failure I've ever had was due to a hammer strike.

oooohhhhh yesssss!

"You can also use Spotify while playing games on PS4, enabling you to soundtrack your gaming sessions with your favorite songs in the background."

Link

Why not just put some headphones on and listen to it on your phone while gaming? Can't tell you how many hours I've wasted playing fifa while listening to podcasts
I've done that before but it you dont get the game sound, being able to listen to your own background music while playing FH2 would be so amazing.

I dont think so, they havent said anything about it being exclusive so Im hoping it will come to the X1 down the line.
It says its exclusive on the PS blog bruh.

"Hello everyone! I’m thrilled today to introduce a new music destination called PlayStation Music, with Spotify as the exclusive partner."

Pretty happy about Spotify coming to PS4 as Playstation Music. As someone that has used Spotify for work and the car for the past 18 months, I can't wait to use it with games.

Was just listening to podcast Beyond from last week, and Marty said he had just came back from Japan where he went to see a game at Studio Japan. Still no word on what the game is, but he said we would find out in February.

Maybe Spotify is the only contributor to PS Music?  I don't know, want to keep hope alive.

This is pretty big.

this weeks podcast beyond said Marty was interviewing someone about some big gaming news as well... hate when they drop hints about embargoed games

This is what I'm thinking. I'm reading it as them saying that Spotify is the sole provider for PlayStation Music. Not that Spotify itself is exclusive to PlayStation. If it was a console exclusive deal, I think it would be worded differently and they would have made a bigger deal about it instead of just mentioning the word "exclusive" once in an unclear way.

I read Backblaze checks hard drive reliability in an almost unrealistic fashion. They run hard drives 24/7. That's not really what back up external hard drives are for. Their stats aren't that concerning to me because the hard drives in my consoles don't get that kind of stress.

My 120 GB Xbox 360 hard drive lasted for seven years. It didn't stop working; I just finally upgraded to a 500 GB hard drive. Unless you're gaming over eight hours a day I don't think you have to worry about hard drives failing at the same rate they fail in PC use.

What's annoying is that it seems all these announcements are never made very clear.

but you can assume that if it is truly exclusive they would make a big deal of that and come out and say it... if they don't then i don't believe them and it isn't exclusive after all.

The exclusive partner line has me a little worried :( but I guess we'll have to wait and see. I'll still enjoy it on my ps4 but I would like it on my X1 also since thats my main.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. To me it sounds like what they mean to say is they're creating a new music service (PlayStation Music) and Spotify is going to be the exclusive partner of that service, not that Spotify is exclusively making an app for PlayStation devices.

Seems like PSN isnt the only network that has issues lately. Xbox Live is having issues again today
Yeah I dont recall having as many issues with XBL on the 360. PSN and XBL for the new gen has been a little rocky so far, more so for the PSN.
