Playstation 5 Re-stock Thread

Read the numbers of PS4's that sold in 2013 and it was like 6 million and at $399.99, fast forward to today and sony says they going to have double that (some say even 15 million) so with a $299.99 xbox series S, a $499.99 Xbox series X, and switches selling like crazy I think odds of being able to get a PS5 in store Nov and Dec are pretty good but I don't blame anyone who is getting a pre order for doing so because who knows. Gaming stuff is on fire right now hottest I've ever seen it.
It's because we are all trapped inside because of Corona virus, and we need an escape. A lot of people are pre-ordering online, because it's faster, safer, and more convienient than going into a store on launch day, and possibly getting very sick.

Plus scalpers are buying them up to flip them.

It was pretty hot years ago too. I remember taking months and waiting over night in line to get a 360 and a wii and that was a few months are they released.

New release consoles are not hard to get.  You either try or else you don't.  And this one is shaping up to have more units available then ever before, for Sony upon release.

I stood in line at Target on the day the PS4 launched. I remember because I was one of a handful of people who were actually waiting for the Zelda 3DS XL, which was coming out the same day. There was a line of around 20 people, maybe more, and they ran out of PS4s just before I got up to the electronics desk. So to say that you can easily get a console on launch day is a bit misleading.

It depends on interest, number of units and the amount of leg work you’re willing to put in. It might be easier this year because some folks might hesitate to wait in a line (doubt it though) and you can always stagger hitting up stores that open at 6 (Walmart), 8 (Target) and 10 (Best Buy). I would still assume that getting a disc PS5 will take a little hustle.

Yeah I agree - getting a console on launch day isn't "easy" for your every day person.  It may be "easy" for those of us on a forum dedicated to gaming and in a thread dedicated to getting preorders for PS5, but we're  a huge minority.  There is a reason consoles typically sell for a couple hundred over their retail price at launch - because they are not easy for people to get.

Don't forget there's probably a good amount of people that have multiple preorders to ensure they actually get one on day one. It's not that hard to return the extra if you can't find someone who missed out on getting a preorder to sell it to.

True but I’m dreading if I have to return my Walmart order, as they seem dead-set on treating their customers like criminals and doing that embarrassing thing where they open a brand new box and rifle through it for a few minutes before continuing to process the return.

Walmart's return policy went from being one of the best, to being "You want to return this? Screw you!" In the past few years.

Could be worse, I had a GameStop employee threaten to call the police because I said “really, your opening that? it’s factory sealed. Never had that done before /laugh/ you don’t trust me very much”. “I don’t have to do a return, would you rather I call the police and have you escorted out of my store?” “Are you joking?” “No, get out of my store”. Seriously, that was how the exchange went. Later found out she was lying when referring to herself as the store manager. I do generally have good experience with GameStop employees in store, so think that was just a fluke. Started doing more of their online pre-owned sales since, and had a bunch of returns from that which went fine. Reading your comment, just felt like posting my own. I doubt even Walmart could top that, was really embarrassing.

Antonline is a legit seller with no customer support. If you get what you order the first time, you're gold. If you order something from them and there's an issue, expect to get your credit card company involved.

I haven't been able to pre-order a PS5 since the BB click to check out crap happened. Not interested in paying for bundles when all I want is the PS5 itself. I'm just hoping I can catch one of the major retailers and pre-order without them shipping it out to me 2 weeks after launch.

Walmart opens all electronics regardless if it appears new. The contents must be verified to match what was to originally come with it and that serials match the product purchased. Does no one remember years back when there was a kid that got a DS with pornography on it Christmas morning?

Or the kid that got a bunch of rocks with chinese newspaper clippings?

The DS was used not new, and if the story behind it was true, then GameStop failed to properly clear it. Personally, it seems just as likely that the kid made up a lie when he got caught.

I didn’t look into the story about the IPad (iPhone?) replaced with rocks, but that kind of stuff does happen; I bought an HP printer cartridge “sealed” from target, and when I opened the box, the inner plastic bag was open, and the cartridge had been replaced with an empty one. I didn’t have any trouble exchanging it at Target, but I don’t know how I would prove I wasn’t the one who did the swap.

In my case the return was just a factory sealed PS4 game. Opening it was odd I thought, but not a big deal. Her bizarre escalation is what I think could put even the worst Walmart customer service to shame. But that’s beside the point, I get why the initial comment about dreading a Walmart return was made if it’s their store policy for returned electronics, I didn’t know that.

I never have had walmart or any other retailer open anything I have ever returned. Consoles or any other electronic or anything for that matter.

I knew several people who pretty much lived on returning items to walmart with rocks and other things inside while they sold the real contents on craigslist. My friend one time bought a "factory sealed" video card from best buy and inside was packs of baseball cards.

The reason walmart or other companys don't trust returns anymore is because people took advantage of it for years.

I thought I was the only who felt that way. I tried to return a Desktop PC during their holiday return period and they looked at me like I was crazy. I happened to return it right within the 14 day return window and they were still giving me trouble. The manager had to count the days on his hand to realize that I was within the 14 days. I won't ever do that again.

Yikes, so walmart's return period is only 14 days for the ps5?

Must be returned within 30 days with a receipt to obtain a refund or exchange:
• Most electronics, including but not limited to: drones, camcorders, digital cameras, digital music players, e-readers, tablets, laptops, PCs, televisions, portable video players, video game hardware, GPS units, audio systems, hoverboards, electric bicycles, electric scooters, and radio-controlled vehicles.

When I did my return, which was 2 years ago, their policy was 14 days.

Why is anyone complaining that stores are opening boxes?? You know they are all supposed to, right?

I bought a PS4 pro and a Mario 3ds from target. Both looked like new boxes but were obviously returns the second I opened them.

Be happy they open boxes when you return.

I wasn't complaining about them opening the box, like the other 2 posters mentioned, they treat you like a criminal when doing a return.

People have a weird fetish about breaking the seal on a box. It's like taking the box's virginity or something. Slowly peeling the tape with your teeth, as you imagine your cute little box-chan moaning "Open me Senpai, gently!"

Wow, that got unnecessarily... sexual.

It all depends who is working returns and what your Walmart's usual sales volume is like. I think managers at stores that are in financial trouble (usually the best places to find clearance deals because inventory just sits there) tend to give you the hardest time, while the sales associates who are actually in danger of losing their jobs if the store is underperforming will return items without a second glance because they don't care.

Also realize that the managers have seen all kinds of crazy attempted scams so they are typically more cautious in general.

If you can manage to not take it personally, it's not a big deal, but I hate feeling like a "perp" to the point that I generally won't buy from Walmart if there is any chance I'll need to return the item. When I do return Walmart items I always bring them to the nicest store in my area rather than the closest.

Strict return policies are why I stopped shopping at the local Best Buy, they never let anybody return anything, and when you do, they charge you a "restocking fee".

I once returned a defective desktop PC to Gamestop, didn't even use the store to return it. Returned it through customer service. They must have logged it on my account and I must have tripped some limit, because the Gamestop stores have been audibly cautious of me returning things ever since.

The only time I've had an issue with returns is at a mall location, and they definitely gave it a hard look over first. Same store notoriously had low "quality" assessments on phone trade ins and the manager once even tried to refuse to honor a price on their own website. I guess being at the mall means they are much more strict due to rent or something.

As far as Walmart, all it takes is a look at the average customer to see why they stopped being so lenient. I've been in line waiting to do a return and have seen some returns I considered VERY sketchy. This is the reason people always warned about doing sketchy no-receipt returns and such, because yes they are corporate but in the end it costs all of us because they turn the screws if they sense being taken advantage of on returns.

And when it comes to returning a hot new console, they are definitely going to be asking some questions and strictly adhering to the return period. They aren't dumb (well most of them).

People returning bricks inside of console boxes instead of the console is a very real thing. They were hit especially hard with these types of thieves last last gen.

Absolutely true. When the PS3 came out I was managing a video game shop at the time (a GameCrazy, holy crap that was forever ago). We actually had someone try that on my store, apparently mine was one of the only ones in my district that opened the damn boxes up to check on the returns. As soon as I told my employee to open the box the guy just turned and booked it.

Ah, memories.

I recall you posting this is the GS forum. Did you ever report her?

It’s like when bartending and asking someone for ID. They give it to you and you say “I’ll be right back, I have to show the manager. Policy.” And then they get angry and say forget it I don’t want a drink anymore. I see through you and your fake id, bro.

Or doing gutswaps. Most notably when Microsoft banned a ton of modded Xbox 360s from going online a couple years ago. Good times.

Might keep an extra order and see if someone wants one here near release.

Have amazon, Sony direct and bestbuy pick up.

Maybe $50 extra, don't want to flip them, but need incentive to keep them.

Charging CAGs $50 for a pre-order? Oh you saint.
Tbf, that's only a 10% mark-up which is far more reasonable than most postings on eBay.
Provided he didn't preorder like 10, I wouldn't judge him too harshly, especially if there is a massive shortage around the holiday.

Don't take this question as it being set in stone at all that I want to do such a deal but I was just wondering...

How would you do it? Just pay you the full amount of the system plus $50? Or...?

Pretty much. PS5 is $550 after taxes, so $600.

Would have to do this local,as don't want to ship it.

Likely cancel one order closer to release.

Cool. Doesn't sound like my cup of tea at all, but does make me think that CAGs will probably end up with extra preorders and some like you may go to the courtesy of selling at a lower price than Ebay. I'm not against that much, personally.

microsoft warning about lack of availability for the series x, after they told the whole world exactly when and where and what time to preorder it. if ps5 preorders were a mess, what will everyone say when all the xbox consoles are bought up by bots in less than a minute?

I actually expected it all along. Which is why I didn't tell anyone that there would probably be enough.
