So what was the one game that is worthy if not Astro? Sony putting their games on PC is a good thing, is does not detract from the console. I don't like the direction they have taken with most of their first party titles, but Concord being the biggest financial bomb in entertainment industry history compared to Astrobot winning game of the year should send a message that even the most pig headed executives pay attention to. I sold my regular PS5 for $420 a few months ago, turning around and converting that to a PS5 pro for the same price, yes please. Still plenty of great games you can play on old tech though.

Nioh collection for $20 is really good, I already owned it though.

So it turns out that this is only for physical, the Nioh Collection digital version is not on sale at all for Days of Play! Just goes to show you that digital games are artificially inflated because they have no incentive to lower the price.

Same thing with Gran Turismo 7. It's on sale physically but not during this days of play sale.

Monster Hunter Wilds, which I’ll probably build a PC for sooner or later. Like there’s just so little coming out that actually requires recent technology that’s remotely interesting to me anymore, most of what looks good to me still runs well on old systems.

I’m also not calling out Astro, I just have no special interest in 3D platformers, since their heyday was also in a period when 3D cameras were pretty bad and I got motion sickness super easy. Spyro 2 and Toy Story 2 for PS1 were what I had as a kid, and both made me want to puke. I’ve bought a few highly regarded ones in the past few years, but I haven’t really gotten around to playing them, so I don’t really feel an urge to add more to the backlog. I only mentioned it because somebody said something about it coming with the system.

EDIT: Oh, and I do recognize the irony of saying I don’t want to spend $420 to buy a machine for one game and saying I’ll build a computer for it later, but I use my computer a lot more than my consoles for a lot more than games, so it’s gonna wear out sooner or later. I’m talking about when I need to replace my current machine.

Anyone have the $100 AMEX deal and not planning to use? I have a 10% off coupon, would like to combo if it works. Hoping the dell rewards and card rebate would be enticing. Send me a message if you can help, thanks.

The best way to play Tetris Effect is—hands down—is on PSVR2. It looks absolutely stunning. And the haptics in the headset feel so satisfying
No, unfortunately. You have to put the disc in. I actually upgraded Tetris Effect the same way. Still have to burn a few calories getting up to put that damn disc in.
Just for clarification, you bought the PS4 digital copy after upgrading the disc copy?

I bought the $10 upgrade for my PS4 disc copy. I never purchased the full version on digital. I thought that was the question but now rereading, I misunderstood.

If you have actually purchased the full PS4 digital version, then you should be able to set rid of your disc.

I need to get it for my Index, but I've played VR Tetris Effect and it's awesome.

If you like reading old gaming magazines, Game Informer has their entire archive available to peruse if you have an account on their site, which they'll contact you when they're ready to take subs for new issues when they're ready to start that in the near future:

Since it looks to have her name on it, that's probably not a good thing (for her).

Given it's Goodwill, she could prob say it got mixed in with some donations/sowwy.

TBH... if I had something like that as some key member of Concord dev team, I would have kept it and proudly displayed it in my home... assuming I never had a job interview inside my own home, of course. I mean, it's a historic piece of gaming culture.

The worst movies of all time are still fun to watch, like trolls 2. Waterworld, the previous go to example of commercial failure in the entertainment industry started turning a profit long ago, and is just going to keep earning royalties from here. Disney and Marvel recent Bombs are still streaming fodder and will be watched by enough fans invested in the whole canon. Concord just boggles my mind how big a failure it is. Best they can get out of it is recycling some assets and a tax write off.

The next closest example for the magnitude of its failure is oddly enough, to me, the Disney Star Wars hotel. They spend millions creating a state of the art unique hotel concept, to destroy it and turn it into office space within a year and a half. They spent far longer designing and building it. They could cut back the extra experience stuff that was part of the hotel, that added to operational cost, and still just use the place as a hotel, but nope. Concord I think they killed out of embarrassment, it wouldn’t have cost much to keep it playable a bit more atleast, but the numbers would have been a running joke. The Star Wars hotel though, seems vindictive or petty in it being destroyed rather than repurposed. Corporations acting that way, so eager to hit the nuke button on their own creations, concerns me.

Concord has the worst character designs of any hero shooter. The reality is people want to play as "hot" characters. Overwatch will live forever because the character designs are the best in the industry.

Overwatch’s designs are getting a little long in the tooth, but Marvel Rivals isn’t really competing at the same level yet. Rivals has pretty strong design work, but the character models are rough and there are lots of little design decisions I don’t like that add up. Overall it's good, but OW is still stronger designwise.

Which is why it’s so dumb they made it first person. They had such strong designs, and you can’t even see your own character in action.

Random thought... has anyone added an nvme to their PS5 Pro or is the 2tb sufficient? I transferred my 2tb firecuda 530 from my launch to slim to now Pro. Everything I have so far fits on the nvme, so transfers between consoles are super easy.

Side note... anyone in need of one for their console? I have some credit I'm trading for or an extra nvme I have and never used.

I have a 2TB Samsung 980 Pro that was in my original model PS5 that's in my PS5 Pro now. 8xx GB was too small so I wanted to have enough space and got 2TB back then to be safe for the future. With the Pro's 2TB, I really don't feel like I NEED the additional 2TB but at the same time, what else am I gonna do with it? I don't really need it elsewhere and used storage has significantly less value so selling it would be a waste. It works fine and I won't have to worry about space for a while so I just kept it. PS5 still has 2-3 years left... and GTA6 will prob need like 200GB.

I have an 8tb NVME in mine lol. Went from 2 to 4 and then to 8.

Same question. I have gradually been moving up and need a 8TB nvme. Whats the lowest price anyone has seen for a good 8TB NVME?

Wow! What are you doing requiring that much space and specifically for nvme speeds? Digital only and a massive library?

I trust reputable brands like WD and use an 850x as a main drive on my mega PC. Lowest I’ve seen anything that size in around $700.

It doesn't matter if you are digital only or physical (or a bit of both like me), all PS5 (and PS4) games need to be installed to play them.

How so? Wouldn’t proper disc games have most files on disc? I just installed god of war valhalla, I’ll have to check the size on my nvme. I presumed all digital takes a ton of space and disc games save your nvme storage. I do know some disc games are fake and are just cd keys unfortunately.

PS4 and PS5 games do not play off of disc. Blu-ray drives are too slow. The first time you put a physical disc it the game gets installed from it to your systems storage while any updates are downloaded and installed at the same time.

Xbox One and Series X does the same thing.

The only current system that plays games off of physical media is the Switch and upcoming Switch 2.

I’m all digital

I got it when they first came out so I paid a stupid amount. But selling off the 4tb offset a bit of the cost.

They are cheaper now I think around 600ish on sale but don’t quote me on that. Check Amazon.

With my 4TB NVME drive, I could essentially download most every PS5 game I had on my account when I got it and that easily transfers to a new PS5 without needing to redownload stuff, which is a great convenience.

PS5 Pro out of stock at Dell now, so that deal is done. It’s a really nice system, but I still think MSRP is ridiculous. For up to $100 upgrade cost, I recommend it, but personally not sure it’s worth more than that. Unless the only games you are going to play are those that most benefit and money is not a concern. Otherwise, it’s just a little faster loading and better frame rates on some games, not that big a deal to miss, but still nice to have and know your getting the best console experience possible for the bigger releases over the next few years.

Quick question about primary accounts… my son was gifted a ps4 pro and PSVR from my buddy for his birthday. Heck of a gift for turning double digits. Can I make it the primary so my son can access my library and still be able to use the other ps4 if it is essentially “secondary?” He would still like to play games on that one too, but, again, my library.

I don't like hardware that is a constant reminder of something that we shouldn't be buying (or supporting). just like a modern Nvidia graphics card.

The PS5 Pro feels like something that should have been ~$500 msrp, considering it was four years later. It also feels like if you bought one now the PS6 which you should be buying instead is probably only ~2 yrs away.

If you can get it for ~$500 I think that is a good enough deal. Just gut feeling, I’m thinking 3-4 more years till PS6, that’s enough timeframe to get some good use out the pro. If you ever wanted it, I think this was the deal.

I was an adamant anti-Pro person. The $200 mark-up for 1.5x more SSD space, no disc drive, and 45% better rendering (thanks to better GPU+memory) but what's otherwise the same old 5 year-technology is a ridiculous rip-off when we KNOW the chip-fab process is better now vs in 2020 (no COVID-era supply chain issues & general improvement in the production tech should mean cheaper CPU, GPU, memory and storage).

But having had one for like... a month now and seeing FF7 Rebirth, SM2 and Forbidden West running "45%" better is honestly mind blowing. RTX is stupid and you won't notice it unless you're looking (granted it is pretty damn cool when you do look) but there's such a notable difference between a game running at a full 60 fps or even @ 40fps with slight better graphics, it's crazy. And all of this is based on my old 2019 regular LED UHD TV (obviously way better on the new OLED but that's nothing to do with the Pro).

I got mine for $600 + $70 for the disc drive, would I say it's worth it? Still no. I agree with the two above: this is a $500 system (and I'd argue that's WITH a disc drive). If you have standard/slim PS5 and have $500 burn, save that for when the PS5 Pro is $500 or towards a OLED if you don't have one.

I have no regrets upgrading to the Pro. Doubled my storage and a lot of games look/run noticeably better. Hoping Sony releases some cover plates for this thing.

I cannot fathom the logic behind why Sony is not making pro compatible plates. apparently they don’t like money, because there’s a large market asking for them to be made, and the console has almost been out for a year now.

Also same, no regrets. I don’t have enough time to play many games as is, and when I do I want the best experience. The internal storage doesn’t do anything for me personally though, as I have a faster nvme installed. Nothing is stored internally except for the OS and media gallery I believe.

Game Pass is the reason why games like Doom TDA has sold less than 1m copies. Great for gamers, shit for developers.
Nah, Doom has a very tight, niche market. It's a series I'd never consider buying with the one and only time I did was Doom 3 that I never finished. TDA was definitely more up my alley and I did finish it, but the damn puzzles are such a slog it really kills my enjoyment. I think asking full price for a game that can be otherwise be speedrun with minimal skill in a few hours is the real issue here.
