As long as it's just not the PS2 on PS4 games that we already have this could be good. It could also be long list of songs the purging the trilogy. I played GTA 3 maybe like 1 or 2 years ago on my PC and it was pretty average. I could tell at the time it would be cool, but the story is so weak and everything feels very vanilla. Nonetheless I'll probably just wait to get it when the whole thing goes down to $20 or such.
It was incredible to see an open world game like that in 2001.

As opposed to next-gen: PS6?
That's where GTA5 is heading.

Dunno about anyone else but i'm stoked to play Vice City again with updates (hoping that the updates are substantial).  Game was probably the best GTA they have made IMO.

Low-key concerned they'll remove the PS2 upscales from the store when the remasters release. Hope they go on deep discount at least one more time before then.

IMO, none of the GTA games have aged particularly well … they’re products of their time. San Andreas is probably the best as far as gameplay and variety, but they’re all mediocre by current open world standards.

Hopefully the rumors of GTA6 being vice city related are true, because the original was awesome for its time, but has not aged well at all, regardless of upgraded resolution and other ways to dress it up.

There was no irony to how bad this new movie looks. I do not get it either. Does Sony spend their whole movie budget on Spider-man and then have pennies left for everything else?
Spiderman and James Bond. They were behind "Breaking Bad" too so there is that.

Resident Evil is super corny. Why not get Robert Rodriguez to do it, I feel like he could have nailed it.

I agree but it's amazing how good GTA3 is given it's age and the technology limitations. People forget how groundbreaking that game was.

Totally agree. I loved VC back in the day but playing a game like that now is just painful.

As stated on the website:

To prepare for launch, we will begin removing existing versions of the classic titles from digital retailers next week.

fuck I'm getting old. I remember my friends buying this on release date and I went over to their apartment to play this after classes back when I was in college. I'm in for Vice City because the 80s theme is more my thing, but I'll still fire up 3 just to see if there's any nostalgia there for me.

It was literally the best party game you could have when you had friends over to see how much chaos you could cause with those codes to give you all of the weapons.

LOL, what were you waiting for the 30 other times they were on sale?

Lol they have been on sale so many fucking times since they came out.
Yeah, for only 50% off each time, making them $7.50 each or $17.50 for the trilogy. Did you forget where you are?

They haven't been on sale since July (3 months ago) when they used to be on sale like once a month. They clearly turned off the sales tap once they realized that discounting the titles could cut into the remasters' bottom line later.

Don't make excuses for Rockstar (or Take-Two, tbf) being greedy assholes, nobody's making them delist the games right this second (the remasters aren't even out yet) or ever.

Well, of course they would. They've been spending time and money creating a new version of the product. They kinda need to be able to sell it.

We know where we are. Everybody likes deals; that doesn't mean we all have completely nonsensical expectations.

I'd agree that doing anything other than what they've done here would be bad for both Rockstar and customers. People would be pissed if they just bought an inferior version of the game(s) for cheap and then a better version was announced. They'd also be less likely to buy the new game, which is the last thing Rockstar wants.

If you need to remove the original product as competition to sell an improved version, maybe your improvements aren't actually worth the cost. In fact, it's hilarious that you would feel threatened by what is more or less a PS2 game.

How much is it even gonna be? It's already $35 for the old trilogy.

Excuse me for "nonsensically" expecting a behemoth like Rockstar to be able to afford a going away discount on the legacy versions of some of their titles (which were overpriced in the first place). Maybe if Sony allowed disc BC like a certain other company and I could just pop disc copies in instead of them being gone forever...

Or they could just clearly label them in the store as Remastered (or HD) and PS2 Classic. I'm pretty sure your average customer can tell the difference when the word "Remastered" is in the title.

I understand why Rockstar is doing it, and I think that makes them greedy assholes. It is not a pro-consumer decision.

I swear, you guys are happy to (rightfully) tear Sony a new one for anti-consumer bs, but not Rockstar.

The games were already created almost two decades ago. They're "remastering" the product, which is developer talk for updating graphics, installing bug fixes, and completing just enough user stories to make people think it's worth buying again. It's conceptually no different from EA releasing a new Madden game every year from 2002-2017, where the only real changes were to graphics and rosters. But you kiddos love buying games you already played so you can play them again in higher definition, thereby supporting a business practice that discourages originality and hurts the industry. I'm sure people who buy these remasters also unironically criticize movie remakes.

Fundamentally, the avenue for improving a game will always exist. Graphics will always get better, new hardware will always facilitate faster processing. Consumers only have limited capital to invest in companies. The idiocy of justifying and purchasing remasters just encourages shitty-ass companies like Rockstar to take the safe road of always rehashing some shit people have already played, then hyping it as something "new."

GTA games fucking suck anyway. Same depraved bullshit taking itself too seriously every game. At least Saints Row is comedic.

GTA 3 and VC aren't BC on Xbox.  San Andreas is, but the version you download with the disc isn't the original version.

If the leaked prices are real, then the new GTA Trilogy is a full priced game, complete with the $10 next gen tax.

So this is Rockstar's version of Super Mario 3D All Stars. Hopefully these will be better than Nintendo's low effort emulation "remasters". That trilogy was full priced too. I'm curious to see if the Nintendo nut huggers who defended that collection will bash the GTA collection.

Got really salty in here all of a sudden..

I don't see what that has to do with what I said. Or how delisting games that have been on sale countless times over several years in response to a better version is greedy (if anything, having both versions available would be).

Not to play devil's advocate here, but is it a actually a better version? The more time goes on & the more times something gets re-release stuff we tend to see a downward spiral in most cases. This is especially when it comes to a game like GTA in what should I say, today's social climate.

Delisting a digital version when it wouldn't cost anyting to keep it up save the cut you have to pay when it actually sells a copy doesn't make sense. It isn't because they don't want to confuse the customer on which verison is the remastered one. If that were the case we wouldn't need a spread sheet when a game releases just to figure out which verison to get. They do it because they don't want you to buy the previous release due to for whatever reason be it monetary or another & want to bury it. Out of sight, out of mind, plain & simple.

If they were remakes with some more modern game design I would be all over the GTA re-releases, but remasters? C'mon. Slightly better textures and models with a few minor tweaks can't save three games from before 2005. The only thing GTA 3's design still has going for it is its soundtrack.

This is just an attempt to remonetize their back catalogue to make up for holes in the release pipeline.

But from the rumors that have been going around, they are more than remasters... The games are supposedly running in Unreal Engine 4 which is a far cry from the original Renderware engine they were built on. Nothing's really been shown and I'm curious what the games running in UE actually really means but I'm assuming it's more than just higher res textures. I'm assuming all new lighting engine potentially better physics engine. Im not really sure but I'm expecting more than just a basic remaster. But you're absolutely right in that the soundtrack is hugely important and hopefully untouched.

E. I do kinda want to buy the originally trilogy before it's delisting... But also don't want to spend $35 before I then go and buy the definitive edition for whatever price that'll cost. Oh decisions

The only part of GTAIII's soundtrack that's any good is the talk show channel Chatterbox. Maybe some of the other channels have a few good songs, but it's not the part of the game that is memorable.

I'm betting the games get more modern controls, especially for the camera and weapon aiming.

I just got a PS5 and I'm very confused on how to access the current downloads screen. It's probably right in plain sight, but I can't seem to find it. Anyone point me in the right direction?

Tap the PS button; it's in the quick menu that comes up when you do.
It's a little downward arrow in the middle of the quick menu. It disappears if there are no active downloads

So, should I change this to the GTA remaster thread and start up a new Playstation one?
I don't get why anyone cares when people talk about one subject (at least when it's actually relevant to the subject). If anyone else wants to talk about something else they're perfectly free to.
