PlayStation Plus - 3 Months for $18/1 Year for $50 - 8/24: New Games for September

So I played Age of Zombies. Probably wouldn't of bought this game in the first place, but trying it out through psn+, it's actually pretty fun and funny as hell. Also had some good music.

And I'm liking this random free stuff every week. New themes and avatars are nice and maybe a bonus psp mini here and there is always good.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/07/14/hulu-plus-streams-its-way-to-the-ps3/

So how do you get Hulu Plus? Well, starting today, a select group of PlayStation Plus subscribers can gain access to a preview version of Hulu Plus. All PlayStation Plus subscribers may download the free Hulu Plus application from the PlayStation Store and, within it, request an invitation to the exclusive preview. If you are accepted, you can access Hulu Plus for an additional $9.99 per month (the fee that Hulu is charging for all Hulu Plus subscribers) and start enjoying its library of television shows and movies from nearly 150 leading content companies streamed on demand in HD.

I thought the preview was supposed to be free, so one of the PS+ people should report back if they get in whether you need to pay right now or just whenever the preview is over.

I read it as the "preview" is just early access to the service to PSN+ users. It doesn't sound like anything about Hulu on PSN is free, except the application itself, which is free to download. Eventually, all PSN users will be able to subscribe to the service for the same price...although I really wish Sony (and Microsoft for that matter) would work out some kind of deal with Hulu to offer the service at a discounted rate for PSN+/premium service subscribers.

I'm not keen on Hulu right now. I already have a DVR and TV's schedule during the summer isn't exactly brimming with new shows I absolutely have to see via Hulu, so I have zero incentive to pay $10 for it.

If they had about 3 more shows with season pass- i'd cancel my cable. As is, cable is too good of a tool at distracting my wife while I play video games for me to get rid of it.

I read this from Engadget, it sorts implied that Hulu is free for PS+ subscribers.

The Sony Defense Force has reason to celebrate today, as the circle is now complete -- where Netflix HD spited PS3 for Xbox 360, today Hulu Plus has chosen the PlayStation for limited console exclusivity through the end of the year. Today, "a select group" of PlayStation Plus subscribers can download the Hulu Plus app and start watching immediately, while regular ol' paying members can ask nicely and wait patiently for the privilege of shelling out an additional $10 a month. Those who aren't paying $50 a year for PlayStation Plus aren't entirely out of luck, they'll just have to wait till the end of the preview period to get their Hulu on. Press release after the break, more info at the official PlayStation.Blog.
EDIT: only a handful of selected PS+ members get free Hulu...

Engadget is wrong, at least according the official PS blog article Frisky linked:

Yeah, the way I understand it is that Hulu Plus is a $10 subscription no matter if you have PS+ or not (you can use Hulu plus on your PC for example for $10 a month). Once the preview period is over, everyone will be able to download and use the Hulu plus application.

It's similar to Netflix streaming.
yeah thats a no for me. 9.99 a month for something you can see for free on a pc lol.
You can watch all 9 seasons of X-files for free on Hulu? Please let us know your secrets.

Clueless people are clueless

Downloaded it checked out a sample video decent quality with commercials . it has 18 sample videos and the rest unlocks with a paid hulu sub screw that. i pay 9 for netflix and get no commercials. it also had an invite thing but imnot gonna bother. Xmb is accessible while watching so you can quit. hopefully Netflix will have a ps3 app soon.

Yeah, let's see here.

Netflix with a disc or Hulu with minimal ads and it's shotty programming.

Yup, I'm pretty much happy using a disc.

If they would do some discount with + members, I might be interested. But netflix gives me my tv/movie fix.
Netflix has been available on PS3 since last year.
He means an app on the PS3 without the use of a disc. It's coming this fall.

Can't wait for that app since I don't mind the disc that much but it's still a nuisance..

I remember one of the letters in the Playstation magazine mentioned how some Best Buy employee told the customers that BD lasers worn out very quickly and such... The reply was something like "that's saying the sun is running out of light."

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/07/16/coming-tuesday-to-psn-kane-lynch-demo-for-ps3/

Kane & Lynch 2 demo will be available to PS+ people next week and is the first demo that you can get via the Automatic Download feature, which they are also detailing in this post. You can also get it in the PS+ section if you don't want to wait and it's 1.4 GB. Everybody else gets the following week.

IMPORTANT: To receive the automatic download, make sure to turn on the “Automatic Download” feature in the “Settings –> “System Settings” menu on the XMB. You can select a timeframe (2-hour interval) you want the PS3 system to check for available downloads.
Here are some things to know:
  • You must be an active PlayStation Plus subscriber to enjoy the convenience of automatic downloads (which also delivers firmware updates and game patches).
  • If you turn on the Automatic Download feature before Monday, July 19, expect to have the Kane & Lynch demo pushed to your system July 20th or 21st. during the timeframe you designate in your settings.
  • If you turn on the feature between July 20 – 27, you can expect to have the demo pushed to your system within 24 hours, during the timeframe you designate in your setting.
  • You’ll get the demo more quickly if your PS3 is not turned on during the timeframe you designate to check for updates, because the auto download feature of PlayStation Plus looks for content while your PS3 system is turned off.
  • The demo will also be published to the PlayStation Plus section of PlayStation Store during our weekly store publish on Tuesday 7/20. Again, this will be available only for PlayStation Plus members.
  • Here’s how it works. The Automatic Download feature:
    • turns on your PS3 system every 48 hours (during the timeframe you designate)
    • checks for content
    • downloads anything available to your PS3
    • shuts off your PS3 system
  • If your system is on during the timeframe you designate to check for updates, your PS3 will check for updates after it is turned off, during its next designated timeframe. This will likely be 24 – 48 hours later.
  • If you already have the demo on your system, PlayStation Plus will not push the demo to your system. (This is true even if you get the demo and then delete it.)
  • If you haven’t subscribed to PlayStation Plus, there is a 12-month package available for $49.99 and a 3-month package for $17.99. If you purchase the 12-month package now, you get a bonus three months for no additional charge.
  • Visit the PlayStation Plus section of PlayStation Store to see the great discounts and free games that are being offered in PS Plus.
Here’s some info on the demo:
Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is a raw and brutal crime shooter that redefines the way you experience gaming, delivering an unmatched sense of realism and intensity. The demo includes relentless action in single player and online multiplayer. Play as psychopath Lynch, wanted by the entire underworld and on the run in the backstreets and rooftops of Shanghai. And play Fragile Alliance, the acclaimed multiplayer heist game based on greed, betrayal & revenge, now extended with more risk and more rewards. Get in, steal the loot, and get out in 4 minutes, but trust no one.

You're right, but that's probably not how it's going to happen.

Hi guys I have a question hopefully you can answer. How often do the offerings change? I don't like the list of free games and discount they offer right now. Do they provide a list? Thanks!

Its almost August. It technically started the first week of july.

your question can be answered in the OP. the discounts and themes seem to be random but weekly . the psblog is the only list so far but i like the surprises in the store on tuesday than be spoiled

I finally bit on the PS+, for less than one good cell phone game a month I get great content and value, in my opinion. I really haven't played Wipeout since PS1 days, it looks great and is the same fun I remember and I am loving the use of your own music library. Now with PS+ I actually have something to look forward to every month, hmmm that kinda sounds a bit sad, ha.

Bit on plus today. So far well worth it in my eyes. I didn't have much of the "free" content, plus I bit on half price Super Stardust and MKII. Those two alone saved me $10, since they were titles I wanted to buy anyway.

So if I haven't taken advantage of the Infamous demo before next week It will no longer be available correct? In its place will be the Kane and Lynch 2 demo.............that is how the free hour works right?

Uh. What? The kanye and lynch 2 demo is nothing but an early release. It has nothing to do with replacing the hour long trial of infamous.

mtxbass.....thanks. The original post announcing the Kane and Lynch 2 demo didn't specify. The sentence following the announcement of the demo for PSN+ members mentions that others will have it the following week, that should have clued me into the fact that it was an early release demo, but I had the Infamous Demo on my mind (as I haven't played it yet) and let that steer me to that conclusion. Thanks for clearing that up.

Heh. Np. I need to download that infamous trial.

So far, I've save 20 bucks or so from the dicounted game purchases. Not bad for the first month for me. If anyone gets PSN Plus, download all the free stuff regardless if you use them or not. Might as well link all the free content to your account when it's there.

Anyone knows if the background download gets updates for Disc based games? Or is it just for PSN games? And if it does for Disc, does it identify the games to patch by saved data or game data (i.e. game install, trophy data)?

I think it's just PSN games. I turned on LBP the other morning to play the Marvel levels and I had to install an update.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

I think you are right, so far the only auto update I have received was for fat princess.
I think you are right, so far the only auto update I have received was for fat princess.
How do you know when you've recieved it? Does it notify you or were you just aware that there was an update?

I had deleted my Red Dead Redemption data to do the Solomon's Folly EXP Grind and yesterday when I turned on my PS3 I got a message saying that Red Dead had been updated. I fired it up and sure enough it was up to date 1.02. So, it's not just for PSN games.
maybe I don't have mine set-up right then.. I haven't had any notices yet...
one day when i turned my ps3 on, there was a message waiting for me saying that fat princess got updated. I have mine scheduled for sometime during the day while at work. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

mines scheduled for 4am. I tried to set it up on my 2nd ps3, and it told me it couldn't run both at the same time. I'm assuming that when I did that, it deactivated it on both systems.
