Playstation Vita WiFi $249.99 - 3G/WiFi $299.99 - February 22, 2012 Release
Nothing like spending $249 before 7:30 am... this may be an expensive day
Good news is they won't charge you until it ships!!

I ordered one of each. I figure once they announce the AT&T price model I will cancel which ever one I don't want then.

For those of you with Android Phones...at least until they crack down further on tethering (which is already beginning), phones can be rooted to tether your connection to the portable. No reason why it shouldn't work, unless you have an older phone that only supports ad-hoc connections...some devices struggle with those.

Verizon's started cracking down on tethering, but there's a complaint into the FCC recently, and I'm hoping for a ruling in favor of data being used however the customer wants.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I ordered a Wi-Fi model. I wasn't planning on picking one up but the $250 price point really caught me off guard. Plus, I do love me some Uncharted.

Just skeptic. Battery Life seems like it will be low. How will the back touch pad work? Will I accidently press a button I didn't mean to press? Don't get me wrong Uncharted looks nice and LBP looks alot of fun with the touch controls but no way I go in at launch, especially with the way the PSPGo flopped.

There is no way this will require a contract at a higher price, it will be month to month. I have nothing to base this on lol but there is no way they will get away with requiring a contract. No subsidized price = no contract required

I'm betting it will be no contract like the ipad and they will treat it as they do tablets. They will probably put it prepaid style plans you sign up for with your credit card through the device 250 MBs for 15 dollars and 2 GBs for 25. You can get them added to your postpaid account and there is no contract. The only difference is with the post paid account its 10 dollars per gig over instead of the prepaid one reupping you for another 25 dollar 2 gig plan..

yeah, I would not get the 3G at all..I mean for 5+ years we've all managed just fine with WiFi. Plus with 1gb game downloads, that is going to be hella slow. I wouldn't get 3G unless the service was free, and since its not, well...

What an unbelievable price at 250. For what it does, it put my 3ds to shame. A super nerd like myself was looking at 300, 350 starting point, but Sony came through and delievered on the price.I guess Sony learned their lesson from the disaster price point of pspgo. As for the games, there are few that I'm looking forward too like uncharted.

But still, a lot of things hasnt been announced yet such as the price for the games, battery life, launch date, launch lineup. But for first impression here in the states, it made a huge one. First day purchase for me.

And I also hope the thing is region-free. Because there are few certain games I want to play from japan.

I did the same. One of each until I know more about the 3G price.

If they could match the current psp3000's battery life of 3-4 hrs on highest brightness setting. 6-8 hrs on lowest brightness setting will be fine. Because who really play portable that long.

I got a kick out it when kaz announced their data Carrier. When he has AT&T, then the audience almost wanted to break out a boo on kaz, but he turned it around when the price of the model. Boos turned to cheers. Kudos to Sony on the price

I think those numbers would be fine too, the battery life on my 3DS/PSP doesn't bother me. I only play 1-2 hour or so at most during lunch or while waiting for class to start. Most of my portable gaming is done at home lol, with my handhelds plugged in.

I pre-ordered one of each also, I might shy away from the 3G... I already have a data plan on my ipad, and I'm not sure I want to shell out another $15-25/month if they are going the same path as the ipad.

thinking about the 3G version. But I'm going to wait and see what game will be coming to it. If there's a decent Resident Evil game on it I'm sold.
Did you really need to post this? Not to be a dick, but you know this isn't a deal and it's barely even worth mentioning anyway.
Shut the fuck up I'm so sick of uppity people screaming not a deal in this place. Also just because you aren't interested in something doesn't mean it's hardly worth mentioning.

I pre-ordered 2 wifi's for my son and I. I love my psp, even though there isn't much for it. I think the PSP is a great system for RPG's and I love the uncharted series, which makes the vita a no brainer.

I think I'll wait on this a while...I just sold my PSP 2000 and rarely use my DSIXL, but it's definitely cool for people who use their portable devices. I'd rather keep my credit for Project Cafe and games, even if I have to wait a few more months to get my hands on it.

Hardware looks nice but doesnt pull me in as a must buy like the original psp did back at launch.. guess the tech back then just stood out more.

Now im more interested in cell phone gaming and seeing thad advance further...
I still dont understand all the ATT hate... would everyone have cheered if they said Verizon?
Me neither, I have them and they have been solid so far (over 2 years now).
I imagine the battery life is going to be terribad on this thing.
One thing that will help is the fact that it's using an OLED screen, which is pretty efficient in terms of power consumption. Plus the fact that this device won't have to waste power on spinning up a UMD or use a laser to read the data will also help.

ATT has really poor service in some areas of the country... I would include Southern Wisconsin on that list. As such, they have a bad reputation. I have Verizon and I can get 3G service almost all the time except occasionally if I'm way out in the boonies.

Anyone think that this will be hard to get or oos during the week or month of release. So if that's the case, ill just buy the 3g and sell it.. Then wait a month or two to buy again. Could use the cash for textbooks.

It may or may not be. If you look at the 3DS, there was plenty of fucking stock at launch at every store so your taking a chance.

Not going to preorder yet. I will buy one down the line, but unless there is a I need it at launch game, I will wait.

Nintendo purposely had enough available for everyone that wanted one, this was their business model.

Sony has never been one to have enough available at launch but who knows, fook you anyway reseller

I don't recall PSPs being difficult to find at launch. Plus Vita will also have to face a lot more competition for consumer interest with all the smartphones around. Speculating on portable gaming hardware seems like a risky bet.

While this could be the case again for Sony, I sincerely doubt it for two reasons.

One, Sony may have learned from the launch of the 3DS that pricing was the main cause of everyone not rushing to buy one (even if Zelda was a launch title). People just aren't easily ready to throw around $250 anymore. So, being that the two systems launch at the same price, they may not produce as many systems at launch as Nintendo did.

Second, and probably the most likely scenario that they will sell out, is due to launching in the holidays, compared to Nintendo who launched near the beginning of the year. Naturally, it becomes the "gadget to have" if nothing else launches with it this holiday.

Differences is Vita is out in the Holiday were the demand will be a lot higher

Put in an order for both just in case. I'm leaning towards Wifi only, but if the 3G has a decent monthly sub, I'll pick that one up.

Its $15 for 200MB and $25 for 2GB a month, they arent going to change it for PSV owners, not even Apple could change this

Would they even bother with a 200MB plan for a gaming system?

Color me shocked. I was expecting a $350 starting point, and I was definately expecting them to come at us with a few different models with different internal storage options.

Picked up the 3G. I've already got a contract with ATT, so if the 3G service isn't too much then I may add it to my family plan.

If the online games in question are turn-based, then 200 MB is fine. I really don't think you're going to be playing Call of Duty online over 3G. You probably aren't going to download big games over 3G either. At least I sure wouldn't.

I do think it's a little funny that people are touting the $250 price point (WiFi) as a triumph. That's still a lot for a dedicated gaming handheld. It was a lot for the 3DS and it's still a lot for the Vita. Which doesn't mean I'm not considering it.

Didn't they just showcase five launch titles late last week? I'm on my phone, so I can't dig up the links, but I know Uncharted is one of the launch titles.

Also, I don't think it's digital distribution only, because there are two slots for cards on the top of the console (one of them presumably for a flash memory card).

This brings up a good point. What is going to be the point of paying for the 3G model if it's not going to be unlimited? I mean even with 2 gigs, I am sure the vita games will be over that. Plus any online game will just kill your cap. Even if the device does netflix, that will bring you over the cap easily. The only thing I can see not killing the cap is web browsing and well, who doesn't own a web capable phone nowadays.
