Not sure if theres a post on here about this but the hardcover guide is avail for much much cheaper than the paper guide.

Each guide (paper or hardcover) comes with a pokemon cleaning cloth as well for your 3ds! Guide is also 400+ pages.

I know pokemon is one of those games I need a guide desperately for, especially after the mainline story so I can look for item locations/pokemon locations.

If any of you guys want to add me so we could search each others safaris for pokemon message me and Ill send you my friend code. Trying to get a variety of pokemon.

On topic mine still says arriving Tuesday.

Sorry, I didn't see that post. The guide tells you which Pokemon can be found in each location, but there isn't an index of the Pokemon and where to find them. So like if you were looking for Eevee, you'd have to page through all of the areas to find which location it can be found. Does that make sense? It's early and I'm not 100% awake yet.
Your statement makes sense, but the concept you're presenting to me does not. At least this time the negative hate from community reviews is logical.

Mine updated; to Monday, the 21st. 1 day difference. As for the missing Pokedex, I actually spoke with an editor over at Prima directly (we follow each other on Twitter), and when I asked about the Pokedex, he said he would bring it up to the guy actually writing the book. At that point the guide was still "in-development" so a Pokedex could still possibly be added. I also made it clear that A LOT of people buy the book just for the Pokedex, the walkthrough is an after-thought. Either way he said he would get my input in, so I thanked him. Guess my advice didn't get through to the right people or they decided the guide was complete without it. I tried guys :/

I dunno.  My Best Buy had it.  Used a $5 reward coupon so it wasn't cheap but it was $14 bucks and in my hand.

It has some good tables for Breeding.  I wish it had an index.  I could use that to thumb through to find missing pokedex (the entire reason I bought it was so I didn't have to go to Serebii to check on evolutions... so it doesn't solve my issue)

Here's a couple photos of the guide to give you a little better idea what you're getting.  It is indeed the size of a hard cover novel.  Very nice as a whole though the lack of a Pokedex makes me glad I didn't pay any more for it.  Sorry for the slightly blurry pics of the inside stuff, was having trouble holding the book open and getting shots without huge shadows in them.

Example of how he was trying to explain how it shows where to find Pokemon, this is Route 3:

Mine shipped today for arrival on Monday. Hilarious thing is my Disgaea guide still says "now shipping". For two days. What the hell is going on at Prima?

Gorgeous guide, is it essentially a walkthrough and that's it?
Yeah. Basically the guide lists basics of the game like battles, trading, (not really in depth but more so a tutorial on it), and a walkthrough. It has pokemon locations for everywhere (thank god) and item locations.

That's about it. It's not the best but it beats the hell out of trying to google pokemon locations.

Also it comes with a screen cleaner. I don't know why but it's a nice freebee. I would only recommend the guide if you want a walkthrough or pokemon/item locations. If your looking for anything else, then don't buy it.

I checked my order status and I'm getting it next week. I'm fine with that but it just sucks it doesn't come with a pokedex since not even serebii has all the information for pokemon moves and all that.

Oh btw if any would like to trade Fc code for the friend safari or something DM.

I got mine in the mail today. It is "nice" and it was cheap(ish) through Amazon. I can understand why they don't have a Pokedex, but it is unfortunate. I imagine they were creating this for the person on the go so they can pull this out instead of a giant guide. It makes sense for handheld games. If they added a Pokedex w/ 718 pokemon, this thing would probably another 100+ pages and I'm imagining like 6 pokemon per page. It is well constructed, however I don't see the dust jacket surviving since it just sits over the cover with nothing holding it on.

It's unfortunate that even though there is a guide to where the pokemon are, not all of them even have pictures. It seems like they focus on 2-3 random ones to show a picture and then have the other 8-10 in a tiny table showing likelihood of seeing one (the latter detail being very nice btw). For those of use that haven't played every generation (or even ANYTHING since Red / Blue), it would be nice to target ones I'm hopeful for. If they came out with a pocket sized pokedex (maybe 100-150 pages or even a FREE app!!!), it would be a great addition to this hard back book. I remember getting the Red / Blue guide 15 years ago and flipping through it till the pages started to fall apart. Granted, there were only 151 back then and a LOT less features inside the game so I can understand why there was that much detail. It is pretty inconvenient to have to use serebii, etc... just to get stats / pictures especially considering how CLUNKY those sites are.

It's crazy to me that after 15 years and 6 generations of a game, companies (including nintendo) wouldn't have their act together. Oh yes... Nintendo needs to release an HD Pokemon Console RPG... I don't understand why they've kept it handheld only. Do they think it's their killer app?

Seriously! Some of these sites have crazy traffic and Geocities design/usability.

It's very intentional and they've talked many times over the year how they feel it's best suited to portable and being a social game with the battles and trading. Some of that's changed now that the internet is around but I can still understand their reasoning.

You should've PM Amazon for the $12 price. Still waiting for my Bestbuy to have it in stock then I'll PM.

I think it makes sense, since longer more grind heavy RPG's do better on the go. Like a lot of people prefer Disgaea on the go, because they can just pick it up and play. Thats how I feel about Pokemon, so I think they have the right idea.

Honestly, I didn't KNOW about the PM until I got home (it seemed very YMMV when I left for work). I'm debating if the gas+PM is worth the 40 minutes it'd take to get a BB PM sorted out.

Really?

Go in there, ask them to match (unlike before, it's in stock), buy the guide, walk over to customer service, pull out your other receipt, return your new guide with the new receipt.

I think at this point I'm just spoiled by the "HD Era". If Pokemon was on the Vita in HD, I think I would be more ok with it. I got a Wii U and it's the happiest I've been with a Nintendo machine since N64. Two big factors are that it's HD and that you can choose which controller to play with in most games (and the Pro U is awesome). I think I'll be more excited in 3-4 years when Nintendo catches up with the handheld market graphics. Truth be told I really like Pokemon Y, but I can't use the 3D anyway (get headaches from it) and would absolutely kill for a bigger HD screen. Zelda Windwaker HD is the perfect example for the point I'm trying to make. People are going ape over it mainly because it looks so good.

But I don't want to get too far off topic. On a positive note, I found "Dex-ter" on the Android market and it makes a great companion for this guide. I'm sure they probably have an iOS equivalent as well.

How is that the perfect example? You're comparing a game that was already good looking on consoles and was made better looking (the style let itself to it) to a portable game going HD. At least compare games like Dreamy Theater, not WindWaker HD.

I was referring more to the fact that Nintendo is starting to get into the HD craze. This is really the first time they've tested the value of HD by recreating Windwaker. I understand that the "general public" probably doesn't care as much about it, I just think it's funny how low of a priority they make it. I almost think they do it on purpose solely for the reason that everyone else is doing it and they really want to be different. :p

Don't get me wrong, I think Nintendo makes great software. Nothing against them. It was more my hope and dream that an HD version of Pokemon would come to consoles. I guess I'll have to wait for the "Nintendo HD-S" that is coming out in 2016.

This might be the first time we got an actual "HD" game, but Nintendo has dabbled in remakes and they've always been popular. The first 2 generations of Pokemon, rumors of the third being remade, LoZ OoT 3D, Starfox 64 3D, even going as far back as the GBA (perhaps even before this...) had "remakes" / enhanced ports.

I think WindWaker HD was a quick port, so they did it to boost first party titles on the Wii U. I mean, it was reported to have only took 6 months to develop... which means we might just see Nintendo spam these on the Wii U.

I see your point. Funny thing is, I'd probably buy them since I haven't really played many Nintendo games (regularly) since N64. I had never played Windwaker before getting the LOZ: WW LE Wii U

Got the guide from Amazon, finally. Not a huge fan of novel-size guides as they're kinda hard to flip through. Damn shipping messed up the dust jacket quite a bit :/

As for the content, I think it's well worth $12. Maps are the only thing I was really looking for, and everything is there. I don't really care if they release a pokedex later on or not, serebii is being updated relatively fast. Well worth the money, even as it stands imo. Maybe not MSRP but at $12 I can't complain.

With some bing and promo credit I had this guide combined with a copy of hyrule hystoria, to actually open, came to 8 bucks with free shipping! :) Hyrule historia alone would have been worth the $50 sticker price, but $8 is just amazimg!

Received mine yesterday, two days before I should have...and almost a week before the original shipping date.

It's definitely pretty, though I have little use for the slip cover, map, or screen cleaners.  The guide itself is a pain to flip through but I'm sure after I keep it held open upside down for a couple days straight...it'll relent.

So, I went back and got the guide.  With BB's $5 "free" coupon in my email, it cost me $7 bucks.  The guy at customer service was apologizing that it was taking so long to PM it.  In all I seriously only spent a whopping 10 minutes in the store to get my $8 back.

I like the guide.  The hard cover does make it a bit "stiff" but so far a LOT of info has been useful.  I used the breeding tables last night in the book to figure out how to breed my first couple of Pokes.  Between that and Gamefaqs (I have to learn about IVs and EVs because this is all new to me... my last real pokemon (red/blue/yellow) never had that stuff)

Someone quoted Prima as saying they WEREN'T doing a second guide/pokedex.  Dunno if that'll hold though.  It's catching a TON of flak for the lack of Dex.

a review on amazon references a prima email stating a vol 2 was coming in jan w nat dex but not full dex

Now hopefully Amazon will sell this for $12 as well.  Was a little disappointed at first that it's paperback but makes more sense since you're going to be flipping through this more often and hardcovers aren't as conducive to that.

Postgame adventure guide, eh? Well, that will be like 3 pages... haha

I know just got to the post game as well and its nothing like b2/w2 was :(. I did enjoy using this guide to see what pokemon were in each area. Also the spine for this guide holds together very well, no real creasing and I have had it split open for the past few days.

Lol how the hell are they getting that many pages out of the post game info?

Unless the Pokedex section is gonna be decked out with almost all the info (TM's, Moves, Egg Moves, etc).

It's gotta be either a ridiculously in depth pokedex, or they are just not making very good use of their page real-estate. lol

Sounds like Pokemon Z will have a lot more to do in the post game.

Though I really doubt theres going to be another region, either new or from a previous game. People have been starting rumors about being able to travel to Hoenn since long before XY were even released.

I think DLC could be cool if it was handled right. As in whole new areas/regions and pokemon that arent available otherwise, not Legendary events and easier places to catch stuff.

I seriously doubt we'd see another game before this time next year

Wait, you guys seriously haven't heard the speculation?!?

http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/55572/features/9-unsolved-mysteries-of-pokemon-x-and-y/

It's actually some exciting stuff. Some of it I noticed while playing, some of it I missed.
I half wonder if it's not just the usual left over stuff that's always in games of this size/complexity when they start having to scale back and cut things.

Boy they would just be shifting all sorts of paradigms with this generation if they went that far.

looks like this is no longer for sale from amazon, sold out at newegg

I see bestbuy and gamestop still have it though..

anyone think amazon will restock it at their low price or did they stop making them because of the new version of the guide they might be releasing?

I'm not really a fan of the size of this one. Normally with a hardcover guide I can use my phone to weigh down one side so it'll lay flat. The Pokemon one because the pages are so small you basically have to break the spine to get it to lay flat unless you want to hold it open the whole time you're playing.
