No spyware. I've ran Spybot, Adaware, PestPatrol and searched through HiJack This. I'm running out of ideas. It's totally random. If there's spyware, it's not being detected. I get crap like this popping up:

http://www.888.com/default.htm?lang=en&sr=690904&flag=1101

This happened after a questionable EXE was ran on my computer (which I noticed and took care of immediately). I've heard about editing a DLL file for redirections with a notepad, i'd like to explore that option.. and others! Help!

I had this problem with a site called urllogic.com. It had been an issue for about 6 months nothing that I used would recognize the problem. Only just recently when I updated my anti virus programs (microsoft, spydoctor, Mcaffe) did one of the programs finally recognize the bug and fix it

also... for teh tough spyware, I recommend 'hi-jack this!' but only use it if you know what you're doing.

the Pop-up guys are getting tricky, and they are starting to show up in Mozilla. but don't worry they are going to be addressing this in the next update

hold the windows key and hit R then type in MSCONFIG

then go to the last tab, thatll show you all the stuff that runs when youre computer boots.

Run all the stuff you dont recognize throught google, if its bad, nuke it.

Or instead you could simply unplug your computer and wander off and become a hermit in the woods. I think that's what kayden did, I haven't seen him in a looooong time.:D

You should just wonder off into the wood and shaq-fu a bear.. like that guy from supertroopers... only you'd use a real bear... that I hope would maul you.

No, it's not spyware, the popup makers are just finding ways around firefox now, it's a pain in the ass but atleast it's still blocking 95-98% of the pop-ups I get.

Nah, this is internal, I get popups from CAG and Xanga.. that's a red flag that it's an internal popup thing.. msconfig does nothing but disable things at startup.. and I mentioned in the OP that I ran hijackthis.. starting to think of deleting and reinstalling firefox.. I'm pretty good at getting spyware via a combination of pestpatrol, adaware, spybot, hijackthis and bazooka (and manually removing it from the registry) but this little bastard has passed every single test.. it's like a new breed of popup..

Here? crap if that's the one I remember it's like Skunk stink, a bitch to get rid of. I'd definatly re-install if I were you. Though I'm really suprised HJT didn't catch it.

A heads up though that even though it's probably not what Scorch is dealing with, it is true about them getting popup's through in Firefox. Be cautious.

Glad to know if not the only one getting pop ups when going to Wrestlezone.com, actually they are pop under....WTF is that!

i get them at drudgereport.com and random sites, it makes me sad, id say i get about the same amount as i did with IE & google toolbar, which makes me sad

Try to block the javascripts and other obnoxious things. Don't block them all, some are useful. But javascripts can call ads and move your windows...

Just found this thread. Same stuff has been happening for a while to me too with Firefox. It was happening before a lot more with IE, but I cleaned up a lot of it with the A/V and the usual array of spyware/adware detectors all the of the time to the point that it just got to irritating. Then I moved over to Firefox and it was actually blocking most of it. Once in a while I'd get a stray pop-up but almost nothing. Now I've been getting quite a few pop-ups, but whenever I do the scans of my computer, they come blank. I've tried checking the registry, but I can't figure out what it is also.

I just turn off javascript. No pop-ups then. Most sites really don't need javascript functions and when I run into one that does I just turn javascript on and refresh the page.

That will not catch all spyware, as more intelligent spyware do not use the MS-startup to get themselves executed.

A more thorough method is to ctl+alt+del and bring up the task manager. Go to the "processes" tabs and google each process that you have running. Then go into Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services and set every process that you identified as not necessary to "disabled".

Then check your process list again. If you see a process reappearing despite your disabling it, then you've found a problem.

Although, you'll still have have to figure out how to fix it...

Some of those processes can be incomprehensible to the layperson though, but over all I think if you're just getting pop ups from two or 3 sites it's survivable... you can also set firefox to ignore certain commands from java script like resizing windows.

question to all Firefox users: Did any of you DL the Adblock and Flashblock extensions? Firefox blocked a lot of popups before I got the extensions (about 90% or so) and when i got the extensions, I think I've only gotten one popup in the last 4 months and my javascript is still turned on (although Java is not). I think a lot of popup makers are starting to use Flash to bypass the normal javascript ads since they're running through flash and it's using actionscript hence the backup extension, Flashblock.

One or two gets through these days, still better then I.E by far. Adblock and Flashblock sounds like something I shoudl look into .
Ditch Firefox and get the latest version of Opera web browser. No more pop-up problems.
Can you clarify why? What makes Opera so special in that it is able to block out ads that Firefox can't?

Thanks jaykrue for the suggestion about Flashblock... makes surfing flash-heavy websites like Newgrounds and GameSpot a bit easier! :)

hehe, sure no prob!
As far as I can tell I auto download the extensions.
I wish I could but I'm too paranoid of spyware/trojans/viruses to let something without my knowing. I try and scrutinize everything I DL and throw a buncha scans (Adaware, Spybot, HJT, AVG online) before I pass it to my quarantine zone and even then I still scan it through Mcaffee before I get comfortable. Sounds like a lot of time and effort but I learned the hard way that it's a lot less time doing that than having to reinstall your OS after getting malware that slows your processes and/or screws up drivers.
