Whats the cheapest I can get a scale for? I need to be able to weigh my packages at home, I figure I will make up the difference eventually in gas and free shipping confirmation by just doing this all at home. The cheapest I've found is a nice digital one at Sams Club for 50. I was hoping to spend a little more around 30 bucks.

cool, I'll check the post office on Monday.

I also just realized this is request video game deals thread. I hope it's not a big deal. A mod can move this to the right place if this shouldn't be here.

i bought one at wal-mart that only goes up to 3 lbs...but it cost $19.99

works great for me because i only send something that weighs more than 3 lbs maybe 1 out of every 25 packages
I have a digital one (about the size of gba sp closed up) that weighs up to 7 lbs (runs on a 9v battery) I'd sell for $15 shipped...
thats pretty small, seems like a package wouldn't even fit on it.

I bought mine on eBay. Only cost me around $20 and it weighs up to 36 LBS in .1 oz increments. I have had it for about a year without any problem and a lifetime warrenty was included. The brand is Digiweigh.

Stamps.com has a deal right now where they give you a free scale, $80 in postage, and free supplies for trying out a 4 week trial. As far as I can tell, the only catch is that they start auto charging your account if you don't cancel by the end of the period.

I'm pretty sure they make you return the scale if you cancel within that free trial period

Radioshack has their USB digital scale on clearance for 19.99. I bought one, and it works great. It goes in .2 ounce increments up to 10 lbs. There is no display on the scale, so you have to use the included program, which brings up a fake scale on your monitor, showing the weight. You can also use it to interface directly into the various shipping company websites, although I've never used it for that feature before.

All my packages fit fine on it... only thing that sucks about it is it only does grams and oz... but the PO's weight system automatically calculates lbs from total oz... or you can just do some math :)

Stay far away from stamps.com... they don't give you anything for free except some postage (the full $80 is only avaliable if you become a subscriber) and the scale you only get after becoming a paying subscriber, plus they make it super difficult to cancel and are quick to charge your CC.

I bought the 10# one from the USPS. They'll ship it to you for about $45 if your local branch doesn't have any. I actually didn't realize you could buy them at branches and didn't bother asking at mine :wall:

Somebody mentioned getting a pretty nice one off eBay in another thread for $35 shipped.

I got the Stamps.com scale for free back before they became so strict. It only weighed up to 5lbs and look pretty cheap. I still use it today, and just use a digital bathroom scale for my larger packages, it only weighs to the .5 lb but thats fine since i use FedEX ground for larger packages and they charge by the pound anyway.

theres so many on ebay but I don't know whats a decent buy. I know nothing about scales or what the hell they are talking about in their descriptions.

I 2nd this one. I have this one I used to work at radioshack and I bought it the first day it came in and still have it and it works great. I use it heavy around the holidays and then lightly through the month. Good deal IMO it goes up to 15lbs (I think)

That was me. Purchased an Ultraship off eBay from a guy nammed "old will knott" for about 35 bucks shipped. It weighs up to 55 pounds, goes in .5 oz increments after 2 lbs., and has a detachable faceplate (so that when you put a big box on it and it overshadows the front faceplate, you can move it out from under it to see the LCD display without problem). I can do other measurements as well (such as grams). Really nice, actually. I've already sent off a package with it to fellow CAG schultzed (using wubb's great guide) without issue.

Really the big draw is the detachable faceplate. The Digiweigh one someone mentioned in this thread sounded good as well (especially with .1 oz increments).

Same here, it was cheap (free) and does the job OK. I'm thinking about looking into the one that Strell raves about, as well as the Digiweigh, since .1 oz increments is a nice touch.

I just got my scale in the mail and I don't think it works right. I weighed some stuff at the post office and then weighed it again at home and it seems like everything is .2 oz's less on my scale. It's supposed to have accuracy to the .1 oz

It might be the PO, our local one had a scale that would weigh everything heavy. Once the lady would reset it, it was fine, for awhile. Find something light, weigh it with your scale then take it to an office store and "test" one of their scales.

weigh something you know the weight of. Then that should take care of it for you. Cause you will know the difference of acutal weight and how much its off. Then just do the math everytime you use it.

Just adjust the scale so when there's nothing on it, its at 0. I put some tissue paper over mine to keep the things I'm weighing clean, so I have to adjust it.

I found out the post office scale has to be wrong. Because I weighed sticks of butter and they all came to right weight.

Hey takingchase how has that scale been to you? I'm thinking about getting a scale too. I am looking at the one you got and the USPS 10lb scale for $39.99 right now.

If you guys have a Sam's Club membership they have a really really good one there for $49.99 or $59.99, can't remember which price.

But it weighs packages a lot heavier than 10 lbs. It is kind of an industrial one but small enough for home use. That might be more than you want to spend though.

It works great, I highly reccomend it. I've shipped tons of packages out without a problem. I know with most things on ebay you have to be carefull but honestly I haven't had a problem with this yet. The flip top to stand up bigger envelopes is a great feature and I love that it has the postage chart right under the flip top so I can see how much things are going to cost and what to put the price of shipping as on ebay when I sell stuff.

I saw one at Walmart today for $20 by Royal, it seemed cool because it had a function where you could push a button if the package was too large and covered the screen, so that when you removed it you would still know the weight. I'm guessing it's just mediocre since no one else here even bothers to use one so cheap?

i purchased the exact same scale off of ebay a month or two ago, and i would also recommend it. the scale does what it's supposed to for a pretty good price.
