Price speculation?

Does anyone speculate on how the price of a game will go before new copies goes out of print? I do that, but I want to see if others do it too, perhaps to help me and other people here out.

wtf are you talking about?

Your flaming requires me to ask you 2 questions.

1) Am I obligated to introduce myself?
2) Am I advertising anything that constitutes spamming?

Collecting video games is mostly about price speculation. So if you are not a collector, you can leave in ignorance.

BTW, not all games get reprint, other Lunar SSSC wouldn't at least 60 bucks on eBay for the whole thing!

What I meant was, who here has a list of games they want to buy and how long before they wait to buy because they wait for price drops. I try to see if Nippon Ichi games go down in price, but they almost never do.....

What..? The only one that never did was Disgaea, but it got reprinted and still stayed at $50.

La Pucelle, Phantom Brave, Makai Kingdom all saw substantial price drops.

And $60 for Lunar SSSC on Ebay... isn't that a price drop? I thought that big box was $70 or $80 when it released.

Actually, I do this all the time. If it's something I can't have on Day 1, I'll decide a price I would be willing to pay for it and wait for the inevitable drop.

A couple of recent examples: Suikoden Tactics and Lost in Blue. For ST, I decided that $30 was the price I was willing to pay and picked one up this week at EB. I'm sure it will probably drop to $20 or lower but I didn't want to take that chance with this game. For Lost In Blue, I finally found one at a Best Buy and used their $10 off coupon to get it for $20 on Tuesday. I didn't want to pay more than $20 for it and was very happy with getting it at that price.

Then there are some games that I'll wait for to drop to $10 or $5 (as many have been known to do). But with those, there is a greater risk of not getting them since the $5 price point is very attractive to gamers and non-gamers alike. Well, except if you're looking for Turok: Evolution

You're right, I was refering to the more recent ones, Magna Carta, Atelier Iris. Makai Kingdom well, it's still around 40 bucks, that's not a real substancial drop. See, the last part about Lunar SSSC, I can find it for 60 bucks used. New ones costs 80+ dollars.

Look man, the reprint issue I refer to is not just recent games in general, I mean across the board, like PS1, Genesis, Sega Saturn games.

FINALLY! Someone who understand what the heck I was talking about.

I knew what you were saying, but it'd really help if you were to edit your original post and rewrite it in coherant English.

And yeah, it's stupid not to speculate on prices... that's what CAG's for.

the question is rather the store will have copies when there is a price drop. Digital Devil Saga dropped to $10 but most people couldnt find any. Atelier Iris and Makai Kingdom dropped to $30 and $20 at gamecrazy. Those are likely as low as it will get and would be a good time to get them.

since you are too lazy to think i might as well give you my predition for atlus/nis game
Ground rule to follow
1. If any game gets over $100 it is very likely to get a reprint. The only problem is that it might not include any bonus gift/disc
2. There is no correct prediction. Disagea's price remains high, but even the limited edition of phantom brave is only about $20. Digital Devil Saga 1 remains at a high price, but DDS2 already drops to $40 at a few place.
Other tips
1. Try to find out how many copies of a game a store have. If there is 1 or 2 you might want to buy it. If there is like 20, you might want to want.

Manga Carta - got a second shippment, but should get one price drop before it is gone. Probably at gamecrazy
Makai Kingdom - sold worst than Phantom Brave, and is proably going to be harder to find than PB, but not as hard as Disagea.
Atelier Iris - the second game is out in a few months so the demand will go up.

upcoming
Steambot Chronicles / metal saga - I could see those games get at least one drop.
Yggdra Union - hard to say. Might as well get it near launch.
Disgaea 2 - also hard to say. Could either stay at $50 for a while or drop to $20 in a year.
Generation of Chaos - also hard to say.
