I just started PoP2 for PS2 tonight, I wanted to know a few things that I couldn't find online.

Which versions are the originals and which are ports?

Which versions do you all own/recommend?

If I understand your question, they were all released at the same time for all the consoles and developed for each one individually. None are ports I don't believe. I own the Xbox versions for all of them for no real reason really, I guess the graphics are a little cleaner on the Xbox. The Gamecube versions (the Sands of Time anyway) have some connectivity features with the GBA game (extra levels on the GBA game I believe if you find a switch in the Gamecube game)

The most important thing to know about them is how much worse the second one is compared to the other 2. The first game had charm, tact, great level design, varied action, an interesting character with quality voice acting, et cetera. Besides the really crappy final boss, it was close to perfect.

The second game trashed all those elements and replaced them with tits, ass, witless profanity, generic "badass" voice acting, stale hack-and-slash action, lame level design, severe glitches, tits, ass, nü-metal, and other things that reek of a game made for fratboys and other such doofballs. The part in the intro section of the game where they actually put a break in the action so they could cut in close and show the Prince saying "You bitch!" almost made me quit playing the game on the spot. But I pressed on... only to quit later, when I started to get really sick of fight scenes that were stupider than Gauntlet and chase scenes where the music and effects would inexplicably cut out after 3 seconds. I sold that garbage before finishing it and trashed the file off my memory card.

A few months later, after that bad taste was finally washed out of my system, I bought the third game based on positive press and was overjoyed to find that every good element of the first game had returned. And my thought was basically "apology accepted, Ubisoft."

This is a great post. :applause:

I've been wondering this a lot lately, with games like Ultimate Spiderman and Hulk: UD to be specific. I want to have the best version, but for a lot of games Gamespot doesn't list which one is best, so I'm not sure if I should just always assume the Xbox is best or what (Project Snowblind and San Andreas are supposedly better on PS2)

I put off playing it until now due to the difference.

I picked up Sands of Time back in the summer of '04 and was amazed by the charm and level designs. I saw all the previews warning of a dark and gritty adventure for PoP2 and I got worried, but I loved the first game so much I had to buy it. I've been afraid to open it and face disappointment.

I hated that "bitch" part vehemently also.

Maybe I'll go grab Two Thrones for 14.99 and just skip to the finale?

(As for versions I buy, I go for PS2 mainly because of the controller)

Ive been playing through the trilogy this summer. I dont even know how I managed to finish #2. Throughout the game i found myself just pointing out design flaws and glitches, just wondering what some of the designers were thinking.
Im on 3 now and it is wayyy better than two thank god.

Gamespot's review's usually tell you (towards the end) which is better. If your an IGN Insider, they do head-to-head features, too.
For the first one, the Xbox had an extra unlockable game.
For the second one, it had some glitches, but I understand the GC version had the least (if not any).
For the third one, IDK. I haven't played/owned it yet.

The second one on the GC had just as many glitches as the other versions. Mostly, sound cutting out, voices not coming through, and the character glitch.

I played in on the GC and didn't come across any.

Lucky, I guess. My cut scenes were REALLY bad. I didn't get the character glitch until the second play through.

Even though I loved all three games, the second one came the closest to "work."

I only remember one glitch where the game locked up in the 2nd one. Other than that random time, I didn't have any problems on the Xbox version.

Yeah, having to constantly backtrack made the 2nd game a guessing game (for me).

I skipped the second, but have been considering the third. So the question is, how lost would one be if he missed the middle act?

The third game is not terrible, but compared to the other ones it's pretty shitty. I would recommend just freshening up on the story from 2 on wikipedia, then if you really really want more PoP after the third game, go back and play the second.
