Really? I remember hearing minorities were largely against prop 8 on the grounds of discrimination. I may have heard wrong. Thanks for the updates, BigT.. website doesn't want to load for me. :\ I'm getting worried.
When Ohio had this as a ballot issue 4 years ago, Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth (major involvement in the civil rights movement w/ MLK) came out against gay marriage. Discrimination or not, black and latino populations tend to be far, far more religious than you think, and will vote based on that.
The thing about that vote in 2004? In Cincinnati, there were two ballot issues next to each other. One was gay marriage; one was a city measure that would change the law to make homosexuality a categorical status protected by equal opportunity employment laws (i.e., up until this vote in 2004, it was legal and ok to be fired for being a homo in Cincinnati). They were worded backwards, however, so that a "Yes/No" vote or "No/Yes" vote were necessary to show philosophical consistency.
Gay marriage failed, but the city measure passed by a large margin, making it illegal to fire for sexual orientation. I'm *still* convinced that the people of the city were just too stupid to read, or too lazy to read, and passed the protected employment measure by accident.
