I've been reading this site for a while but this is my first post, so I apologize for any errors in format.

Meijer's very recently updated their website so you can now purchase on the web from them. While looking around this morning, I found that under Playstation 3 hardware, they only list the 20g HHD for only $399.99! So if you're looking for one of these, good luck before they run out.
Uhhhhh...that was retail price...and stuff
No, it retailed at $499, and is now sold out almost everywhere.

The 20GB version guarantees you get full backwards compatibility via hardware and not software emulation. It saves you $100 over the 60GB and $200 over the 80GB.

Keep in mind buyers that Sony may very well be releaseing a new 40 GIG PS3 next week at TGS for this $399 price point.

Could just be a rumor but probably worth waiting 4 more days to be sure.

Why bother getting this version? I mean that's why they are cheaper because they are on clearance. Everyone else in sotres around here dumped them for same price. A $100 more for a 60gb is a better deal, since you WILL need that extra space eventually. And end up spending more on a new bigger drive down the line.

Why does everyone say you'll eventually NEED the extra space and moreover, if you're a cheapass like me who likes to tinker with his game systems, you would simply use one of the drives Sony says you can and upgrade the damned thing yourself.

I just hope Gamestop and the few other places I've seen these online still don't sell out of them prior to me getting the cash up to grab one, since this is the PERFECT model for me.

Oh and btw, Gamestop has them on their site @ $449.00

If you signed up for the sony card with the $150 off $299 promo, you could end up getting this for $250.

A few people already verified that the deal works if you buy something $299+ at any store and not just sony style.

That price is for a refurbished 60g...not a new 20g

Actually, that is their list price for a new 20g on their website.
I also forgot to mention that, for me at least, there website is still a little shaky with links and such. I can barely go anywhere without it breaking on me. So give it a day or two(or wait to see if the announce a 40g) and hopefully the site will be fully up and running.

I'd prefer the 20gb though because of the BC issue, since I may get rid of my PS2 if I get a PS3, though people remarked that PS2 games look like ass when played on the PS2.

Hopefully that feature will have been fixed by a firmware update by then.

Of course, I think many of those said about it looking bad on a hdtv, which wouldn't be a problem for me, since I'd be playing on an SDTV and probably will be until the PS4 comes out or prices drop to super ultra dirt cheap.

Also keep in mind that the 60 GB models also have the EE chip in it, so BC shouldn't be an issue for those either.

HDD size shouldn't matter anyway. Get a 20GB and replace that with a hell of a lot more than 80GB. I'd only jump on this deal because of the emotion engine chip.

True, but they're $499 and have stuff I doubt I'd use in them(WiFi, memory card ports, etc), so for $399, this is a better deal for me.

Now that the website is up and running smoothly, I made it to the description page for the "20g" system that's being offered, but upon reading the description it mentions:
"The 20GB PlayStation 3 system also comes standard with exclusive features including built-in 802.11 b/g wireless internet and a MemoryStick slot, an SD slot and a CompactFlash memory slot."

So who knows if that's a typo or if you might get lucky and sent a 60.

I got my 60gb for $399 in-store a little while back during one of the Meijer Credit Card Holders Awesome Good Fun Time Day-A-Thon! 20% off of the better model(since it has all the bells and whistles). They didn't have th 20GB model, or I might have gotten one of those instead, since I was trying to get it as cheap as possible. Great store. Maybe I can buy my groceries online and pick them up at the store! ;) Anyway, $400 is a great price for a decent system.

I wasn't even talking to you...but the guy who said he saw a new 20g on the GAMESTOP site for $449...which is also why I quoted the poster I was responding to.

Try to keep up.

The 20 gig has HDMI as well, right? I don't care about the card reader, or even the Wi-Fi (as I can find a wireless adapter cheap)...but I do want my HDMI.

Yes it does have an HDMI output slot. You'll just need to buy a cable.

Notebook hard drives aren't cheap, either. Theyre usually 150% of the price of a desktop HD.
Notebook hard drives aren't cheap, either. Theyre usually 150% of the price of a desktop HD.
When you're starting out at 20GB, you could easily go to 80GB or 100GB for less than $100.

Someone had a 160GB drive for $80 posted on SD & FW last week, so they're certainly horrible.

I know when I drop a drive in my PS3, it'll be 4x - 5x the size of what's currently in there, a 60GB. And if you do replace the drive, a 5400RPM drive is recommended, as that's what is in there. 7200RPM drives are usable, though due to power concerns, not recommended.
